Bismillah,

I am so shocked to read this hadith please some one explain it in details:

Hadith 1

Thawban said, "The Prophet said: 'Three men will be killed at the place where your treasure is.  Each of them will be the son of a Khalifah, and none of  them will get hold of the treasure.  Then black banners will come out of the east...' If you see him, go and give him your allegiance, even if you have to  crawl over ice, because he is the Khalifah of Allah, the Mahdi.'"

does this hadith applies on ISIL?

Thank You

Salam.

It doesn't make a movement the promised one, especially when that Yankee movement uses a "flag" according to the hadith. Most people take the hadiths literally and I believe it is false. Anyway, alike hadiths especially in Sunni sources, mention the origin of this army as coming out of Khorasan (Islamic Iran) which confirms what is meant by the East in this hadith. And black banners is a metaphor for their banners (signs) being a manifestation of mourning. And we should note that shia scholars wear black cloacks and Sayyids black turbans and women black chadors, etc.. This is what is meant by black banners/signs.

I believe hadiths about Islamic eschatology needs to be examined wholly. I don't know any shia islamic book about interpretations of the hadiths on eschatology but about sunni sources, I suggest, Akhir Zaman by Said Nursi most. ma salam

(salam) brother

When you read a hadith and you have something in mind, please think first. Do you think that Abu Bakr Al Baghdadi, who killed so many innocent muslims and christians could be Imam Al Mahdi (as)? Do you think a man who simply come and so called "capture" Iraq and Syria land for his own is Imam Al Mahdi (as)? Do you think this dirty man who's army rape women, kill children, steal money, kill innocent people, send them out of their homes is Imam Al Mahdi (as)???

If you think he could be, then you don't have smallest clue on who is Imam Al Mahdi (AS), just thought comparing him to these garbage people is senseless and absurd. Those are not the black banners of ISIL the hadith is refering to. It's about other group.

Interesting that you are a new poster and promptly posted garbage like this. If you think that 'baghdadi' has even the remotest link to the awaited one then I would suggest that there is something wrong with your Islamic education (no offence meant)

Salamun alaykum.

You have not translated the whole narration and this has made a great misunderstanding.

The whole narration reads:

"Thawban said, "The Prophet said: 'Three men will be killed at the place where your treasure is.  Each of them will be the son of a Khalifah, and none of  them will get hold of the treasure.  Then black banners will come out of the east and will kill them. Then Allah's Caliph, al-Mahdi, will come. If you see him, go and give him your allegiance, because he is the Khalifah of Allah, the Mahdi.'  (bihar al-Anwar, vol. 51, p. 97).

As you see, al-Mahid will rise after the event of the black banners and ...

Of course, the chain of narrators =should be studied separately as well.

No.

Lots of Islamic movements use black banners. Like every ten years there is an Islamic movement with black banners.

People used this hadith to refer to the Taliban twenty years ago I remember.

Yeah. People use hadiths to suit their prupose. Put yourself in Al-Baghdadi's shoes, you would use those black banners too, to look sacred in front of people.

Personally, I know nothing about this man, but what interests me is his name and the name of the Taliban leader. One is Umar and the other is Abu Bakar. Something disliked by shiites.
