Im a hindu. Im really believe in the The Quran and in fact started to read it as well. I found out about the 5 pillars of Islam and the teaching of Prophet Mohammed. I read a lot about islam. I read about the miracles that took place. I read about the tragic Karbala. I went to a majlis and I cried hearing what happened. I found the Shia islam attracting me. Im very fond of Imam Ali's saying. I wanted to revert into Islam as I want to be a Muslim and I believe in it whole heartedly .I want to know the procedure and should I change my name? Is there anything legally im supposed to know? Im a majot and I can take my own decisions. Ill convince my parents later. But I really want to follow this beautiful religion. As far i know, if i believe in it and I follow it correctly I can revert. Can someone help me?

Salams,

You've already done the most important part which is reading and researching and believing in that Truth from your Creator, Allah.

Then you just have to make your intention and say the 'shahaada', the proclamation of faith by saying:

I bear witness that there is no god but Allah

I bear witness that Mohammad is the Prophet of Allah

I bear witness that Ali is the Guardian over the Believers (after the Prophet)

Then continue to seek Knowledge from the Hadith (sayings) of the Prophet Mohammad and his Progeny. Then do your best to practice what you learn. Don't push yourself too far too fast at first. Just do what is easy at first and just slowly keep moving in the right direction. The Qur'an came to the people over 23 years so our development comes over time.

Take it easy on your family and friends at first. Don't feel like you have to throw this in their face etc etc.

If you need any hadith, i have them very well organized and easy to read in english. The first volume is called "Allah's Perfect Guidance and His Pure Guides". It is so easy to see the Truth... step by step. Then there are other volumes on things like health care advice from the Prophet and His Progeny, The Attributes and Oneness of Allah and many more.  I collected many hadith on each topic so people could get a full picture.

If you want any of this information, I don't know how to do it on this site but you can e-mail me at   mubaraka99@hotmail.com and I'll be happy to send to you.

Welcome to the Truth from the Creator.

Be aware that the people who call themselves Muslims are not always good but This does not change the Eternal Truth of Allah.

salams and du'a

tahira

Salams,

by the way, i just saw your name on this site... you have a very sunni name and the sunnis according to the Prophet and his Progeny the sunnis are the enemy of the Prophet and his Progeny.

I suggest you change your name to something like Fatima, the name of the Prophet's daughter, Zahra  or zaynab who is the sister of Imam Hussain.

I have hadith all about this topic if you want them!

May peace be with you. Salaam. Welcome to the deen of truth. You have sought Allah and Allah brought you closer. I commend you for your journey, and inshAllah the journey to come. First off, I would like to say, to become a Muslim you must give an oath (shahada) and the way for it to be done is:

Ash hadoo an laa ilaahaa ilallaah [i bear witness that there is no god but Allah (one god)]

Ash hadoo anna Muhammadan Rasoollallah (I bear witness that Muhammad is the Prophet of Allah). If you state those two things with belief and conviction, you are Muslim.

The following may be added if you wish to declare that you have consciously decided to accept the Ja’fari school of thought with Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (as) as the divinely appointed guide and ruler after the Holy Prophet.

Ash hadoo anna Alioon Wallioollah Wasiyo Rasoolillaah, Wa Khalifatahoo Bilaa Fasl [i bear witness that Ali is the successor appointed by Allah, inheritor of the Prophet, and the rightful ruler or Caliph (immediately after the Prophet)]

There is nothing legally that you must do except obey Allah, His messenger, and the chosen Imams. InshAllah start reading books on Shia Islam and strengthen your faith. Make sure to start eating Halal (Zibiha) meat, and dont forget your five daily prayers which you can lean from here: http://www.al-islam.org/nutshell/files/prayers.pdf You can choose to follow a Marja whom is a leader you follow that has derived all islamic rulings and permissibility on what is allowed and what is not. You can learn more about it here as well: http://www.al-islam.org/nutshell/files/taqlid.pdf If you have any questions you can contact and email them your question as well. My marja is Ayatollah Sistani and his website is accessible in english. It is in my signature in the bottom with many other links for sources and lectures on Islam.

I will leave you with a link for you to easily learn the basics for now inshAllah.

http://www.al-islam.org/nutshell/

These are all in PDF file format just scroll down and make sure to look on the english column. It has every single topic you can think of.

May Allah protect and guide you inshAllah. If you need anything please post here if you would like.
