Civil Unrest In Pakistan

Last few weeks for pakistani were disturbing.what do you guys think is going to happen in a week or so?

For those who dont know,

There is an scholar named Tahir ul Qadri who has dual nationality of Pakistan and canada(he mostly lived in canada) is calling people towards revolution.

He also tried to bring revolution few years ago in tenure of PPP government but then he compromised.

He has a huge fan base here in pakistan.He runs a university,a charity organization,a religious and a political organization.

He belongs to Brelvi,sunni sect.

Now things are pretty serious than the long march he did previously.

There was a clash few days ago between Police and supporters of this guy when Police tried to remove the barriers installed around his property in Model Town Lahore.

9 people died from bullets including a pregnant women.That sparked a huge emotion of anger.

Long story short,now this guy has support of almost every major party in opposition except PPP.

He says he is going to bring a revolution and Government has to go.

Ruling party does not want to give him much space.so they almost jammed the whole lahore city.

 

There is another political leader named Imran khan,who is protesting on alleged rigging in few of the constituencies.

He has announced Azadi march which is going to happen on 14 August(independence day of pak,which is 15 august but who cares :D ) at federal capital Islamabad.

 

Now the political leader and the scholar,both have teamed up against government.

Looks like situation is going to be really rough in coming days.

 

Government is using all resources on his disposal to prevent itself.

Chief of Army staff General Raheel sharif has called a emergency corps commander  meeting tomorrow.

 

Shia political party MWM is also supporting the Tahir ul Qadri.

They also supported PTI  in general election.

 

so yeah things are pretty exciting :D

OP, you summed it up really well.

 

All I can tell for sure is, that students will suffer, as the summer vacations have been extended by one week already, dont know for how long this cry for 'revolution' and 'change' will last. Our city has been sealed for at least 5 days, and people are really beginning to face the effects.... cant go to hospitals easily, offices running with minimum employees, prices of everyday items sky-rocketing and what-not... It is the public who has to bear the brunt of all these things... These leaders are just calling for long-marches and sit-ins as a hobby or a favorite pastime.

well you have already discussed in detail about the situation (thank you). . . let me clear here something that could clear the original picture of all the political unrestness, first of all we should to understand the mentality of all the characters of this drama .. number one imran khan, a person who is mentally a complete dictator, on the other hand Allama Tahir ul Qadri has also the same nature. . . let suppose they both get success in their long march and so called revolution. . . after few days what could u expect from these two allies ? I am dam sure they will have a battle for rule.. . . conclusion is - Nothing will be happened for in good manners for this nations/people of pakistan untill and unless the total system will be changed

There has been many in the Past. 

 

I have to agree with Durr-E-Najaf. The leaders of these protests are just using the people for their own gains and as a means to come to power, then they will be the same old corrupt leaders as previous ones. 

 

If Tahir Ul Quadri was a true honest leader, he would never compromise.

fact is , it seems, since Pakistanis generally regard every single Pakistani leader to be corrupt, they should do what the Iraqis did - invite back their colonial masters to deal with their internal problems, and take over the country... that way they won't have any more Pakistani leader to be blame.

Well this whole drama has a factor of Barelvi-Deobandi tussle too. From what I heard and am observing

 

the rise of TuQ is to counter balance the Deobandi influence which has grown out of balance in recent years.

 

Despite all the harm the current situation is doing, which is a political norm here, I am enjoying the reaction of

 

Nawaz and co. and I will be more than pleased to see Nawaz go down, his throne snatched and even if he gets

 

killed like Mussolini. It wont surprise me at all. Part of me will be happy with that.

 

Meanwhile those with sane mind stay away from going outdoors in agitated cities.

It's a revolution in a teacup. Nothing will happen save some general disturbance and let's hope no more cadavers are made out of the crowds.

 

Like the last time Qadri went up in flaming rage against the PPP government, calling for 'revolution' but accepting the terms dictated by 'the Yazids of our times', so will this time there be a settlement between the ruling PML-N and the duo of detractors, Imran Khan and Tahir-ul-Qadri, joined in by little irrelevant pygmies like Sheikh Rashid and the discarded Chaudhris of Gujrat.

 

In fact, Imran had already hinted a few days ago that he'd call off his 'Freedom March' if the PM allowed the claims of rigging to be investigated on 10 parliament seats of his choosing.

