To the Wahabiya all you others will remain kafir and wajib ul qatl even if you write the names of their particular idol "sahabis", the "jamaat" in their name "wa al jamaat", until and unless you abandon your religions and join them comprehensively.

Thats the sad reality behind this little tantrum of respect for "sahabis". What are "sahabis" but ordinary human beings. Any sane man or a any true Muslim will always condemn the rotten ones and love and adhere to the righteous ones, whether they are sahabis, molvis, sinners, whatever. All criminals will always get punishment and criticism. Even the "wives of Prophets" like Loot's (as) disbelieving wife (la).

What about the 12th Imams? Aside from Hasan, Hussine and Ali, which Sunnis consider Sahabah. The rest of the Imams are not by any measure "ordinary" and are given powers that Sunnis do not give to any Sahabi. How is that explainable in your framework?

History (Islamic and non-Islamic) has proven beyond doubt that it was the companions (May Allah be pleased with them all) who served Allah (SWT) and helped the messenger (Sal Allahu 'Alayhi wa Salam) during the early days of Islam. To curse these men and women is just like cursing your own mother.

Salam,

Thank you but question remain, do Sunni brothers and sisters think that if a person curses sahaba, then he becomes KAFIR?

These are rulings from their scholars about those who curse the "sahaba", although, there are disagreements between some of them in regards to this issue.

Some jurists of Kufa and others were decisive regarding the killing of those who insult the Companions and attributing disbelief to the Shi`a.

Muhammad ibn Yusuf Al Firyaby was asked about the person who insults Abu Bakr, he said: "He is a disbeliever.” He was asked: should we offer Salah on him after his death? He said: No. He was asked: What can we do while he saying “No god but Allah”? He said: "Do not touch him with your hands but push him with a stick until you bury him.

Abdul-Malik ibn Habib said: "Anyone of the Shi`a hates `Uthman or free himself of him must be lashed harshly and anyone hates Abu Bakr and `Umar the punishment will be doubled. He may be beaten again and again or detained until death. He must not be killed except when he insults the Prophet (peace be upon him)."

This is the famous view of Imam Malik. Malik said: "Anyone insults the Prophet (peace be upon him) must be killed, and anyone insults his Companions must be lashed

Ishaq ibn Rahawayh said: "Anyone insults the Companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) should be punished and imprisoned. This is the view of the most of our scholars, such as Ibn Abu Musa. He said: "Anyone of the Shi`a insults one of the Predecessor (the Companions) he is not competent and should not be married any of our women. And whoever attributes lies to `A’ishah (may Allah be pleased her) he will not be a Muslim and cannot marry a Muslim woman except if he repents and declare his repentance.

The best scholars who explained this issue quite well was Sheikh Al Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah bestow mercy on his soul) in the last portion of his book, "Al Sarim Al Maslul `Ala Shatim Al Rasul" (3/1055-1113) where he said: "As for those who insult the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) whether from his family or others, Imam Ahmad said: they should be beaten harshly, but he did not declare their disbelief nor he said they must be killed."

Strangely, "Shayk Al-Islam" Ibn Taymiyah based on his verdict from the last quote above, does not declare Shias as Kaffir if they insult the "Sahaba".

EVERY SINGLE one of them?

And what's your answer in regards to one who curses/insults them?

In his letter to Ma'moon, Imam al-Reza (A) wrote: "The following is waajib (obligatory): Baraa’at from those who oppressed 'Aal-e-Muhammad, those who forced them out (of their homes), began oppressing them, and changed the traditions established by their Prophet (S)." Uyoon Akhbar ar-Reza (A) chap 35 hadith 1

Upon the enemies of Ahle Bait (A) is the curse of Allah, His Prophets and Angels and all creations because we read in Hadith Kisa' that Almighty says if it was not for Ahle Bait (A) He would not create the skies and the earth and everything that is in between them. We read in "Ziyarat e 'Ashura" which is a Hadith e Qudsi:

"O my Allah, let the curse I call down on the head of the first tyrant stick like a leech; and stay put for ever on the first, then the second, the third and the fourth (Muawiyah), O my Allah curse and call down evil on the fifth, Yazid son of Mua'awyah, and bring a curse upon Ubaydullah son of Ziyaad, ibna Marjanah, Umar son of Sa'ad, and Shimr, and on the descendants of Abu Sufyaan, on the descendants of Ziyaad, on the descendants of Marwaan, till the Day of judgement."

It is narrated in 'Mafatih ul-Jinan' that late Seyyed Ahmad bin Seyyed Hashem bin Seyyed Hasan Mousavi Rashti (May Allah evelate his status) lost his companions on his way to Hajj when he had the honor of meeting with Imam Mahdi (A), who told him to say his night prayers in order to find the way, so he did. Imam told him to recite ‘Ziyarat Jami'a Kabira’, and he did. After that, Imam said that he should recite the ‘Ziyarat Ashura’, and he did. Then, Imam helped him sit on a horse and said, “Why don’t you recite ‘Ashura’? Ashura… Ashura…”‌ and repeated it three times and then He said: “Why don’t you recite ‘Ziyarat Jami'ah? Jami'ah… Jami'ah…" and He repeated it three times.

Reciting Ziyarat 'Ashura is one of the recommended acts of Imam ul-Asr wal-Zaman (Arwahuna Lah-ul-Fida) and the great ulama and mujtahids recited it and we as Shias should never abandon this act. This is a very important Ziayrat and when Angels and Prophets ask Allah to give them permission to visit the grave of Sayyiduna Aba Abdillah (A) every Thursday Night, they recite 'Ziyarat Ashura'.

Is it okay to curse ma3iwyia (la) and yazaid (la), in your view?

Op there isint much sunnis here you should ask it on a sunni form, am sure they will say what a kafar, how dare you curse, give him the death penalty now...

Narrated Sa'd Ibn Abi Waqqas:

Muawiyah, the son of Abu Sufyan, give order to Sa'd, and told him:

"What prevents you that you are refraining from cursing Abu Turab

(nickname of Ali)?" (Quoted from Sahih Muslim)

So how about this order coming from a Companion to curse another companion? So are you saying that you have more virtue than this companion?

Maybe difference of opinion. They're big sinner or the strongest one most of the sunnis follow is yes, you're a kaafir if you curse the sahaba [Ra]

That's why I would rather have shias use taqiyyah when around sunnis [which they do] .. no one wants their role models to be insulted just like how you wouldn't want anyone to insult Hussian, Hassan & Ali [Ra].

its a sin? What are they? gods?

I've heard shias calling some sunnis munafiqs and kafirs for being loyal to the sahaba [ra].. and not ahlul bait, are they gods? You should see how you people sound, you talk about sunnis worshiping the sahaba [Ra] but shias don't realize it looks like they worship ahlul bait [ra] themselves, hitting themselves and doing some weird things just for 'love' .. we don't go to the same extant as shias for love, so are they really our gods than?

yes sister, I def. agree with you on the part where we must respect one another's personalities. However, if your caught crossing a line, ie. loving mawiya or yazid, then my nafs tells me to say something to help show you the truth. Wa salaam

*I just wanna add, the thing that confuses us shias is you consider those "companions" whom hated and acted against the ahlulbayt, with them. This is what ticks shias off. As I explained before, you cannot love someone and love that persons enemy as well, it is hypocrisy.

The only reason why I asked are they gods, because you guys think they all are infallible. If we say abu baker hated ali, you say no way! or this sahaba did that, no way! But at the same time you say they were wrong countless times, and made many mistakes, even then it is okay. How far are you willing to take them? You make their position higher than the prophet, ie. Umar would have been a prophet if Muhammad A.S wasnt chosen.... Yes sister, we hit ourselves and that is our love. We hit ourselves because we were not there to protect them. Just as I would hit myself if someone I loved died. Its how I express myself. Besides, I have never heard of worshiping by hitting oneself.

A loaded statement here. Which shia is that? if its a simple layman then there is 0% impact on us, can you quote any of our Maraji'?

Our Prophet (saw) reminded the Muslims thrice about Ahlul Bayt and both Ahlul Bayt and Quran (Kitab wa Itrat) as khilafatyn and two weighty things. That is the gravity of importance, Quran and obedience to Ahlul Bayt has been equated by the Prophet (saw) himself, we give importance to the words of our Prophet (saw).

