Images posted on social media appear to show the destruction of about a dozen places of worship across northern Iraq, in areas recently taken over by extremist militants.

Some images showed the al-Qubba Husseiniya, a Shia shrine, being blown up in the city of Mosul.

Militants used a bulldozer to destroy a shrine known as the "Girl's Tomb" in Mosul.

They believe giving special veneration to graves and relics is against the teachings of Islam.

Militants also destroyed the Saad bin Aqeel Husseiniya shrine in Tal Afar, approximately 50 km (35 miles) west of Mosul.

The militants, believed to belong to Isis (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant), are also reported to have attacked churches in Mosul.

More images showed the Ahmed al-Rifai shrine and tomb in the Mahlabiya district near Tal Afar being attacked with a bulldozer.

The militants have attacked Shia and Sunni shrines alike, and have vowed to continue destroying places of worship which they do not approve of.

I'm still amazed that Iraq is incapable of taking back Mosul from these savages.

Sure defend the territory you still have, but the last thing you want is to let them further consolidate the areas they have.

Progress is far too slow and this war will become Syria 2.0 quick fast if more isn't done and quickly at that.

I believe Mosul is hard to take, they need informations before they can start their operations. In Mosul there are Sunni Iraqis mixture with ISIS, with wrong actions, it may turn very bad.

This is their wont. Nothing surprising. When have they ever built something? All they know is how to destroy, destroy, destroy and kill, kill, kill and pillage, pillage and pillage.

A wr wb

Tell all Iraqi Shias to send lanat on these people. But probably Iraqis are lazy and a tired lot. They will at the most send only one time lanat ,thats all and hope for Allah's mercy. To shower from somewhere else.Let some Indian,Paki or U.S shia help them, then when they get relief, they will call these people rapist, usurpers, dogs loving wealth and what not.

You Iraqis be serious about it especially your laziness in warding off these evil. You should be like thousand in front of their one or tell your Ayatollahs to do some aamaal to just finish them off.Gain Shia control over the areas.Read Surah Fatah, surah Naas and surah Alay Imraan. All Iraqi Shias read it to gain victory over Isis.Read it till eid everyday or for forty days .
