How Did The Ahlulbayt A.s Supplicate To Allah Swt?

I begin in the name of Allah swt, the most beneficent the most merciful

"And when My servants ask you concerning Me, then surely I am very near; I answer the prayer of the suppliant when he calls on Me, so they should answer My call and believe in Me that they may walk in the right way. [2:186]

"And those whom they call on besides Allah have not created anything while they are themselves created; [16:20]

I have decided for the time being to stop trying to debate the belief that we should not ask the Imams a.s directly for our duas (even if we believe they were granted the power), and supplicate to Allah swt as our Imams a.s themselves taught us to. Note, i believe in tawassul, i believe in saying O Allah , for the sake of Muhammed and ale Muhammed, grant me by Dua. Or O Allah, i turn to you through your prophet. But i never ever make a dua where my creator is not the first name i mention, or never at all mentioned in my call nor addressed. While i love our Imams a.s i do not believe they have the power to grant any dua, they are my guides and role models, and will if i am lucky and if Allah swt permits them to, intercede for me. I also believe i can call directly to Allah, for their sake and through them in this world too. I am glad there was in the life-time of this earth atleast one Ayatullah, and to a lesser extent a small miority of shia's on this website who would agree with not calling on any other than Allah swt. This is more suited to this thread as it's not a debate, please don't debate this issue, only quote hadiths from our Imams a.s, or discuss the hadiths in more depth.

Could anyone kindly post any hadith, either when they said (O Allah, for the sake of...) or any means they used. Hadith's only as i am aware of our beautiful dua's like Kumayl, which hasn't got a gram of shirk in it and is a pure beautiful call to Allah swt.

I am making this thread after being inspired by Ayatullah Fadlallah, whose official website decreed this:

Q: Is it permissible to supplicate and pray to the Imams with the intention that they are the means to Allah? If the answer is no, what is your opinion regarding this matter and what do you think about this verse: “and seek mean of nearness to Allah”?

A: The supplication must be only addressed to Allah (The most Exalted) and this is what traditions of the Imams (a.s) have said. The Ayah refers to the means that guide to Allah, and the Imams (a.s) are the guides to Allah because they know Allah, His religion and His message. Therefore, this Ayah does not mean that we have to address the supplication to the Imams and not to Allah (The Most Exalted).

I have found a hadith both shia books, where Allah swt is addressed. So far i have not seen a single hadith where our Imams a.s ask us to direct our duas to them and leaving Allah swt in that call.

Please share your hadiths, here are a few i found:

Imam Ja`far as-Sadiq [a] said,
"When you stand to pray, say:
'O my Lord, I give preference to Muhammad and place him in front of me in need, and turn to You through him. So, make me privileged to You through him, and bring me near to You through him in this world and the next. Make my prayers accepted through him, my sins forgiven through him, and my supplications answered through him. Indeed, you are the Forgiving, the Merciful.'"

Let's not insult our intelligence. I don't want to derail the topic but would suggest concerned readers to click the link above and read the actual question and the entire response of the office of Ayatullah Fadhlullah.

Okay.
