Alcohol Which Evaporates In Baking?

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

As-salaam mulaikum. I have a question regarding alcohol in artificial and natural flavours as most food products will not list if alcohol is present in the ingredient section of the package. I bought a snack and I called the company. They said that there is grain based alcohol from barley or wheat but it all evaporates during baking. So, there is no alcohol in the finished product as it evaporates. This is what they said. So, is it permissible to consume that food or not?

Depends on your marja. Some say all alcohol is najis, thus making the food najis regardless of whether it bakes out. Some say only intoxicating liquids like wine, vodka, whiskey are najis but not other types of alcohol like what you mentioned and thus baking it out would allow you to eat it. Ayatollah sistani goes even further and says only wine from grapes and beer from barley are najis so most almost all baked good would be fine since they don't normally use wine or beer

alcohol does not just evaporate that easily... it takes a lot of heating and you have to make sure the liquid is on top and not mixed up with whatever you are baking.... don't use any artificial flavors they are terrible for you, natural flavors if they are extracts then they are OK ... but make sure the extraction process is non-alcoholic --

see: non-alcoholic/sugar free vanilla extract recipe - most natural extracts can be similarly made at home:
