Why Do Shia Hate Hafsa (Ra)?

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

My opinion of any of the wives/companions of the Prophet Muhammad(pbuhahp), is a logical conclusion of all the facts considering , what’s stated in the Qur’an and attributed to them in the state sponsored books of traditions.

Could you elaborate a little please. Your answer seems very vague

What is your position and why(provide supporting evidence from Quran and Traditions)- conclude with logical/rational points.

I'm the one that asked the question so why you reversing it on me?

Why do you hold hafsa (ra) with a negative view?

(bismillah)

(salam)
Allah(swt) says:

(watch up to 1:42)

Who are these two wives?  'Aisha and 'Umar tell us in Sahih al-Bukhari:

Volume 6, Book 60, Number 434 : Narrated by 'Aisha

Allah

's Apostle used to drink honey in the house of Zainab, the daughter of Jahsh, and would stay there with her. So Hafsa and I agreed secretly that, if he come to either of us, she would say to him. "It seems you have eaten Maghafir (a kind of bad-smelling resin), for I smell in you the smell of Maghafir," (We did so) and he replied. "No, but I was drinking honey in the house of Zainab, the daughter of Jahsh, and I shall never take it again. I have taken an oath as to that, and you should not tell anybody about it."

Volume 6, Book 60, Number 435 : Narrated by Ibn Abbas

For the whole year I had the desire to ask 'Umar bin Al-Khattab regarding the explanation of a Verse (in Surat Al-Tahrim) but I could not ask him because I respected him very much. When he went to perform the Hajj, I too went along with him. On our return, while we were still on the way home. 'Umar went aside to answer the call of nature by the Arak trees. I waited till he finished and then I proceeded with him and asked him. "O chief of the Believers! Who were the two wives of the Prophet who aided one another against him?" He said, "They were Hafsa and 'Aisha." Then I said to him, "By
Allah
, I wanted to ask you about this a year ago, but I could not do so owing to my respect for you." 'Umar said, "Do not refrain from asking me. If you think that I have knowledge (about a certain matter), ask me; and if I know (something about it), I will tell you." Then Umar added, "By
Allah
, in the Pre-lslamic Period of Ignorance we did not pay attention to women until
Allah
revealed regarding them what He revealed regarding them and assigned for them what He has assigned. Once while I was thinking over a certain matter, my wife said, "I recommend that you do so-and-so." I said to her, "What have you got to do with the is matter? Why do you poke your nose in a matter which I want to see fulfilled.?" She said, How strange you are, O son of Al-Khattab! You don't want to be argued with whereas your daughter, Hafsa surely, argues with
Allah
's Apostle so much that he remains angry for a full day!" 'Umar then reported; how he at once put on his outer garment and went to Hafsa and said to her, "O my daughter! Do you argue with
Allah
's Apostle so that he remains angry the whole day?" H. afsa said, "By
Allah
, we argue with him." 'Umar said, "Know that I warn you of
Allah
's punishment and the anger of
Allah
's Apostle . . . O my daughter! Don't be betrayed by the one who is proud of her beauty because of the love of
Allah
's Apostle for her (i.e. 'Aisha)." 'Umar addled, "Then I went out to Um Salama's house who was one of my relatives, and I talked to her. She said, O son of Al-Khattab! It is rather astonishing that you interfere in everything; you even want to interfere between
Allah
's Apostle and his wives!' By
Allah
, by her talk she influenced me so much that I lost some of my anger. I left her (and went home). At that time I had a friend from the Ansar who used to bring news (from the Prophet) in case of my absence, and I used to bring him the news if he was absent. In those days we were afraid of one of the kings of Ghassan tribe. We heard that he intended to move and attack us, so fear filled our hearts because of that. (One day) my Ansari friend unexpectedly knocked at my door, and said, "Open Open!' I said, 'Has the king of Ghassan come?' He said, 'No, but something worse;
Allah
's Apostle has isolated himself from his wives.' I said, 'Let the nose of 'Aisha and Hafsa be stuck to dust (i.e. humiliated)!' Then I put on my clothes and went to
Allah
's Apostle's residence, and behold, he was staying in an upper room of his to which he ascended by a ladder, and a black slave of
Allah
's Apostle was (sitting) on the first step. I said to him, 'Say (to the Prophet ) 'Umar bin Al-Khattab is here.' Then the Prophet admitted me and I narrated the story to
Allah
's Apostle. When I reached the story of Um Salama,
Allah
's Apostle smiled while he was lying on a mat made of palm tree leaves with nothing between him and the mat. Underneath his head there was a leather pillow stuffed with palm fibres, and leaves of a saut tree were piled at his feet, and above his head hung a few water skins. On seeing the marks of the mat imprinted on his side, I wept. He said.' 'Why are you weeping?' I replied, "O
Allah
's Apostle! Caesar and Khosrau are leading the life (i.e. Luxurious life) while you,
Allah
's Apostle though you are, is living in destitute". The Prophet then replied. 'Won't you be satisfied that they enjoy this world and we the Hereafter?' "