The Quran also calls & commands for Muawadah (love) for his Ahlul Bayt, so is the Quran wrong? The Quran never set limits for love for our Prophet and his Aal (saw)

your scholars issued fatwas that those who insult the companions (even constructive criticism) as Kufr without producing any valid authority even to the extent of the proofs that i have presented to you here

Ok fine. If that is the case, then what position should we hold on 'amr Bin Hamk(ra) whom you consider also to be a prominent Sahabi but was responsible for the killing of Uthman bin Affan or Khalid bin Walid for murdering Malik bin Nauwria(ra) whom he and his tribe were massacred by the order of Abu Bakr because they refused to recognize him as a caliph during the Ridda campaigns?

I think we can both agree that killing a believer is worse than insulting them.

This is era of technology and communications and the era of spreading the merits of Ahle Bayt (A) and defending their absolute rights.

It is not the time for Taqiyyah. at this time the Shias are encouraged to spread the truth by all means (Internet, TV, Radio, Telephone, etc.)

One more time: Cursing the Enemies of Ahle Bayt (A), especially cursing the killer of Hazrat Zahra (S) is of Wajibat of Shi'ism that cannot be abandoned or changed by time, place, or circumstance. Imam al-Askari (A) said: "We (the Imams) are Hujjat Allah on his creation, and our Mother fatima (S) is Hujjat on us."

Now go think about this Hadith and find out what it means to be Hujjat on Hujjat Allah!

I had posted the following discussion in one of the other SC boards as well and i am copying it from there. Simply put NO we dont and here is the proof from SUNNIS:-

"As i have mentioned before in one of my other posts as well, i  donot consider an average Sunni to be Kafir not do majority of our ulemah, that is because they are NOT, they are Muslims since they are beleivers in oneness of Allah and Nabooyat of his Nabi (pbuh). Majority of them donot know what actually happend to Ahle Bayt (PBUT). They are taught to respect Sahaba and they respect them similar to way we are taught to respect Ahle Bayt (PBUT) and we do.

My issue is with Nasibis - offshoot of Sunnis - because i consider them pure hypocrites. These are those who knowingly prop up the oppressors and murderors of Ahle Bayt (PBUT), defend their actions while claiming to be loving Ahle Bayt (PBUT) as well. How can you love Muawiayah and Ali (KAW) same way? Muawiay wanted Ali (KAWs) head in platter, while our Nabi (pbuh) testified with his own words about the Imaan of Ali (KAW), when he said at Khandaq (loosely translated) - I will present the flag to the one who is loved by Allah and his Prophet and who loves Allah and his Prophet. We tend the overlook at the importance of these words. Nabi (pbuh) himself is witness to the love Ali (KAW) has for him and Allah.

Furthermore how can you support both just and unjust? How can you be on the side of the rapist and the victim? Its illogical and silly to claim loyalty to both Muwaiyah and Ali (KAW). But now we are witnessing mutation in Nasibis called Takfiris. The disease has become catastrophic and mutation is non reversable. These Takfiris consider us Kafir for speaking up the truth about the treatment of Ahle Bayt (PBUT) and i am not talking about the misguided Shia among us who curse and curse and insult upto the extend that the truth they want to portray is simply not acceptable to, even a logical brain. Allah clearly commands us to spred the truth with logic and wisdom, there is no logic and wisdom in cursing, offending, bad mouthing. We always had these Takfiris among us, people of Kufa might have abandoned Imam Hussain (pbuh) but the swords that actually fell and cut him into pieces were not Kufan but Takfiris hiding as Sunnis ordered to do so by Yazeed e Laeen.

My following post is for them and for Sunnis, Oh Sunnis listen what your Ulemah have preached about Takfir.

- Fatwa of Umar Ibn Abdul Aziz

Umar bin Abdulaziz’s letter to his representative in Kufa in response to his inquiry as to whether he should kill someone who has abused Umar (ra)? He (Umar bin Abdul Aziz) replied to him: “It is not allowed to kill any Muslim due to abusing any person, except in case of abusing Rasool Allah (s). Thus, if anyone abused him (Allah’s apostle) then his blood is Mubah”.

2. Slalah al-Risalah Mulla Ali Qari, page 18, published in Jordan
3. Al-Tabaqaatul Kubraa, vol. 5, page 369, published in Bairut.

- Fatwa of Imam Malik

According to Imam Malik, “Anyone who abused Rasool Allah (s) should be killed. And anyone who abused Sahaba, he should be taught Adab (respect)”.

2. Al-Sarim al-Maslool, page 569, with reference to Defence of Abu Huraira, page 26, published in Peshawar, Pakistan

Supporting Imam Maliks fiqh, Mulla Barkhurdar Multani, the mentor of Sharh Nabras writes: “The famous madhab of Imam Malik is this that there is Ijtehaad in it. Thus, the person must be taught Adab”

1. Nabras Ala-Sharh Al-Aqaeed, page 550, footnote No. 4, published in Meraith, India.

- Fatwa Imam Mohiyyduddin Al Nawwawi Al Shafiyee:

Imam Mohiyyuddin Al-Nawwawi Al-Shafi’yee writes:

قال القاضي وسب أحدهم من المعاصي الكبار ومذهبنا ومذهب الجمهور انه يعزر ولا يقتل

“Qadhi (Ayadh) said, that abusing someone of them (sahab) is a great sin, our sect and the majority’s sect is that he should be punished but not killed”

3. Al-Nawwawi, Sharh Sahih Muslim, vol. 2, page 310, published in Delhi

- Fatwa Mulla Ali Qari (Hanafi fiqh)

According to him, “It is neither proved by Sahaba nor Tabaeen to kill a person or declare him kafir who insults Abu Bakr and Umar. And the 3 Imams i.e. Imam Abu Hanifa, Imam Muhammad and Imam Abu Yousuf are unanimous that a person who insults Sheikhain (Abu Bakr and Umar) is neither Kafir nor Wajib-ul-Qatl. According to Imam Abu Hanifa and Imam Abu Yousuf, even the witness of such a person is acceptable.

1. Silalatul Risalah, page 19, published in Jordan

Further more, In order to more clarify this fact, Mullah Ali Qari writes in “Sharah Fiqh Akbar”:

“Then again from the opinion of Imam Abu Hanifa that Ahle Qibla, even if he is Ahle Bidah (innovator) doesn’t become Kafir due to his sins, it proves that no one becomes Kafir merely by abusing Abu Bakr and Umar. To abuse Abu Bakr and Umar is NOT Kufr, as Abdus Shakur asSalimi has correctly proved in his book, at Tamhid. And it is becuase the basis of this claim (claim that reviling the Shaykhan is kufr) is not proven, nor its meaning is confirmed.

It is so because certainly abusing a Muslim is fisq (sin) as is proved by a confirmed hadith, and therefore the Shaykhan(Abu Bakr and Umar) will be equal to the other (Muslims) in this rule; and also if we suppose that some one murdered the Shaykhan, and even the two sons in law (Ali and Usman), all of them together, even then according to Ahlussunnah wa al-Jamah, he will not go out of Islam (i.e will not become kafir)

1.Sharah Fiqah Akbar, page 86, printed in Matba Qayyumi, Kanpur India

- Fatwa Ibn Abdeen

Imam of Ahle Sunnah Ibn Abdeen wrote in Hashyat Rad al-Muhtar, Volume 3 page 50:

إذا كان يفضل علياً أو يسب الصحابة فإنه مبتدع لا كافر

“If he prefers Ali or curses the Sahaba, he is an innovator but not Kafir” Compare his above fatwah to the fact that he ruled that whoever believed that the world has no beginning is a Kafir, (meaning thereby that Ibn Taymia was a kafir). We read in Hashyat Rad al-Muhtar, Volume 3 page 49

الحق عدم تكفير أهل القبلة وإن وقع إلزاما في المباحث بخلاف من خالف القواطع المعلومة بالضرورة من الدين مثل القائل بقدم العالم

The correct view is not to issue takfir against the people of the Qibla even if they indulge in wrong statements, unless if they oppose a certain issues of religion such as saying that the world has no beginning.

