What Is The Point Of It All? Why Even Live?

We have been put on this earth to worship the all mighty, I know, it makes very little sense but its supposedly true.

To add, Allama Iqbal of Lahore whom Ayatullah Khamanei called himself his 'mureed' pretty much echoes the same sentiment. He says

"Is the delight You (Allah) take in creation

A blessing or some wanton joke?"

Many a thinker have pondered over the question of creation and concluded it makes no sense.

Salam,

This is exactly my question nowadays as well.. I have even posted a long related question on Thinkers' Discourse....but really, I just don't understand the end goal....once we worship Allah, we are good humans, we are admitted to Jannah inshaAllah....and then???? Its interesting if there is no mention by any of our great Islamic scholars, theologians or Ahlul bayt on this matter?

It's the right of Allah (swt) to Create If we really wanna get down to that. He can do it because He can and we have clearly been told that this is not in vain in the Qur'an.

Allah can do whatever He wills.

"Is the delight You (Allah) take in creation

A blessing or some wanton joke?"

Many a thinker have pondered over the question of creation and concluded it makes no sense.

How about the usual pat response that "we have been placed on this planet to be tested for our worthiness of Jannah" and that "Allah is merciful and wants us to achieve perfection which is why he didn't put us in Jannah in the first place."

Now does it make sense to you?

Of course, the subsequent question would then be... what's the point of Heaven exactly? It's by and large a super-charged experience of material pleasures as described in the holy book.

For an infinite period of time.

So, basically, we struggle in this world with all kinds of serious problems as best as we can, accumulate all the scars life has to offer, for one specific end goal:

To lie on a reclining chair, wearing silk, being served by pretty youths who look like pearls, and being lazy forever.

What could there possibly be to talk about? There will be no controversial issues, or things to be enlightened about. Everything will be served on a golden plate.

How utterly mundane.

Moreover, we'll be raised on the Day of Judgment with our physical bodies, and these physical bodies will be assigned to a specific eternal abode. There is only so much pleasure a body can endure. After a billion years we'll be worn out.

Of course, you could say that God will render us superhuman. But then it's just artificial.

If Allah swt never created this universe, meaning space-time, atoms, our souls do not exist, Allah swt would still exist. It's a different form of existence, one that is not subject to time, space or anything physical. Think about that. Don't think that God, the Glorified knows the future because He's very intelligent; rather, He knows the future because His existence is not subject to time like us. He's in the past, present and future all the same.

Also don't think this universe is the only one Allah created. Imagine a universe where xygen is a liquid at room temp or carbon is a gas.

Think about that: If Allah swt never created anything (no angels, no universe, no light) He would still exist-- but it's a form of existence we can't wrap our minds around fully, at least not yet. Can you think of one thing we do that is not bound by time? No. Even thinking happens over a period of time. BUT for Allah swt, thinking/calculating and designing/creating does not happen over a period of time. It's a different form of existence altogether.

So why are we here?

Be glad that you have been given existence, and recognize that this existence has a Designer. Every thought, every action that you can think of doing, Allah swt created all the paths that you can take. There is no originality really, not even in a new recipe you've created. We are here to worship this Creator, in every action, remember Him in everything-- we have free-will and intelligence. Don't do it because you get heaven or get hell if you don't-- do it simply because this very unique Creator has instructed you to. Heaven is like waving candy to a kid to get him to do something.

Imam Ali as said he'd rather be in a masjid worshipping Allah swt than in heaven. Why? In Heaven, Ali is pleased with himself; in the masjid, Allah swt is pleased with Ali.

Think about that: the all intelligent, all knowing, all powerful Creator is pleased with you-- is there a greator goal in life, to seek the pleasure of the Lord?

salam