Volume 6, Book 60, Number 436 : Narrated by Ibn Abbas

I intended to ask 'Umar so I said, "Who were those two ladies who tried to back each other against the Prophet?" I hardly finished my speech when he said, They were 'Aisha and Hafsa."

Volume 6, Book 60, Number 437 : Narrated by Ibn Abbas

I intended to ask 'Umar about those two ladies who back each other against '
Allah
's Apostle . For one year I was seeking the opportunity to ask this question, but in vain, until once when I accompanied him for Hajj. While we were in Zahran, 'Umar went to answer the call of nature and told me to follow him with some water for ablution. So I followed him with a container of water and started pouring water for him. I found it a good opportunity to ask him, so I said, "O chief of the Believers! Who were those two ladies who had backed each other (against the Prophet)?" Before I could complete my question, he replied, "They were 'Aisha and Hafsa."

Volume 6, Book 60, Number 438 : Narrated by 'Umar

The wives of the Prophet out of their jealousy, backed each other against the Prophet, so I said to them, "It may be, if he divorced you all, that
Allah
will give him, instead of you wives better than you." So this Verse was revealed. (66.5)

And Allah(swt) knows best

Simple rules of engagement. State you position, in light of Qur'an and Traditions, to justify your claims.Your original question, implies you love we hate. Tell us why you love.

There are many wives of the Prophet(pbuhahp) , what's so special about the ones you try to glorify?

What about the others, what opinion you have of them, do you hold them in high regard, if not why not?

Have you done justice to all the wives? what criteria you use to elevate one over the other?

I asked the opening question so you can't counter me with a question..that's simple rules of engagement brother. Once you present your argument we can move forward

You can move forward with out me. I need to have clear objectives, you can't work with these guidelines.

Dear brothers and sisters, As Salam O Alaikum Wa Rahmat Allah!
This topic concerning Aisha and Hafsa from the Shia view..

I would like to share my story as well.. I myself, had confusion on this topic, mostly because of the verse in the Quran about the wives of the Prophet(SAW) being 'Ummul Momineen'(Mother of the Believers)

The Prophet is more worthy of the believers than themselves, and his wives are [in the position of] their mothers. And those of [blood] relationship are more entitled [to inheritance] in the decree of Allah than the [other] believers and the emigrants, except that you may do to your close associates a kindness [through bequest]. That was in the Book inscribed.(Surah 33:Verse 6)

But then, I went to study this topic in complete depth, and found all my answers concerning this topic :)

When a person comes to the meaning of 'Ummul Momineen' , 'Ummul Momineen' means 'Mother of the Believers'. Meaning.. that the wives of the Prophet(SAW) are to the Believers(Muslims) like their Mother. Means they can not marry after the Prophet.

Here's a hadith from Aisha herself:

One day one woman addressed Ayesha as ‘Ummul Momineen’.

Upon this Ayesha became enraged and declared – I am not your mother, but (only) of your men.

Celebrated Sunni scholar Muhyiddin Ibne Arabi – popular as Ibne Arabi asserts – This hadis is authentic (Sahih).
Other references include:
1. Qurtubbi under Tafsir of verse 6 of Surah al-Ahzaab (Surah 33: Verse 6)
2. Imam Baihaqi in his Sunnan (from الشعبيّ)
3. Tabaqaat Ibne Sa’d (from another chain than الشعبيّ)
4. Tafsir Mazhari (Urdu Edition, under Tafsir of Surah 33, Verse 6) by Qazi Sanaullah Panipati – the highly regarded scholar from the Indian sub-continent

This clears the debate of Ummul Momineen.