- Fatwa Abdul Ali Muhammad Sahalwi al-Ansari al-Lucknawi

Allamah Abdul Ali Muhammad Sahalwi al-Ansari al-Lucknawi in his authority work Fawateh al-Rehmut Ba-Sharah Musalam Al-Sabut, Volume 2 page 243:

فان الصحيح عند الحنفية أنهم ليسوا بكفار

“According to the Hanafis they (Rawafidh) are not kafir”

- Fatwa Imam Hafidh Ibn Taymiyyah al-Damishqi

Imam Ibne Taymiyyah (Sheikul-ul-Islam of Salafies) wrote in his book , while giving arguments against Kufr of person who insulted Sahaba:

ومطلق السب لغير الأنبياء لا يستلزم الكفر لأن بعض من كان على عهد النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم كان ربما سب بعضهم بعضا ولم يكفر أحدا بذلك ولأن أشخاص الصحابة لا يجب الإيمان بهم بأعيانهم فسب الواحد لا يقدح في الإيمان بالله وملائكته وكتبه ورسله واليوم الآخر

“And merely abusing some one other than the Prophets does not necessarily make the abuser Kafir; because some of those who were in the time of the Prophet (i.e companions) used to abuse one another and none of them was declared kafir because of this (practice); and (also) because it is not Wajib to have faith particularly in any of the companions; therefore abusing any of them does not detract from the faith in Allah and His books and His messengers and the Last day”

1. Al-Sarimul Maslool, page 579 (first pulished by Taba Sa’ada Egypt)

- Fatwa Allamah Ibn Hajar al-Makki al-Hathaimi

The famous Muhaddith from Egypt Allama Shahabuddin Ahmad bin Hajar al-Haithami writes:

“And I haven’t found any opinion of any learned Alim that abusing a companion makes it obligatory to kill a person And Ibn Mundhir says that I don’t know even a single person who considers it to kill the one who abuses anyone except Rasool Allah (saww).”

1. Sawiq-e-Muhariqqah, page 255, Taba Maktaba al-Qahira, Egypt

- Fatwa Allamah Allauddin al-Haskafi al-Hanafi

The famous Imam of Fiqah Hanafi Allamah Muhammad Allauddin al-Haskafi writes in his book “Darul Mukhtar, chapter of Immamat, page 72, published in Delhi, India:

“And all the people, who pray while facing to Qibla, they are not Kafirs. Even the Kharijeen are also not Kafir, although they thought our lives and properties “Halal” for them.

And those people, who think it is allowed to curse companions (due to their wrong-doings)and (those who) deny the attributes of Allah (swt) and deny that Allah can be seen, these people are not Kaffir, while this belief is held by them due to their “Taweel” and “Doubt”.

One of the reason of their not being Kaffir is this that their witness is commonly accepted (among Muslims).

- Fatwa Allamah Abdul Hai Lakhnawi

A very famous Hanafi Fiqhi Alim from Indian Sub-Continent Allah Abdul Hai Lakhnawi states while giving an answer to a qestion:

“According to Fatawas, the most correct statement is this that Shias are not Kaffir. And abusing Abu Bakr and Umar doesn’t constitute Kufr. And it is the fatwa of Imam Abu Hanifa.”

He further writes with reference to the book “Al-tamheed fi Biyan al-Tauheed” by Abu Shakoor Salimi:

“And this statement of shias that Ali (as) is better than Sheikhain is only a “Bidah”(innovation) but doesn’t constitute Kufr. And some of shias say that it is obligatory to send “Lanah”(cursing) upon opponents of Ali (as) like Hadhrat ‘Aisha and Ameer Muawiyyah, it is also a “Bidah”, because they came to conclusion due to their “Taweel”. The summary of all this is this that it is totally against the “Madhab” of researchers to label shias as Kufir while they curse Sahaba.”

Maulana Rasheed Ahmad Gangohi is considered as one of the most respectable Ulama of Deoband. He was asked a question if a person, who says “Mardood” and “Malaoon” to Sahaba, will go out of the pale of Ahle-Sunnah wa Al-Jammah due to this “Greater Sin” (Gunah-e-Kabira)?

His replied:

“He will not go out of pale of Ahle Sunnah wa Al-Jammah due to this “Greater Sin”.

- Fatwa Maulana Muhammad Rafique Athri

He is a Mudaris of Darul-Hadith Muhammadia, Jalalpur Pairowala, district Multan, Pakistan. He wrotes:

“The most correct opinion is this that ONLY that person can be killed who abuses Rasool Allah (saww). A person asked Abu Bakr for his permission to kill another person who criticized Abu Bakr. But Abu Bakr said: “No one has the right to kill anyone unjustly after Rasool Allah (saww) only due to his criticism on him.

“I say that the one who started cursing and abusing, and the one who started in answer to this, both of them started a very bad thing. And whoever does it today, he does a very bad thing. But neither this crime is equal to “Revolt”, nor killing is it’s punishment. Some of the Ulama of Salaf were convinced that punishment of abusing Rasool Allah (saww) is killing, but except Rasool Allah (saww) talking bad about others or abusing them never punished by killing in Islam.

Cursing the Enemies of Ahle Bayt (A) even if they are Sahaba or Wife of Prophet (S) is not only forbidden but its the best act of worship and it is highly recommended by Imams (A) and prominent fuqaha of past and present.

As for Umaris; First prove the "Iman" and "Justice" of Idols of Quraysh and their Daughters before even going to Aqeeda. The onus is on you to prove that they believed in Holy Prophet (S) and His Message, that they did not oppose the Holy Prophet (S) during His lifetime, that they did not made Prophet (S) angry, that they did not question the His prophethood, that they did not run from the Battlefields, that they really followed the words of Holy Prophet (S) after His Martyrdom, and that they did not usurp and violate the rights of Ahle Bayt (A), and that they did not Attack the House of Revelation and did not kill the Leader of the women of both worlds Hadhrat Fatima (S), Once these have been proved then we can discuss Islamic Aqeeda and Beliefs.

- Fatwa of Imam Malik

According to Imam Malik, “Anyone who abused Rasool Allah (s) should be killed. And anyone who abused Sahaba, he should be taught Adab (respect)”.

And those people, who think it is allowed to curse companions (due to their wrong-doings)and (those who) deny the attributes of Allah ÓÈÍÇäå æÊÚÇáì and deny that Allah can be seen, these people are not Kaffir, while this belief is held by them due to their “Taweel” and “Doubt”.

This is an eye opening collection. Sunni  always say that it is kufr to describe the immoral actions of companions or curse them. But these evidence prove this is a false statement. What sunni present is nothing but try to save their so called gods.

Salaam.

And yet whenever the Malaysia's religious authority refer to us Malaysian Syiahs as deviants, they said because we insult the companions.

Its like 2nd part of shahadah is not declaring the testimony that Muhammad SAAW is Rasulullah but actually state "those who insulted the companions are deviants".

That is Malaysia's religious authority for you!

And recently the political party professing to fight for Islam in Malaysia stated that it respects but cannot let free propogation of syiah beliefs. But this party nowadays defends the Malay Sultanate like dunno what.

Really. PAS is in the past.

Thus we might as well call this idiotic-syncracity and see how it unfolds..

Wassalam.

Finally, if one who abuses the sahaba is an infidel, why did Caliph Abu
Bakr, in the presence of sahaba and a gathering of Muslims, abuse the
most exalted sahabi, Ali Bin Abi Talib? You praise the merits of Abu
Bakr although you should condemn him

