Asking For Forgiveness

Imam al-Baqir has reported: My father sent his slave on mission but he delayed in fulfilling it. He lashed him with one stroke. The slave said, “O Ali ibn al-Husayn. You send me on a mission and hit me!” My father cried, saying, “My son! Go to the grave of the Holy Prophet, perform a two-unit prayer and say: O Lord: Forgive Ali ibn al-Husayn on the Judgment Day.” Then he said to the slave, “You are free in the way of Allah.”

Abu-Basir says: I said to the Imam, “May I be your ransom. It seems that setting a slave free is the atonement of hitting him!” But the Imam kept silent.[2]

Retaliation

Imam al-Rida reports: Ali ibn al-Husayn hit his slave on one occasion. Being sorry, he entered home, took off his shirt and while giving a lash to his slave said, “Hit Ali ibn al-Husayn!” The slave refused to do and the Imam gave him fifty Dinars.[3]

How could these hadiths be true if the Imam's (peace be upon them) are infallible? please explain, thanks.

they are not true, the Imams dont act out of anger, for if they did they would be like any other human being, and not at the status of the imams

the Imam prayed for forgiveness of those who were mutilating him and striking his final blows on Kerbala, so why would you believe that he would hit somebody innocent?

unless the Imams was imposing divine punishment in that the slave came and confessed some sin, and the Imam acted out the punishment based on divine laws

Asking For Forgiveness

Brother first hadeeth is Weak due to Ali ibn Abi Hamza al-Bataini he is Lair and about second hadeeth I am not sure, cant figure it out who the person in orange is ? maybe other brother will help you out.

Moreover, Akhlaq of Imam in this hadeeth contradict authentic hadeeth where he didn't hit his Camel even once during his journey.

A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn al-Faddal from ibn Bukayr from Zurara who has said the following:

“I heard abu Ja‘far, say,‘Ali ibn al-Husayn, had a she-camel. He had taken this camel twenty two times to Hajj (pilgrimage to Makka) and had not used a whip against it, not even once. The Imam has said that the camel came after he passed away and we were not aware but we noticed only when one of the servants or slaves came and said, ‘The she-camel has gone out all the way to the grave of Ali ibn al-Husayn. She rubs her neck against the grave and moans.’ I then asked them to quickly get to her before they (the enemies) might know about her or see her. The Imam has said, the she-camel had never seen the grave before.’”

There's no contradiction with their infallibility here. The slave delayed in fulfilling his masters command and so the punishment was just, however the Imam had compassion for his servant and freed him. The narration is demonstration the justice and mercy of the Imam. Reminds me how it would be just of Allah to punish us with Hell, but out of his compassion and mercy forgives them their sins and allows His servants into the Garden.
