These days many shoe manufacturers, in order to decrease the cost, are manufacturing using pig leather as either uppers, or inner or soles. These shoes as sold don't have any information about the leather being used.

Since pig is Najis, how can we identify shoes with certainty and ease that leather/ inner / sole is not from pig.

Is there a running list of brands and shoes which are made with pig leather?

Don't know about that. But i do know that 'Base London' shoes are made from 'halal' leather as they are made in Turkey or something. Or at least that is what they told me.

Question: What about the leather products made in a European country, if we are unaware of the source of that leather? It is said that some European countries import cheap leather from Muslim countries and then use it for manufacturing various products. Can we consider such leather pure? Are we allowed to say salat in them? Can such a weak probability [about it originating from a Muslim country] be given any credence?

Answer: If the probability of the leather originating from a zabiha (an animal slaughtered Islamically) source is so weak that people would not normally give any credence (for example, the probability of 2%), it is to be considered impure and this cannot be used in salat. But if the probability is not so weak, it can be considered pure and using it in salat would be permissible.

there is an actual way to identify pig leather, and it is that if yo look at the leather and see 3 dots patterns that look like the laser beams of Predator , then you can be certain it is pig leather

Thanks for providing link to the article.

Do you use magnifying lens to identify leather with 3dot pattern? I suppose, I need to get experience in spotting pig leather.

Is there a list of brands, which use pig leather ? It would help to eliminate some?

Jazakullah.

(salam)

generally when an animal is not slaughtered based on Islamic rules, they are najis whether they are dogs of pigs or other kinds  of animal.

the only difference is pig and dog will never be pure even if they are slaughtered Islamically.

so beside that issue, you have to differentiate and know whether they are slaughtered according to Islamic rules?

In islamic countries and markets you're not supposed to find out these facts.

but in non-Islamic markets you have to realize and see if they did it according to rules or not?

Better double check when people tell you things since their own FAQ says they are made in Europe and India and some items incluse pigskin...