Excuse me! We do not report anything until we have
made complete inquiries. Perhaps you should consult Sharhe Nahju'lBalagha, Volume IV, page 80, where it is recorded that Abu Bakr, taunting Ali from the pulpit of the mosque, said: "He (Ali) is a fox, the evidence of which is its tail. He creates disturbances, minimizes the importance of big disturbances, and incites people to make an uproar. He seeks
help from the weak and accepts assistance from women. He is like
Ummi't-Tahal (an adulteress in the days of ignorance, as explained by
Ibn Abi'l-Hadid) with whom the men of his family were fond of committing adultery."
Now you may compare Abu Bakr's abuse of Ali with the criticism
made by Shias against the sahaba. If abusing any of the sahaba amounts
to infidelity, then Abu Bakr, his daughter, A'yesha, Mu'awiya and his
followers should be labelled infidels. If it does not constitute infidelity,
then you cannot call the Shias infidels on that score.
CALIPH UMAR HELD THAT CURSING A
MUSLIM IS NOT INFIDELITY
Moreover, according to the verdicts of your own great jurists and Caliphs, those who curse the Caliphs are not infidels. Imam Ahmad Hanbal
in his Musnad, Volume III, Ibn Sa'd Katib in his Kitab-e-Tabaqat, Qazi
Ayaz in his Shifa, part IV of chapter 1, report that the governor of Caliph
Umar, Ibn Abdu'l-Aziz, wrote from Kufa that a man had reviled and abused Umar Ibn Khattab, the second Caliph. The governor sought permission to execute the man. Umar Ibn Khattab replied that it was not permissible to take the life of a Muslim for abusing or cursing any Muslim
excepting one who abuses the Prophet.
ACCORDING TO ABU'L-HASAN ASH'ARI
EVEN CALLING Allah OR HOLY PROPHET
Some of your prominent ulema, like, Abu'l-Hasan Ash'ari and his followers, believe that if a man has faith in his heart and yet displays infidelity (by practicing Judaism or Christianity, for example) or rises up to
342fight against the Prophet, or calls Allah or the Prophet evil names, even
then he is not an infidel. Faith means belief in the heart and since no one
can be aware of another's heart, it cannot be said whether the apparent
infidelity was from the heart or not. The Ash'ari ulema have also discussed these issues in their books. Ibn Hazm Andalusi has written in detail about these points in his Kitabu'l-Fazl (Part IV, page 204, 206). In
light of these facts what right have you to charge the Shias with
infidelity?
MOST COMPANIONS ABUSED ONE ANOTHER
BUT NOT REGARDED AS INFIDELS
In your authentic books, like Musnad of Ahmad Hanbal, Volume II,
page 236; Sirat-e-Halabiyya, Volume II, page 107, Sahih Bukhari, Volume
II, page 74, Sahih Muslim, Kitab-e-Jihad wa Asbabu'n-Nuzul Wahidi,
page 118, there are many hadith indicating that most of the companions
abused each other in the presence of the Holy Prophet. But the Prophet
didn't call these men infidels. He admonished them. (The narrations
about these quarrels and mutual enmity are recorded only in the books
of the Sunnis, not in Shia books). In view of these remarks, I hope that
you are satisfied that cursing or abusing any companion does not constitute infidelity. If we curse someone without any reason, we will be
sinners, not infidels. And every sin is forgivable.
HOLY PROPHET OF ISLAM KNEW ALL
GOOD AND BAD ACTIONS OF SAHABA
Second, you said that the Prophet respected and honored his companions. This is correct. In addition, all Muslims and men of learning agree
that the Holy Prophet knew the good and bad actions of the people. He
appreciated their good deeds. Accordingly, he esteemed Nushirwan's
justice and Hatim Ta'i's munificence. If he respected someone, it was for
his good deeds. But appreciation shown to one for doing a good deed,
does not prove that his end will be fortunate. Perhaps he will commit
evil deeds in the future. If he does, upbraiding him beforehand, is unjustified, even though it may be known that he will commit the sin in the
future. Ali knew of the sin and damned end of Abdu'r-Rahman Ibn
Muljim Muradi and repeatedly told him that he was his assassin. At one
point he explicitly said: "I want him to live, but he is bent upon killing
me, and this treacherous friend belongs to the clan of the Murad." This
statement has been recorded by Ibn Hajar Makki towards the end of Part
I of Sawa'iq, page 72. Yet Ali did not intend to punish him. Hence, the
hadith which indicates that the merit of some particular action or statement is not necessarily influential for all time to come.

Q: ARE THE COMPANIONS Infailble????

You claim too much if you insist that they were all just
and free from faults since in the authentic books written by your own
ulema they argue against it. They tell us that even some of the chief companions sometimes committed faults
: Ignoring what they did during the days of ignorance (i.e.
before the advent of Islam), they committed many sins after they had
embraced Islam. It is enough to mention only one event by way of
example.
Your own prominent ulema write in their authentic books that in the
year of the conquest of Mecca (8 A.H.) some of the leading companions
indulged in festive amusements and gaiety and secretly took wine.

Ibn Hajar writes in his Fathu'l-Bari, v.X, p.30, that Abu Talha Zaid Bin
Sahl arranged a wine party at his house and invited ten people. All of
them drank wine and Abu Bakr recited some couplets commemorating
some infidels who were killed in the battle of Badr.

the names of the guests also been mentioned:
(1) Abu Bakr Bin Abi Qahafa, (2) Umar Ibn Khattab, (3)
Abu Ubaida Garra, (4) Ubai Bin Ka'b, (5) Sahl Bin Baiza, (6) Abu Ayyub
Ansari, (7) Abu Talha (the host), (8) Abu Dajjana Samak Bin Kharsa, (9)
Abu Bakr Bin Shaghuls, (10) Anas Bin Malik, who was 18 years old at
that time and who served the wine. Baihaqi in his Sunan, v. VIII, p.29,
has also narrated from Anas him self that he said that he was the youngest of them at that time and was serving the wine. (At this there was
great commotion in the meeting.)

You are too much agitated and you have made a profane
oath! But you are not totally at fault. Your studies are limited. If you had
read more widely, you would know that your own ulema have written
all this. Now you should seek Allah's pardon.
I am now constrained to explain facts according to the statements of
your own ulema. Muhammad Bin Isma'il Bukhari in Sahih (commenting
on Ayat-e-Khamr, "verse concerning wine", in the chapter Ma'ida of the
Qur'an); Muslim Ibn Hajar in his Sahih (Kitab-e-Ashraba Bab-eTahrimu'l-Khamr); Imam Ahmad Bin Hanbal in his Musnad, v.XXX,
p.181 and 227; Ibn Kathir in his Tafsir, v.XI, p.93; Jalalu'd-din Suyuti in
his Durru'l-Mansur, v.II, p.321; Tabari in his Tafsir, v.VII, p.24; Ibn Hajar
Asqalani in his Isaba, v.IV, p.22 and Fathu'l-Bari, v.X,p.30; Badru'd-din
Hanafi in his Umdatu'l-Qari, V.X, p.84; Baihaqi in his Sunan, pp.286 and
290; and others have recorded these facts with detailed explanations.

What we gather from the commentary and history shows
that even after the prohibitory verses some Muslims and companions
continued taking forbidden wine.
Muhammad Bin Jarir Tabari reports in Tafsir-e-Kabir, v.II, p.203, on
the authority of Abil Qamus Zaid Bin Ali, who said that Allah had
357revealed three times the verses prohibiting the use of wine. In the first
verse He says, "They ask you about intoxicants and games of chance.
Say: In both of them there is a great sin and means of profit for men, and
their sin is greater than their profit." (2:219)
But the Muslims did not immediately give up wine. When two men,
being intoxicated, offered their prayers and talked nonsense, another
verse was revealed, saying: "O you who believe! do not go near prayer
when you are intoxicated until you know (well) what you say." (4:43)
Even after this, the drinking of wine continued, but people did not offer prayers while intoxicated. One day a man took wine (according to the
report of Bazar, Ibn Hajar, and Ibn Mardawiyya the man was Abu Bakr)
and composed an elegy for the pagans who were killed in the battle of
Badr. When the Holy Prophet heard of this, he became angry. He went to
the party and wanted to beat him. The man said, "I seek Allah's shelter
from Allah's and His Prophet's wrath. Allah be my witness, I will not
take wine again." Then the following verse was revealed: "O you who believe! intoxicants and games of chance and (sacrificing to) stones set up
and (divination by) arrows are only an uncleanness, the Shaitan's work;
shun it therefore that you may be successful." (5:90)
Among the companions of the Holy Prophet there were good and bad
men just as there are among other believers and Muslims. Those of them
who tried to obey Allah and His Prophet reached an exalted rank. Those
who followed their worldly aspirations were looked down upon by others. So those who fault the worldly companions do so with some reason.
The wicked actions of some of the sahaba which are recorded in the authentic books of your own ulema are also condemnable according to the
evidence of the Holy Qur'an. The Shias condemn them on that basis. If
there is a logical reply to this argument, we are ready to accept it.

Whats funny is this.

Shia "insulting" sahaba when they expose their history = Bad!

Exhuming their graves, destroying the shrine of the holy Prophet, looting ka'ba, demolishing jannat al baqee', burning graves of (Bani Hashim) sahaba (like Ja'far At-Tayyar) = Good!