 

Just today, the PM has agreed to the demands and requested the Chief Justice to commence investigation into election rigging. Imran Khan has responded by saying he welcomes the announcement and 'trust', this time, the new CJ Nasir-ul-Mulk.

 

So there, the 'revolution' has already been negotiated....and dead.

^IK responded just a while back saying he wants NS to resign before he would accept the judicial commission.

 

Will be an interesting 14th of August nevertheless. Though it seems like things might get ugly.

That's the only worry, that things might get very ugly. If so happens the army top brass will be forced to sit the parties on table to mediate, all behind the scenes, and there is no mistaking this time that they are in no mood for a coup or to patronise any of the parties involved. So far as my info goes, the army is expected to give Imran a nudge and bring him back into senses, for they don't really want political instability at this time when the big operation is taking place against the militants in the tribal areas.

 

This fake revolution has not a scintilla of chance. And for a genuine revolution to succeed, in the most liberal sense of the word, that revolution in some measure has to be anti-military establishment, otherwise it's always going to be a half measure, and half measures don't last long, like recently in Egypt. That's my criterion.

Whatever the outcome of the call for revolution by the so-called patriots (a couple of fitna-mongers, in my opinion), people are suffering . Just an example, my sister is in hospital and there is no one to attend her, as all roads have been blocked, especially between the twin cities. To add to the worry, they are likely to jamm mobile phone service too.  Let the people suffer and languish, while these idiots can have their moment of glory. :mad:  :mad:  :mad:

There are a lot of theories floating about concerning this 'revolution' of ours:

 

1. It's about Musharraf. The establishment is punishing MNS for failing to keep his word on Musharraf and letting him go. And because he decided, against better advice, to go ahead with that charade of peace dialogue with the Taliban. So, things will calm down after Sharif has lost a couple of nights' sleep and learned his lesson.

 

2. The establishment wants to install a caretaker/technocratic setup to fix things around, run an anti-graft campaign, rule for a good 2.5 year period, and then hand it over back to the politicians.

 

3. The establishment has nothing to do with it. Imran Khan is an egotistical douchebag who thinks he deserves the premiership, whatever the cost. Tahir ul Qadri is a delusional maniac who views himself as a Barelvi incarnation of some 20th century Political Islam leaders, though with a more proactive approach towards political power. Put them together and you have this.

 

4. PTI is aiming to establish itself at the centre of Punjab's politics and become a major challenge to MNS by 2018. 

 

 

The 3rd and 4th explanation seems more likely..

i am concerned about Qadri instead of Imran.Imran's demand will be met and he can end his march after a day or two in my opinion.

 

Army is not against government so it is big plus.

 

at the end of the day,i think government will escape this.But it is going to be a hell of a challenge for PMLN.

Civil disobedience fallen flat. Likewise, most taxation, including income tax, is compulsorily taken off you whenever you transact in the market place.

The agenda of ‘change’ had mesmerised the youth in many parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The charismatic personality of former cricket star Imran Khan pulled crowds of youth whenever he liked to speak.

 

PTI was voted into power in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa because its chairman had promised to bring change within 90 days if voted to power. One-and-a-half year later, after getting elected to power in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, nothing seems to have changed.

 

“The only thing that has changed is my opinion about PTI. That is a good change I guess,” said Irfan Ali, another youth from Swabi who voted for PTI in the previous elections.

“I had lost my mind, I guess, when I voted for PTI,” retorted Saeed Khan, who voted for PTI because he liked cricket and was a big fan of Imran Khan. He thought that since Imran Khan had no history of corruption and was a young politician, he would be different from others.

 

This is the problem with Imran's supporters. They don't have a good reason to justify their votes for him. People were drawn to him not because he had some solid policies to offer, some ideas and ideals which were thought to introduce major changes, something that could engender some fundamental shift in economics and politics of the country; no, they supported him because he was 'clean', 'untested' and they just liked him for winning the Cricket World Cup for Pakistan.

 

Needless to say that this is a very wrong way to choose a party even if you are short of choices.

 

I said the same right after Imran's first Lahore rally which propelled him to fame and made him a serious threat to other contending political parties. But the fanatical followers, usually young impressionable youth from urban centres, released a volley of abuse every time I told them Imran is all bluff and no substance. They still do.
