(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) -In a major and bold statement today, main stream Sunni muslim scholars issue a religious decree against Takfiris yesterday in Pakistan, calling them Kharjites (out-cast) of modern era. The clarity of words in the decree show the intent is quite clear. Main stream sunni ulema used to condemn takfiris in past and as a result many of them being killed by takfiris in Pakistan.

It is interesting stats that post creation of Pakistan, 1947,  Deobandi (Wahabi/Takfiri) sect was only 4% of Pakistan population where vast majority follow Barelvi (Hanafi) tradition or Sufism. The Wahabbism took root in Pakistan in 1980′s era when US backed ‘jihad’ started in neighboring Afghanistan and Saudis came in to Pakistan to spread Wahabbism to generate human resources to support it. Ever since then Wahabism is part of Pakistan ruling establishment and with government support and Saudi money it is considered to have spread up to 10% of Pakistani population with majority still following Sunni Barelvi.

Remember Kharjites formed in early Islamic history and raises in Imam Ali(a.s.) era sticking to wrong interpretation of Islam and declaring every other person infidel, including Imam Ali (a.s) (naouzbillah). They assassinated Imam Ali (a.s) and were also part of Yazeed (L.A) army in Karbala. Imam Ali (a.s) declared them infidel and did jihad against them.

The consensus Fatwa issued by fifty Ulema of SIC termed the crushing of those resorting to an armed revolt against a Muslim state as mandatory on part of the government.

“The Pakistani Taliban who declare the killings of Muslims as legitimate are actually the outcasts of the present era,” the statement said.

The statement further said that murder is the next big sin after Shirk (having faith in more than one God).

“Attacking mosques, Mazars, hospitals, funerals, educational institutions, markets and security forces is not Jihad but chaos. Those who shed the blood of girl students, foreign mountaineers and innocent human beings are defectors of Islam and rebels of Pakistan,” it declared.

It said extending cooperation to the government for a Jihad against terrorists is a duty of every citizen. “The right place for waging a Jihad against the US is Afghanistan and not Pakistan,” it added.

The Fatwa declared the drone strikes as violation of international laws and atrocity on part of the US.

No one is going to remember this fatwa.

The reality is that most people will still believe some sects (like Shia, Ahmadiyah...etc) are kafir.

The term used by the report about terrorists blowing up innocents and state personnel as "Takfiris" is misleading. Although their ranks do consist of Takfiris but this fatwa isn't about them per se. Nor this fatwa trying to prove that Shias or any other sect is within the fold of Islam. On this account the Sunnis/Wahhabis will always have differences just like they had in the past. But this is not the point. If some Sunni/Wahhabis want to believe Shia are outside the fold of Islam, I can't do anything about it. But that doesn't give them license to shed the blood of those who they think are outside the fold of Islam. I mean it is common sense and basic human logic but those confused Sunni masses need to be reminded that Ahmadis or Shia or whatever....guys you can't go out with a gun and kill any of them. This is the point of the fatwa.

Yes it does. Islam give the right to kill the apostates. Apostacy exist in the Islamic law/sharia for both the Shia and Sunnis derived Islamic laws.

You wanna end the violence. Just end the punishment for apostacy. After that, every killing of blood will be a criminal offence.

That wouldn't help either, killing is criminal offence, no amount of religious purpose or explanation would help in such case. The killer of Salman Taseer, accused (wrongfully) of blasphemy, was handed down a death sentence, despite enormous public pressure to do otherwise.

The problem we face everywhere is a lack of willingness and ability on part of state machinery. The Pakistani state fails to maintain state writ and a general sense of lawlessness prevails. Same issue with Iraq.

This is a truly brave move from the Sunni Ulema.

It should be publicised and spread as much as possible so that the criminal hands of the Takfiris can be fully exposed all over the world.

Whether it changes the status quo, that is out of our hands, but the Sunni Ulema have fulfilled a major part of their responsibility, and should be praised for doing do.

You are conflating two separate but related issues. Apostasy and punishment for apostasy (death) applies to those believers who turn their back on Islam and declare non-belief. Among overwhelming Sunni fuqaha this does not stretch to non-Sunni, so called unorthodox Islamic sects which do not believe in the Sunni belief system to begin with. Now this is the problem with hardcore Wahhabis. To them anyone not professing mainstream Sunnism should be killed, at least theoretically. The difficult part is how to put this into practice.

What is so hard to put into practice.

The apostasy law in Islam is the the biggest problem why the Muslims are killing each other over religion. When you get rid of it, you'll get rid of people maniacal tendency to kill others who don't hold exactly the same belief as you.

Good points.

What Sunni ulama are doing these days is that they are distancing themselves from the Takfiris, they are trying to save the rest of their young generation from turning Takfiri, and that in no way means they are accepting Shias as muslims. At the end of the day, they would prefer Takfiris over Shias because they follow the same Idols.

So the Pro-unity well-wisher Shias should not pour their water due to mirage and use their brains. We will always remain their number one enemy as long as we follow the Ahl al-Bayt; Respecting the Enemies of Ahl al-Bayt and not Cursing them for the sake of unity will just bolster their position and increase their attacks on us.However political unity against a common enemy is possible; for example Iran is united with Communists of Russia and China when it comes to Global issues and common enemy which is the Imperialists.