"Wallahu 'Aalim"!~ :D

Yeah seems they all got beat with the stupid stick.

Assalamu alaykum wa rehmatullahe wabarakatuhu!

Well, if someone becomes kafir by cursing the sahaba, I would say many sahabas were kafirs!! Beacuse they cursed each other, imagine sahabas cursing each other, meaning that both of them became kafirs and were no more sahabas. This can be very well proved from the well known and authentic sunni sources.

I hope the sunni brothers believe that Hadhrat Ali(ra) was amongst the sahabas and even according to them caliph Muaviya was one.

As an example i would like to mention some of the incidents relating to the topic:

Sahaba who have cursed each others.

1) Mullah Ali Qari has said that Abu Hanifa has cursed the Amraw ibne Ubaid .

Ref:     Sharh Fiqh Akber  Pg 43.

2) Uthman refrained to give Aisha any money by reminding her that she was one of those who testified and encouraged Abu-Bakr to refrain to pay the share of inheritance of Fatimah (as). So if Fatimah does not have any share of inheritance, then why should she? Aisha became extremely angry at Uthman, and came out saying:

"Kill this old fool (Na'thal), for he is unbeliever."

Sunni references:

- History of Ibn Athir, v3, p206

- Lisan al-Arab, v14, p141

- al-Iqd al-Farid, v4, p290

- Sharh Ibn Abi al-Hadid, v16, pp 220-223

3) Abu Bakr, taunting Ali from the pulpit of the mosque, said: "He (Ali) is a fox, the evidence of which is its tail. He creates disturbances, minimizes the importance of big disturbances, and incites people to make an uproar. He seeks help from the weak and accepts assistance from women. He is like Ummi't-Tahal (an adulteress in the days of ignorance, as explained by Ibn Abi'l-Hadid) with whom the men of his family were fond of committing adultery,."

Ref :    Sharhe Nahju'l-Balagha, Volume IV, page 80.

Muawiyah Instituting the curse of Imam Ali (as)

Muawiyah not only fought Imam Ali, he cursed Imam Ali as well. Furthermore, he did force/make everybody to curse Ali (as). To prove it, we begin with Sahih Muslim:

4) Narrated Sa'd Ibn Abi Waqqas:

Muawiyah, the son of Abu Sufyan, give order to Sa'd, and told him:

"What prevents you that you are refraining from cursing Abu Turab (nickname of Ali)?" Sa'd replied: "Don't you remember that the Prophet said three things about (the virtue of) Ali? So I will never curse Ali."

Reference: Sahih Muslim, Chapter of Virtues of Companions, Section of virtues of Ali, Arabic, v4, p1871, Tradition  No 32.

For the English version of Sahih Muslim, see Chapter CMXCVI, p1284,Tradition No 5916

The above tradition, by the way, indicates that Muawiyah was surprised why Sa'd does not follow his order of cursing Ali, like others do. This shows that cursing Ali was a habit (Sunnah) for people at that time.  Who made this Sunnah?  Was it Ali, or those who fought him? Now, who fought against Ali?  Wasn't he Muawiyah? So this implies that Muawiyah did innovate that habit (cursing Ali as Sunnah).

5) It is narrated on the authority of Abu Hazim that:

The Governor of Medina who was one of the members of the house of Marwan called Sahl Ibn Sa'd, and ordered him to curse Ali but Sahl refused to do so. The governor said: "If you don't want to curse Ali, just say God curse Abu Turab (the nickname of Ali)." Sahl said: "Ali did not like any name for himself better than Abu Turab, and Ali used to become very happy when somebody would call him Abu Turab."

6) Cursing Imam Ali (as) was an order from the beginning of Muawiyah's reign for 65 years. He was Umar Ibn Abdil Aziz (may Allah be easy with him) who canceled this order after more than half a century. Some historians even believe that the Umayyah descendants themselves killed (poisoned) Umar Ibn Abdil Aziz, because he changed their Sunnah, one of which was cursing Ali.

Ref : Sunni book entitled "History of the Saracens," by Amir Ali, Chapter X, pg 126-127.

7) One of the ugliest innovations that started during the reign of Muawiyah was that Muawiyah himself, and through his order to his Governors, they used to insult Imam Ali (as) during the Sermons in the Mosques. This was even done on the pulpit of the mosque of the Prophet in Medina in front of the grave of the Prophet Muhammad (May Allah bless him and his Progeny),so that even the dearest Companions of the Prophet Õáì Çááå Úáíå æÂáå, and Imam Ali (as), his family and his near relatives used to hear these swears with their ears.

8) On insulting Ali Ibn Abi Talib and cursing him during the Umayah period starting in Muawiyah's reign, it is reported that:

"Ali Ibn Abi Talib (as) was cursed on the pulpits (manabir) of the east and west...", during the time of Muawiyah.

9)Umme Salama(swt), the wife of the Prophet Õáì Çááå Úáíå æÂáå wrote to Muawiyah: "...You are cursing Allah and His messenger on your minbar, and that is because you are cursing Ali Ibn Abi Talib and whomever loves him, and I am a witness that Allah and His messenger loved him." But no one paid any attention to what she said.

11) After his death, Muawiyah the son of Yazid, gathered the people on a well known day, he stood in them preaching, he said:

"My grandfather Muawiyah stripped the command from those who deserved it, and from one who is more justified of it, for his relation to the Messenger of Allah and his being first in Islam, and that is Ali Ibn Abi Talib, he (Muawiyah) took over it by your help as you are fully  aware."

"Then following it my father Yazid wore the command after him, and he did not deserve it. He quarreled with the son of the daughter of the Messenger of Allah, and by that he shortened his own life... He rode his whim and hope left him behind." Then he cried and continued:

"Surely, the greatest problems of us is our knowledge of his bad behavior and his awful ending, and that he killed the progeny (Itrah) of the Messenger of Allah, and he permitted drinking alcohol, and he fought in the sanctuary of Mecca, and destroyed the Ka'ba."

"And I am not the one who is dressing up for your command, nor the one to be responsible for your followers... You choose for yourselves..!!"

12) It is reported from Abdullah, son of Ahmad Ibn Hanbal said:

I asked my father about Ali and Muawiyah. He (Ahmad Ibn Hanbal) answered: "Know that Ali had a lot of enemies who tried hard to find a fault in him, but they found it not. As such, they joined a man (i.e.Muawiyah) who verily fought him battled him, and they praised him (Muawiyah) extravagantly setting a snare for themselves for him.

13) al-Tabari reported:

When Muawiyah Ibn Abi Sufyan put al-Mughairah Ibn Shubah in charge of Kufah in Jumada 41 (September 2- October 30, 661), he summoned him.

After praising and glorifying God, he said:

"Now then, indeed a forbearing person has been admonished in the  past... The wise might do what you want without instruction. Although I have wanted to advise you about many things, I left them alone, trusting in your discernment of what pleases me, what helps my regime      and what sets my subjects [raiyyah] on the right path. I would continue to advise you about a quality of yours- do not refrain from abusing Ali and criticizing him, not from asking God's mercy upon  Uthman and His forgiveness for him. Continue to shame the companions of Ali, keep at a distance, and don't listen to them. Praise the faction of Uthman, bring them near, and listen to them."

14) The Messenger of Muawiyah then came to them with orders to release six and to kill eight, telling them:

We have been ordered to let you disavow Ali and curse him. If you do so, we shall release you, and if you refuse, we shall kill you.

 15) Holy Prophet(SAWA) said: "Whoever curses (or verbally abuses) Ali, he has, in fact, cursed me, and whoever has cursed me, he has cursed Allah, and whoever has cursed Allah, then Allah will throw him into the Hell-fire."

Thus Muawiyah and his associates were, in fact, cursing the Prophet(sawa), and by cursing the Prophet, they were cursing Allah ÓÈÍÇäå æÊÚÇáì, and by cursing Allah, they shall enter the hellfire!  By Allah, they will be asked to account for what they've said!  That is a promise by Allah ÓÈÍÇäå æÊÚÇáì which He shall not break!

