Deepening Knowledge Of Ahlulbayt

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am not a Muslim but for a longer time attracted to the Ahlulbayt; based on what I know they are examples of ethic life and true spirituality. But I feel I don't know enough at this moment.

I have studied philosophy for many years and I am well acquainted with the history of Western philosophy. But starting to know more about the Ahlulbayt I feel that maybe here I have found a treasure of great worth; something that can really help me to grow more from just knowledge to understanding and wisdom.

Can anyone help me to find some resources to deepen my knowledge. A good comprehensive book in English by a true pious scholar for example? This would help me to deepen my knowledge because I feel this important.

بِسْــــــــــــــــــمِ اﷲِالرَّحْمَنِ اارَّحِيم

Firstly, I recommend you read and follow the posts here: https://www.facebook.com/AhlAlBaytDaily

If you wish to gain a deeper understanding of the Ahl al-Bayt [as] then one must, with a sincere and pure heart, dive head first into the sea of their impeccable wisdom and eloquence.  Here you will find endless gems and hidden treasures, that will bring tranquility to the hardest and most stubborn of hearts.

They are the spiritual and legal guides and masters of the people. They are ones entrusted with the role of disseminating knowledge and the inheritors of the Prophetic role of acting as torches of illuminating light, shining forth and making clear the path to the Beloved (God).

Here are two examples to spark some interest:

Ahmad b. Muhammad from al-Hasan b. `Ali [al-Washsha’] from Abu Ishaq Tha`laba from Abu Maryam. He said:

Abu Ja`far [imam al-Baqir] عليه السلام said to Salama b. Kuhayl and al-Hakam b. `Utayba:

“Go east or west – you will not find correct knowledge except that which comes from us, the Ahl al-Bayt.”  (Basa’ir al-Darajat)

(sahih) (صحيح)

It is reported, the 5th Imam, Muhammad al-Baqir [a] said:

O Jabir, does it suffice for a person to profess to being a Shi’ah by attesting love for us, the Ahl al-Bayt [as]? By Allah, our Shi’ah are none other than those who are careful of their duty to Allah and obey Him, and they are only known, O Jabir, through their humility, their trustworthiness, their frequent remembrance of Allah, their fasting and praying, their goodness towards their parents, their attending to their poor neighbors, the destitute, the indebted, and the orphans, their honest speech, their recitation of the Qur’an, their restraint of their tongue when in the company of others, except when it is for a good purpose, and their care and loyalty towards their kinsfolk. The most beloved of Allah’s servants are those who are the most careful of their duty to Him and those who strive most to obey Him.

O Jabir, by Allah, we cannot attain proximity to Allah except through obedience to Him, and we do not possess the right to grant immunity from the Fire, nor can anyone have a claim against Allah. Whoever is obedient to Allah is our friend, and whoever is disobedient to Him is our enemy, and you cannot benefit from our wilayah except through piety and obedience.”   (Shaykh al-Hurr al-’Amili, Jihad al-Nafs, ch. 18, num. 3)

God Willing I will locate additional resources for you later on. Right now I have my hands full with Uni work. But as for a books, I would strongly recommend: Mizan al-Hikma, which is a compendium of Shī'ī Hadīth from the Ahl al-Bayt [as]. The work is breathtaking. Unfortuntely, it is rather expensive for a book, my personal copy set me back around $75. However, it was worth every cent and one truly cannot put a price on the words of these extraordinary individuals.

May God write us amongst the followers of the Master of this Affair [ajfs] and his Holy forefathers [as], ameen.

Thanks all. A lot of fascinating reading material!

Thanks for the video Grief; it certainly connects a lot to where I am at at the moment. I just want to find a way to live an authentic moral life, finding true piety and connection to God. My instinct tells me that coming closer to Ahulbayt is the path to advance towards these goals. But I need help and guidance.

Assalamu Alaikum.

When the following verse of the Qur'an was revealed, "(As for) those who believe and do good, surely they are the best of creatures" [Qur'an 98:7]

The Prophet (s) said to Ali, "It is for you and your Shi'ah."

He further said, "I swear by the one who controls my life that this man (Ali) and his Shi'ah shall secure deliverance on the Day of Resurrection."

This week I've read the book "The Perfect Man" by Ayatullah Murthada Mutahhari as Imam Ali as a perfect example of ethics. What a brilliant book about philosophical anthropology!

I LOVE this author. May Allah bless him. All his books are filled with knowledge. Such a great scholar was he...
