The Mahdi

The Messiah from the line of David was promised to the Jews. Isa was that Messiah while Jews believe he will be like a normal person and not a chosen person like a Prophet.

When it comes to the Mahdi, we have to keep some things in mind.

1) When it comes to important roles that God has people in, they are of the best servants and closest servants to God, the chosen ones.

2) That when God expects a person to be followed fully, he is free from giving them any misguidance, and hence is a special servant of Allah, and not a normal person.

3) Establishing justice was a goal of all Prophets and is going to be fulfilled by this person,  if God sent Prophets so humanity can rise up for justice per Quran, and Allah ÓÈÍÇäå æÊÚÇáì will send Imam Mahdi so humanity finally get's justice established, don't you think a person of same importance of the Prophets will be chosen by Allah ÓÈÍÇäå æÊÚÇáì for this great role?

However, we see when it comes to the Mahdi. The Sunnis want to say he is a regular pious person. He isn't chosen like the Prophets.  This is while the Mahdi will do something so significant and that is establish justice on earth.

The Shiite Mahdi has him as a chosen one. The Dawoodi line Messiah and the Ahlebayti line Mahdi are both chosen ones exalted above humanity.

Sunnis have a more sever problem! They believe that generally Imam is not a special person. They believe Imam is a normal person who was chosen by people ( not by Allah swt) to have a leadership over the Islamic community and he could be any ordinary person not the most knowledgeable one

Salam aleykum brother,

That's only what some individiualls think but Imam Mahdi (as) is definitely someone very special, close and belowed to Allah Azza wa Jall, he (as) is chosen by Allah Azza wa Jall Himself and Divinely appointed as His Khalifa on earth before and after the Proclamation in Makka.

The meaning of Allah Azza wa Jall rectifying Imam Mahdi (as) over night is something between him and Allah Azza wa Jall, it can lead to many interpretations, leave that for the Imam Mahdi (as) and Allah Azza wa Jall.

The Imam's (as) mission is not just justice, he has a much more Greater and Divine mission than just that, Islam's Haq is one part of Imam Mahdi's (as) mission.

Here, read again what I've wrote, maybe it can help you out understand a Sunni view on Imam Mahdi: http://www.shiachat.com/forum/topic/235020620-are-you-ready-to-accept-imam-mahdi-are-you/