Incidents of Sahaba cursing & abusing

each other

(i) Some Incidents from Sahih Bukhari

Narrated ‘Urwa from ‘Aisha:

The wives of Allah’s Apostle were in two groups. One group consisted of ‘Aisha, Hafsa, Safiyya and Sauda; and the other group consisted of Um Salama and the other wives of Allah’s Apostle. The Muslims knew that Allah’s Apostle loved ‘Aisha, so if any of them had a gift and wished to give to Allah’s Apostle, he would delay it, till Allah’s Apostle had come to ‘Aisha’s home and then he would send his gift to Allah’s Apostle in her home. The group of Um Salama discussed the matter together and decided that Um Salama should request Allah’s Apostle to tell the people to send their gifts to him in whatever wife’s house he was. Um Salama told Allah’s Apostle of what they had said, but he did not reply. Then they (those wives) asked Um Salama about it. She said, “He did not say anything to me.” They asked her to talk to him again. She talked to him again when she met him on her day, but he gave no reply. When they asked her, she replied that he had given no reply. They said to her, “Talk to him till he gives you a reply.” When it was her turn, she talked to him again. He then said to her, “Do not hurt me regarding Aisha, as the Divine Inspirations do not come to me on any of the beds except that of Aisha.” On that Um Salama said, “I repent to Allah for hurting you.” Then the group of Um Salama called Fatima, the daughter of Allah’s Apostle and sent her to Allah’s Apostle to say to him, “Your wives request to treat them and the daughter of Abu Bakr on equal terms.” Then Fatima conveyed the message to him. The Prophet said, “O my daughter! Don’t you love whom I love?” She replied in the affirmative and returned and told them of the situation. They requested her to go to him again but she refused. They then sent Zainab bint Jahsh who went to him and used harsh words saying, “Your wives request you to treat them and the daughter of Ibn Abu Quhafa on equal terms.” On that she raised her voice and abused ‘Aisha to her face so much so that Allah’s Apostle looked at ‘Aisha to see whether she would retort. ‘Aisha started replying to Zainab till she silenced her. The Prophet then looked at ‘Aisha and said, “She is really the daughter of Abu Bakr.”
Sahih Bukhari, Volume 3, Book 47, Number 755

Narrated Abu Salih As-Samman:

I saw Abu Said Al-Khudri praying on a Friday, behind something which acted as a Sutra. A young man from Bani Abi Mu’ait, wanted to pass in front of him, but Abu Said repulsed him with a push on his chest. Finding no alternative he again tried to pass but Abu Said pushed him with a greater force. The young man (a Tabai) abused Abu Said(a Sahabi) and went to Marwan and lodged a complaint against Abu Said and Abu Said followed the young man to Marwan who asked him, “O Abu Said! What has happened between you and the son of your brother?” Abu Sa’id said to him, “I heard the Prophet saying, ‘If anybody amongst you is praying behind something as a Sutra and somebody tries to pass in front of him, then he should repulse him and if he refuses, he should use force against him for he is a satan.’”
Sahih Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 9, Number 488

Note: The word of “Tabai” in above parenthesis i.e. in (The young man (a Tabai) abused Abu Said) are not ours but of Salafi Translator of Sahih Bukhari Mohsin Khan.

Narrated Anas:

It was said to the Prophet “Would that you see Abdullah bin Ubai.” So, the Prophet went to him, riding a donkey, and the Muslims accompanied him, walking on salty barren land. When the Prophet reached ‘Abdullah bin Ubai, the latter said, “Keep away from me! By Allah, the bad smell of your donkey has harmed me.” On that an Ansari man said (to ‘Abdullah), “By Allah! The smell of the donkey of Allah’s Apostle is better than your smell.” On that a man from ‘Abdullah’s tribe got angry for ‘Abdullah’s sake, and the two men abused each other which caused the friends of the two men to get angry, and the two groups started fighting with sticks, shoes and hands. We were informed that the following Divine Verse was revealed (in this concern):– “And if two groups of Believers fall to fighting then, make peace between them.” (49.9)

Narrated Aisha:

…On our return, Um Mistah stumbled and said, “Let Mistah. be ruined” I said to her, “O mother Why do you abuse your Son” On that Um Mistah became silent for a while, and stumbling again, she said, “Let Mistah be ruined” I said to her, “Why do you abuse your son?” She stumbled for the third time and said, “Let Mistah be ruined” whereupon I rebuked her for that. She said, “By Allah, I do not abuse him except because of you.” I asked her, “Concerning what of my affairs?” So she disclosed the whole story to me…

Also Urwa and Hisham’s father narrated that:

Narrated ‘Urwa: I started abusing Hassan in front of ‘Aisha, whereupon she said. “Don’t abuse him, for he used to defend the Prophet (with his poetry).”

Narrated Hisham’s father:

I started abusing Hassan in front of ‘Aisha. She said, “Do not abuse him as he used to defend Allah’s Apostle (against the infidels). ‘Aisha added, “Once Hassan took the permission from the Prophet to say poetic verses against the infidels. On that the Prophet said, ‘How will you exclude my forefathers (from that)? Hassan replied, ‘I will take you out of them as one takes a hair out of the dough.” Hisham’s father added, “I abused Hassan as he was one of those who spoke against ‘Aisha.”

‘Abdur Rahman bin Abi Bakr said, “The Suffa Companions were poor people and the Prophet said, ‘Whoever has food for two persons should take a third one from them (Suffa companions). And whosoever has food for four persons he should take one or two from them’ Abu Bakr took three men and the Prophet took ten of them.”
‘Abdur Rahman added, my father my mother and I were there (in the house). (The sub-narrator is in doubt whether ‘Abdur Rahman also said, ‘My wife and our servant who was common for both my house and Abu Bakr’s house). Abu Bakr took his supper with the Prophet and remained there till the ‘Isha’ prayer was offered. Abu Bakr went back and stayed with the Prophet till the Prophet took his meal and then Abu Bakr returned to his house after a long portion of the night had passed. Abu Bakr’s wife said, ‘What detained you from your guests (or guest)?’ He said, ‘Have you not served them yet?’ She said, ‘They refused to eat until you come. The food was served for them but they refused.” ‘Abdur Rahman added, “I went away and hid myself (being afraid of Abu Bakr) and in the meantime he (Abu Bakr) called me, ‘O Ghunthar (a harsh word)!’ and also called me bad names and abused me and then said (to his family), ‘Eat. No welcome for you.’ Then (the supper was served). Abu Bakr took an oath that he would not eat that food. The narrator added: By Allah, whenever any one of us (myself and the guests of Suffa companions) took anything from the food, it increased from underneath. We all ate to our fill and the food was more than it was before its serving.
Sahih Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 10, Number 576

Narrated ‘Anbasa bin Said:

Abu Huraira came to the Prophet and asked him (for a share from the Khaibar booty). On that, one of the sons of Said bin Al-’As said to him, “O Allah’s Apostle! Do not give him.” Abu Huraira then said (to the Prophet ) “This is the murderer of Ibn Qauqal.” Sa’id’s son said, “How strange! A guinea pig coming from Qadum Ad-Dan!”

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah’s Apostle sent Aban from Medina to Najd as the commander of a Sariya. Aban and his companions came to the Prophet at Khaibar after the Prophet had conquered it, and the reins of their horses were made of the fire of date palm trees. I said, “O Allah’s Apostle! Do not give them a share of the booty.” on, that, Aban said (to me), “Strange! You suggest such a thing though you are what you are, O guinea pig coming down from the top of Ad-Dal (a lotus tree)! “On that the Prophet said, “O Aban, sit down ! ” and did not give them any share.

Sahih Bukhari, Volume 5, Book 59, Number 544

Narrated Said:

Aban bin Said came to the Prophet and greeted him. Abu Huraira said, “O Allah’s Apostle! This (Aban) is the murderer of the Ibn Qauqal.” (On hearing that), Aban said to Abu Huraira, “How strange your saying is! You, a guinea pig, descending from Qadum Dan, blaming me for (killing) a person whom Allah favored (with martyrdom) with my hand, and whom He forbade to degrade me with his hand.’
Sahih Bukhari, Volume 5, Book 59, Number 545

Narrated ‘Ubaidullah bin Abi Rafi:

Umar said, “O Allah’s Apostle! Allow me to chop off the head of this hypocrite.”

