i have been dreaming in which i was aware that it was a dream, and in the dream i would will something to happen and it would happen, such as if i wanted to fly i would fly, or if i wanted to extrude a plant from branch it would also happen

other times i would refuse to do something that the dream direction tried to impose on me and i would stop it from happening

so yeah i guess you could control what you can do in your dream

If so, then it is possible to imagine that you are seeing Imam al-Mahdi or other Imams? What's your opinion on this?

Obviously if you are conscious during a dream (intentional lucid dreaming) you are responsible for your thoughts/imagination.

Bismillah.

Salaam sister.

Unfortunately I didn't comprehend your last sentence. Could you please explain more what do you mean by the word "responsible" in the sentence: "you are responsible for your thoughts/imagination". Is it possible for an asleep guy to be responsible for something.

With Duas.

Narsis.

My personal experience with dreams has been that while a lot of it is out of my control, large parts of it are. As in, I will end up in X situation and while it is a lot like watching a movie, I do have a very base level of consciousness (more like I'm drunk or something) whereby I am writing the story and, at the same time, am not (basically, I make some parts, some are more "predetermined") - because, after all, a drunk doesn't have the consciousness to write a story.

Something like that excerpt Yasmeena shared...

As a point of interest, that blog seems to suggest that people can control what they do in dreams, like choosing to have a dream that involves flying. How true is that? Has anyone here experienced that? That would be interesting, indeed...

I guess :

Muscle Reflect, Spontaneous Thinking, and Dreaming is related to 'aql. It is an instataneous act without any thinking/consideration.

It can be trained (Yoga, Shalatul Layl etc).

I also think where is the realm for uninstataneous act, i.e. muscle stamina, Long deep thinking and dreaming (?).

sometimes the laws of this life and what we are used to here,  it tries to take over our dreaming, and if you begin to fly you being to question "how am i flying" and suddenly you cant fly anymore, and because of this you suddenly lose the ability to fly, but if you just "do it" then you are able to fly again

or if you believe that you can only fly "so much" then again it affects your dreaming ability

there is times where i have had dreams and something in the dream, the dream tried to impose itself on me, and i tried to run away, and no matter how much i tried i couldnt get away , so there is dreams or aspects of dreams which are hard to control or control you no matter what you will to happen

but if your will is strong in your dream, then you can do certain things at your own choice , fun stuff like making a branch in your hand grow and wrap itself around your fingers, so you are seeing almost a "magic" like effect

so controlling dreams comes down to your will and how strong it is , you need enough will to firstly take control of your dream and tie in your consciousness to it so you know you are dreaming, and then you need to have enough will to believe in what you are willing to happen so that you can make happen whatever you will, and finally you need to have enough wil to control the complete dream and what direction it is going in so that it doesnt sweep you away and gain control over you and what is happening and playing out in your dream

and ties in to your "waking" life where if you have more will in your waking life then you have that will to use in your dreaming life

it reminds me abit of this

"breaking free"

also to add, dreams and its scenarios and environments can be revisited in other dreams(not always all) just like you visit your own neighborhoods and familiar places, and may become familiar places in your dreams  , however sometimes if you visit a place such as your own neighborhood you can see buildings and places which are not there in real life

such as in my dream i went up the hill of this street that is in my neighborhood, however there was a mosque there while in real life there is no mosque there just a shop

Salam Brother,

I must say at first that this is my own opinion and not based on a fatwa or anything like that.

Normally if you are dreaming you are not responsible for your actions/thoughts. Lucid dreaming is somewhat different. Here is a description of how lucid dreaming feels like: http://www.world-of-lucid-dreaming.com/what-do-lucid-dreams-feel-like.html

Here is a short excerpt:

Even in most lucid dreams I dont think people are responsible for their decisions simply because although they are able to make them their decision-making is still hazy and so are their senses. For instance, lets say you knowingly burn down a house in your dream then certainly there is no problem with that. It is almost like being in a virtual world.

However, I am specifically talking about those who practice "lucid dream sex". I have read that most people start to lucid dream specifically to reach a stage where they can bring their sexual fantasies to life. Of course,it is not equivalent to doing the deed in real life. I think this is similar to how we view our thoughts. We are responsible for our bad thoughts though we are not necessarily punished for them.

Here what I mean by responsible is that one is responsible if such dreams/thoughts/fantasies lead him/her to committing a haram act. Again I dont mean normal dreaming Im specifically rephering to conscious desissions done while lucid dreaming.

Still waiting for someone to reply to this. I asked a mrja this question once. But they didn't get the question. :(

its logical

like Yasmeena answered you

its not as if you would harm anyone in real life

also many of us have dreamed where we might have done what in life would be considered a sin, such as we dreamed we did violence or other acts , but since it is a dream it is not really violence because nobody was hurt, nor is it really any other sin

Hmmm. Let's take a simple example to make it logical. I am lucid dreaming about 'sex' to the point of ejaculation/orgasm. I have done this intentionally and will this be considered, manstrubation, a sin?

Or this is allowed?

I do not know if i this question is taboo or haram (considered insulting) for the follower of Ahlul Bayt as :

What is Nabi Muhammad SAWA and the infallible (Ahlul Bayt as and their Itrah) saying about this matter (Dreaming control) ?

I think they (SAWA and as) are all conscious and unconsciously always being guided by Allah SWT.

(As if you are hurrily awaken during nightmare dream, porn dream, horrible dream etc :donno: ?)
