"Salah" contrary to what many people believe does not mean "prayer", it means "connection" or "bond" i.e. bond with Allah. It is an essential part of Islam as it has been commanded in the Qur'an, and in fact, the Qur'an is not for people who do not read the Salah, as Allah says:

This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah -

Who believe in the unseen, establish the Salah, and spend out of what We have provided for them.

Surat al-Baqara, verses 2 - 3.

It is one of the ways of bonding and speaking with Allah, as well as a cleanser of sins and is a distinguishing factor between the hypocrites and the true Muslims.

The connection with Allah is essential for all Mankind, it's a sort of spiritual nourishment. There are several reasons for it:

- Recognising the greatness of Allah

- Having moments of reflection with Allah throughout the day

- Feeding the souls' need to worship