Allah’s Apostle said, “Hatib participated in the battle of Badr, and who knows, perhaps Allah has already looked at the Badr warriors and said, ‘Do whatever you like, for I have forgiven you.”Sahih Bukhari, Volume 4, Book 52, Number 251

Narrated Aisha:

..Sad bin Mu’adh got up and said, ‘O Allah’s Apostle! by Allah, I will relieve you from him. If that man is from the tribe of the Aus, then we will chop his head off, and if he is from our brothers, the Khazraj, then order us, and we will fulfill your order.’ On that Sad bin ‘Ubada, the chief of the Khazraj and before this incident, he had been a pious man, got up, motivated by his zeal for his tribe and said, ‘By Allah, you have told a lie; you cannot kill him, and you will never be able to kill him.’ On that Usaid bin Al-Hadir got up and said (to Sad bin ‘Ubada), ‘By Allah! you are a liar. By Allah, we will kill him; and you are a hypocrite, defending the hypocrites.’ On this the two tribes of Aus and Khazraj got excited and were about to fight each other, while Allah’s Apostle was standing on the pulpit. He got down and quietened them till they became silent and he kept quiet. On that day I kept on weeping so much so that neither did my tears stop, nor could I sleep.

Narrated Al-Ma’rur:

At Ar-Rabadha I met Abu Dhar who was wearing a cloak, and his slave, too, was wearing a similar one. I asked about the reason for it. He replied, “I abused a person by calling his mother with bad names.” The Prophet said to me, ‘O Abu Dhar! Did you abuse him by calling his mother with bad names You still have some characteristics of ignorance. Your slaves are your brothers and Allah has put them under your command. So whoever has a brother under his command should feed him of what he eats and dress him of what he wears. Do not ask them (slaves) to do things beyond their capacity (power) and if you do so, then help them.’”
Sahih Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 2, Number 29

(ii) Some of the Incidents from Sahih Muslim

Sulaiman b. Surad reported that two persons abused each other in the presence of Allah’s Apostle (may peace be upon him) and the eyes of one of them became red as embers and the veins of his neck were swollen. Thereupon Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: I know of a wording, if he were to utter that, his fit of rage (would be no more and that wording is): I seek refuge with Allah from Satan the accursed. The person said: Do you find any madness in me? Ibn al-’Ala’ said: Do you see it? And he made no mention of the person.
Sahih Muslim, Book 032, Number 6316

‘Alqama b. Wa’il reported on the authority of his-father: While I was sitting in the company of Allah’s Apostle (may peace be upon him), a person came there dragging another one with the help of a strap and said: Allah’s Messenger, this man has killed my brother. Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) said to him: Did you kill him? And the other man said: (In case he did not make a confession of this, I shall brine, a witness against him). He (the murderer) said: Yes, I have killed him. He (the Holy Prophet) said: Why did you kill him? He said: I and he won striking down the leaves of a tree and he abused me and enraged me, and to I struck his head with an axe and killed him, whereupon Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: Have you anything with you to pay blood-wit on your behalf? He said: I do not possess any property but this robe of mine and this axe of mine. He (the Holy, Prophet) said: Do you think your people will pay ransom for you? He said: I am more insignificant among my people than this (that I would not be able to get this benefit from my tribe). He (the Holy Prophet) threw the strap towards him (the claimant of the blood-wit) saying: Take away your man. The man took him away, and as he returned, Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: If he kills him, he will be like him. He returned and said: Allah’s Messenger, it has reached me that you have said that” If he killed him, he would be like him.” I caught hold of him according to your command, whereupon Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: Don’t you like that he should take upon him (the burden) of your sin and the sin of your companion (your brother)? He said: Allah’s Apostle, why not? The Messenger of Allah (may peace be. upon him) said: If it is so, then let it be. He threw away the strap (around the offender) and set him free.

Sahih Muslim, Book 016, Number 4164

Note: The first Sahabi (the killer) also made the same excuse, which Nasibis make when they kill shias (i.e. he killed while other person abused him). Did Rasool Allah [saww] accept this excuse and left him free?

‘Abdullah b. Buraida reported on the authority of his father that Ma’iz b. Malik al-Aslami came to Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) and said: Allah’s Messenger, I have wronged myself; I have committed adultery and I earnestly desire that you should purify me. He turned him away. On the following day, he (Ma’iz) again came to him and said: Allah’s Messenger, I have committed adultery. Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) turned him away for the second time, and sent him to his people saying: Do you know if there is anything wrong with his mind. They denied of any such thing in him and said: We do not know him but as a wise good man among us, so far as we can judge. He (Ma’iz) came for the third time, and he (the Holy Prophet) sent him as he had done before. He asked about him and they informed him that there was nothing wrong with him or with his mind. When it was the fourth time, a ditch was dug for him and he (the Holy Prophet) pronounced judg- ment about him and he wis stoned. He (the narrator) said: There came to him (the Holy Prophet) a woman from Ghamid and said: Allah’s Messenger, I have committed adultery, so purify me. He (the Holy Prophet) turned her away. On the following day she said: Allah’s Messenger, Why do you turn me away? Perhaps, you turn me away as you turned away Ma’iz. By Allah, I have become pregnant. He said: Well, if you insist upon it, then go away until you give birth to (the child). When she was delivered she came with the child (wrapped) in a rag and said: Here is the child whom I have given birth to. He said: Go away and suckle him until you wean him. When she had weaned him, she came to him (the Holy Prophet) with the child who was holding a piece of bread in his hand. She said: Allah’s Apostle, here is he as I have weaned him and he eats food. He (the Holy Prophet) entrusted the child to one of the Muslims and then pronounced punishment. And she was put in a ditch up to her chest and he commanded people and they stoned her. Khalid b Walid came forward with a stone which he flung at her head and there spurted blood on the face of Khalid and so he abused her. Allah’s Apostle (may peace be upon him) heard his (Khalid’s) curse that he had huried upon her. Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: Khalid, be gentle. By Him in Whose Hand is my life, she has made such a repentance that even if a wrongful tax-collector were to repent, he would have been forgiven. Then giving command regarding her, he prayed over her and she was buried.
Sahih Muslim, Book 017, Number 4206

Narrated Aisha, Ummul Mu’minin:

Ata’ said: The quilt of Aisha was stolen. She began to curse the person who had stolen it. The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) began to tell her: Do not lighten him.
Sahih Muslim, Book 8, Number 1492

Ibn Abbas (Allah be pleased with him) reported: This news reached ‘Umar that Samura had sold wine, whereupon he said: May Allah destroy Samura; does he not know that Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) said:” Let there be the curse of Allah upon the Jews that fat was declared forbidden for them, but they melted it and then sold it”?
Sahih Muslim, Book 010, Number 3842

Sa’id b. Zaid b. ‘Amr b. Nufail (Allah be pleased with them) reported that Arwi (bint Uwais) disputed with him (in regard to a part of the land) of his hodse. He said: Leave it and take off your claim from it, for I heard Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: He who took a span of land without his right would be made to wear around his neck seven earths on the Day of Resurrection. He (Sa’id b. Zaid) said: O Allah, make her blind if she has told a lie and make her grave in her house. He (the narrator) said: I saw her blind groping (her way) by touching the walls and saying: The curse of Sa’id b. Zaid has hit me. And it so happened that as she was walking in her house, she passed by a well in her house and fell therein and that be- came her grave.