Now when you come to see why the Shia send Lanah( withdrawal of mercy) on these 2(Aisha and Hafsa):

Here's an incident narrated in Sahih al Bukhari:

After the daily Asr prayer, Muhammad would visit each of his wives' apartments to inquire about their well-being. Muhammad was just in the amount of time he spent with them and attention he gave to them.[48] Once, Muhammad's fifth wife, Zaynab bint Jahsh, received some honey from a relative which Muhammad took a particular liking to. As a result, every time Zaynab offered some of this honey to him he would spend a longer time in her apartment. This did not sit well with Aisha and Hafsa bint Umar.

Hafsa and I decided that when the Prophet entered upon either of us, she would say, "I smell in you the bad smell of Maghafir (a bad smelling raisin). Have you eaten Maghafir?" When he entered upon one of us, she said that to him. He replied (to her), "No, but I have drunk honey in the house of Zainab bint Jahsh, and I will never drink it again."..."But I have drunk honey." Hisham said: It also meant his saying, "I will not drink anymore, and I have taken an oath, so do not inform anybody of that'

We too can say why Wisdom007 hate Hafsa bcoz i don't consider you from Ahle Sunnat and you are asking Question to Ahle Tashio that indicate you are neither from Ahle Tashio. So who are u ? Only 3 Groups i know who are saying themself in Ummat of Rasool Allah. Ahle Sunnat, Ahle Tashio and Khariji .. so u belongs to 3rd Group ?

Why you have no details of Hafsa ? Who send you to ask this question ?

Brother I don't think you're understanding what's going on here. I asked the question and now it's your job to answer. If you hate hafsa (ra) then why? If you don't hate hafsa then the question isn't for you.

Don't make yourself puzzle. Tell do you know hafsa ? if not who are you to ask such question ? its logical if you know Hafsa then you can ask Why someone hate, but as per your discussion you too don't know. So the matter of Hate reverse on you , Why are you hating her why not you have information related to her ? That means you hate more that is why you don't even care to know about her.

Dont play with that ball which bounce and come back to you.

I think you're being rather childish about this tbh. Regardless of what I know or don't know about hafsa (ra) that's irrelevant. I'm the one that's asking people who hold her in negative view why they hold her in negative view for my own personal knowledge. For example if someone asks why do Libyans hate gaddafi would you reply to me saying why are you asking if you don't know? well excuse me but isn't that what you do when you don't know something (ask).

Obiviously its not childish but full mature reply to you which puzzled you. Bcoz you was expecting something else and your plan failed. You yourself don't know a person and asking others if they hate or love .. Specially on a religious board mentioning " Why shia hate Hafsa ? " someone told you Shias hate Hafsa and you jump without knowing whois Hafsa , what is her life workout, why she is important.

Edited : How come you are using (ra) with Hafsa when u don't even know her ? As per your words you are using RA with OBAMA too ?

WOW and you want us to collect knowledge and give you. Are you not human being ? are you not born for Examination ? Why you want we to answer your examination copy ?

First go and learn yourself who is Hafsa and then come back and Ask if we hate her or not. Then Discussion can go ahead otherwise what is the use of Hate and Love when you yourself don't know what Question you are asking.

Dont give lame excuses , i know your intention at the time of Question.

If Libyan hate gaddafi then they must have knowledge to hate, Hate and Love is totally based on Knowledge otherwise that is madness. Many guys are walking on street copying themself with some Soccer player , but if u ask them detail of that player, they if not have knowledge of that player .. everyone will say he is crazy he loves someone without knowing him. So you are in that same category.

No as per Islamic Rule of Ahle Tashio Alchohol is prohibited. Neither we ask someone if they are drunk .. bcoz we never ever think about it, i don't know how come you got this habit ?

First tell me who is Hafsa ? Why you are using RA with her ? What is importance of her in Islamic History ?

Then expect answer from us if we hate or not.

Dont feel yourself Clever. I know what is your intention. So first show your knowledge .. later we will show.

If you have no answer don't waste time on stupidity. Thank you