Sahih Muslim, Book 010, Number 3921

Abu Mas’ud al-Badri reported: I was beating my slave with a whip when I heard a voice behind me: Understand, Abu Masud; but I did not recognise the voice due to intense anger. He (Abu Mas’ud) reported: As he came near me (I found) that he was the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) and he was saying: Bear in mind, Abu Mas’ud; bear in mind. Abu Mas’ud. He (Aba Maslad) said: threw the whip from my hand. Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: Bear in mind, Abu Mas’ud; verily Allah has more dominance upon you than you have upon your slave. I (then) said: I would never beat my servant in future.
Sahih Muslim, Book 015, Number 4086

This hadith has been narrated. on the authority of Shu’ba with the same chain of transmitters. Amir b. Sa’d b. Abi Waqqas reported on the authority of his father that Muawiya b. Abi Sufyin appointed Sa’d as the Governor and said: What prevents you from abusing Abu Turab (Hadrat ‘Ali), whereupon be said: It is because of three things which I remember Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) having said about him that I would not abuse him and even if I find one of those three things for me, it would be more dear to me than the red camelg. I heard Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) say about ‘Ali as he left behind hrin in one of his campaigns (that was Tabuk). ‘All said to him: Allah’s Messenger, you leave me behind along with women and children. Thereupon Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) said to him: Aren’t you satisfied with being unto me what Aaron was unto Moses but with this exception that there is no prophethood after me. And I (also) heard him say on the Day of Khaibar: I would certainly give this standard to a person who loves Allah and his Messenger and Allah and his Messenger love him too. He (the narrator) said: We have been anxiously waiting for it, when he (the Holy Prophet) said: Call ‘Ali. He was called and his eyes were inflamed. He applied saliva to his eyes and handed over the standard to him, and Allah gave him victory. (The third occasion is this) when the (following) verse was revealed:” Let us summon our children and your children.” Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) called ‘Ali, Fitima, Hasan and Husain and said: O Allah, they are my family.
Sahih Muslim, Book 031, Number 5915

(iii) Some Incidents from Sunnan Abu Dawud

Narrated AbuBakr:

AbuBarzah said: I was with AbuBakr. He became angry at a man and uttered hot words. I said: Do you permit me, Caliph of the Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him), that I cut off his neck? These words of mine removed his anger; he stood and went in. He then sent for me and said: What did you say just now? I said: (I had said:) Permit me that I cut off his neck. He said: Would you do it if I ordered you? I said: Yes. He said: No, I swear by Allah, this is not allowed for any man after Muhammad (peace_be_upon_him).

Narrated AbuHurayrah:

The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) said: The gravest sin is going to lengths in talking unjustly against a Muslim’s honour, and it is a major sin to abuse twice for abusing once.
Sunan Abu Dawud, Book 41, Number 4859

Note: Sahaba are also included in this order i.e. Shari’i penalty of abusing Sahabi is to abuse once in return. And if twice is abused in return, again it’s a major sin.

Narrated Aisha, Ummul Mu’minin:

Ibn Awn said: I asked about the meaning of intisar (revenge) in the Qur’anic verse: “But indeed if any do help and defend themselves (intasara) after a wrong (done) to them, against them there is no cause of blame.” Then Ali ibn Zayd ibn Jad’an told me on the authority of Umm Muhammad, the wife of his father.

Ibn Awn said: It was believed that she used to go to the Mother of the Faithful (i.e. Aisha). She said: The Mother of the Faithful said: The Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) came upon me while Zaynab, daughter of Jahsh, was with us. He began to do something with his hand. I signalled to him until I made him understand about her. So he stopped. Zaynab came on and began to abuse Aisha. She tried to prevent her but she did not stop.

So he (the Prophet) said to Aisha: Abuse her.

So she abused her and dominated her. Zaynab then went to Ali and said: Aisha abused you and did (such and such). Then Fatimah came (to the Prophet) and he said to her: She is the favourite of your father, by the Lord of the Ka’bah!

She then returned and said to them: I said to him such and such, and he said to me such and such. Then Ali came to the Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) and spoke to him about that.
Sunan Abu Dawud, Book 41, Number 4880

Yahya related to me from Malik from Nafic from Abdullah ibn Umar that a man cursed his wife in the time of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and disowned her child. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, separated them and gave the child to the woman.
Sunan Abu Dawud, Book 29, Number 29.12.35

(iv) Some of the incidents of cursing from Masnad Ahmad bin Hanbal

Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal narrated by Abu Huraira:

“One person was abusing Abu Bakr and Rasool Allah (s) was watching it and smiling. When he didn’t stop, then Abu Bakr refuted him. Upon this, Prophet Muhammad (s) stood up and left.

Hadhrat Abu Bakr said: “O Prophet of Allah, till the time he was abusing me, you kept on sitting (and smiling), and when I refuted him, why you became angry?”

Rasool Allah (s) said: “O Abu Bakr, when he was abusing you, an angel was refuting him from your side, and when you started refuting him, then came devil and I cannot sit with devil”.
Masnad Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal, vol. 2, page 436, published by Al-Maymniyyah, Egypt

Same tradition can also be found in Mishkaatul Masabih, bab Al-Rafq, page 432, published by Ashah al-Mataba, Delhi, India.

“Khalid bin Waleed reported that there was an exchange of hard words between Ammar bin Yasir and I. I abused Ammar and he went to Rasool Allah (s) to complain against me. We were talking nothing in front of Rasool Allah (s) except abusing each other and Rasool Allah (s) was sitting quietly. Ammar started weeping and said to Rasool Allah (s): “Don’t you see that he is abusing me.”

Rasool Allah (s) rose his head and said, “One who will shows enmity towards Ammar, Allah will show enmity to him”.

Masnad Imam Ahmad bin Hambal, vol. 4, page 89-90

Allama Ali Muttaqi Burhanpuri Hanafi records this incident in the following words:

A dispute took place between Khalid and Ammar bin Yassir and both of them abused each other. When they came to Rasool Allah (s), again both of them started abusing each other. Khalid said to Rasool Allah (s), “This slave is abusing me in front of you. By Allah, if you would not present here, he wouldn’t have abused me.” Rasool Allah (s) said, “O khalid, keep away (from abusing) Ammar. Anyone who shows enmity towards Ammar, Allah will show enmity to him.”.

(v) Some Incidents of Cursing from other Ahle-Sunnah Books

Muawiyyah bin Abi Suffyan was humiliated in his own court and neither he nor his companions punished those people. Although such traditions are not able to be noted, but they are only presented as a proof.

Mulla Barkhurdar Multani, the mentor of famous book of Aqaid “Nabras ala Sharh al-Aqaeed” wrote:

“Shareek bin ‘Aur came to Muawiyyah and he was ugly looking person. Muawiyyah said to him, “You are ugly looking man, and a good looking man is better than ugly looking man. And you are Shareek (partner), and there is no Shareek of Allah. And your father is ‘Aur, and Sahih (right) is better than ‘Aur, then how you managed to become the leader of your nation?”

Shareek replied to Muawiyyah, “Muawiyyah is a [Edited Out] which calls dogs behind her. And you are a son of Sughar, and Sahal is better than Sughar, and you are a son of Harab, and Suleh is better than Harab, and you are a son of Ummaiyah and he is Tasgheer of Umata (a slave girl), then how you managed to become Amir-ul-Momineen?”

With slight variation in words same tradition can be found in, Tarikh-e-Khulafa by Syutti, page 139, published by Taba Majeedi, Kanpur, India.

Ibne Hajar Makki reported:

“When Abdullah Ibne Umar, the son of Hadhrat Umar, abused the companion of Rasool Allah (saww) Maqdad bin Aswad, then Hadhrat Umar threatened to cut his toungue. But later he freed him (without any punishment).

Sawaiq-e-Muhariqqah, Page 257, Published in Cairo, Egypt

Famous Hanafi Alim Sheikh Muhammad bin Qasim Al-Hanafi wrote in his compilation “Roz al-Akhyaar al-Muntakhib” page 195, published in Egypt:

“Muawiyyah bin Abi Sufyan was famous for his cool temperament and no one was able to make him angry. Thus, one person claimed that he will make him angry. He came to Muawiyyah and said, I would like to marry your mother to meas her vagina is large and sweet (Naudabillah).” Muawiyyah laughed and replied, ‘That’s why my father loved her’. Then Muawiyyah ordered his treasurer to give him 1000 coins, so that he might buy a slave girl for him.

At the end i would like to ask my sunni brethren if they can answer me:

Muaviya, Lady aisha, Abu Bakr, Umar, Khalid bin Waleed died a muslim or a KAFIR?

Because the so called 'SAHIH' books of sunnis conclude them to be KAFIRS because they cursed some sahabas!

If Muaviya, Aisha, Umar, Abu Bakr and other people mentioned above were not kafir then certainly SHIAS CANNOT BE KAFIRS!! Because we don't believe in double standards, if u believe SHIAS ARE KAFIRS due to enemity towards sahaba then u should not hesitate to believe that there were OTHER KUFFARS ALSO LIKE THE SHIAS.....hope i do not require to give any more explanation about WHO THOSE KUFFARS were!!!

Wassalamu alaykum wa rehmatullah!!

As per the idiots over in sunniforum and those other takfiri websites, a person who doubts the belief or curses any sahaba, not only becomes a disbeliever, but is also one who's death by way of murder is obligatory. *FACEPALM*

Salam 'Alaikum.
