Balding At Age 17?!

Recommended Posts

(bismillah)

I am seventeen years old and for the past few months I have noticed a severe reduction in hairs at the crown of my head. This is the only spot where I have less hair, otherwise I have a full head of hair. This "balding" is apparently not hereditary as no male in my family goes bald before 40. I have no skin disease to speak of. What am I supposed to do?Please help quickly.

If you can find a doctor who specializes on hair on these forums then go see him lol. Otherwise go see a doctor or specialist in your neighborhood ;) You might have some vitamins deficiencies, they can check it within your blood. Moreover, say shukr for the hairs you still have.

You know your brothers have got your back on SC when they answer your queries without hesitance. I will Inshallah check for any deficiencies and will stop using shampoos.

Get use to it. Woman like it more than you think. Balding is associated with higher testosterone levels. Higher testosterone is associated with higher earnings, more success and vitality. Start cutting your hair short to minimize the contrast and use the increased testosterone to get in much better shape.

Problem solved.

I know of a female who was going completely bald at about 13. She went to a dermatologist who recommended nourkrin shampoo, some tablets and hair cream. it worked really well, she didn't even finish the dose and gave the rest to a balding uncle (who also had good results).

This was over 10 years ago.. I don't know if the product is still available on the market.

You might be having some disturbances in body chemistry. There is a natural derivative of testosterone produced in your body and is called alpha-testosterone (IIRC) higher levels of which destroy hair roots and cause baldness. There is also a drug originating from UK I think (and sold under brand name of "Genesis" for this which is a alpha-testosterone inhibitor and it is specifically to fight baldness if this is indeed your problem. So you should consult a doctor and if he warrants its use after a blood test to see if its your problem then it will help you immensely if you choose to go this way. A couple of people I know swear by it but I'm not going to simply recommend it. Consult your marja first, errr, I mean your doctor. ^^^

Since I don't think any of us are MD's DO's or any other derivative. I'd say go to your primary care doctor express your concerns and get referred to a specialist who knows what they're talking about. It's probably nothing, you might be deficient in certain vitamins that feed your hair sort to speak. Or you might have genes that leave you predisposed to this and maybe just your immediate family or the last few generations didn't get it. Theres a number of reasons but I don't think its a skin disorder

I started balding at 17, use proscar/propecia!

It stopped after a week and im still on it today, still no loss.

Yeeeaaahhhh booooy!

Partly true. Balding is often caused by conversion of Testosterone to DHT(Dihydrotestosterone). The scalp for some odd reason, can't prevent it, so you can juice up some proscar/propecia which will prevent the conversion.

It's actually a prostate cancer drug, so you will kill two flies in one smack! Awesome doo, and no mini me cancer!

Please don't recommend any drugs or medicine to the brother via this site as it could be harmful. I'm sure like every drugs/medicine out there this one has some side effects (that you maybe not have encountered yet), but could possibly worsen some other feautures of the body, again like lots of medicines.

An ultimate decision when you're finally bald could be to do a hairtransplant I guess (like Rooney :P), also much cheaper than keep buying medicines, no?

Why can't i recommend any drugs or medicine? It's not like i'm telling him to go around the corner and buy it off of Jose next to 7/11. I recommend a drug i have used and know it works, and i also know more people that have used it.

It is his responsibility to go to a doctor, talk about it, research about it and then get a proper prescription and last but not least, live with the notion that he might get side effects, like any other drug.

I appreciate your concern for the fellow human, but you took a shot in the dark there friend.

Repenter and vader are correct. 1 milligram of finasteride (proscar or propecia) is a good remedy to slow down hormone driven hair loss (you won't grow back what you've lost). visiting a dermatologist is the right first step, though a GP will do as well. keep in mind it is a life long treatment regimen, and does have it's side effects, like reduce libido (which for a lot of people on this site is actually the best benefit!)

get a script for the 5mg tablets and get a pill cutter to cut it to quarters, it would save whallops of cash

Man if you are suffering from a fungal infection it can be cured easily using a Minoxidil ingredient brand for example rogaine it is quite famous. but if u suffer from male bald pattern then see a dermatologist and go for proper Finasteride and minoxidil treatment there are hardly any side effects as it is FDA approved treatment for hair loss and hair gain

One advice man u can overshadow your problem as u are hardly 17 but later it will be worsen. Hair treatments are quite costly and it requires a lot of patients too so be calm.

Any more queries you can tell me as i am on hair treatment for more than a year and its effective but it requires patience.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA...no.

I need real advice brother. I dont want to joke about this ;)

Well, I can think of two things:

1) Eisenhower and other famous people went bald in their late teens. So consider yourself destined for 'greatness'.

2) Go to Japan. There, people think baldness is a result of being over-sexed (not a joke, they do).

:shaytan: <-- there is a little devilishness in all of us (Amerikan saying)

Seriously, go see a dermatologist. It could be parasitic or fungal. Even oncological. With no baldness in your family (you inherit this only through your Mother) it is probaly not genetic.

Oh and btw, a cousin of mine uses coffeine shampoo, which is more expensive than regular, but his hair didn't fall out after. Anyway, it's also a longlife shampoo that he needs to use my uncle told me..So maybe worth a shot?

Now to end this topic, I would like to thank those who found the time and the information to prescribe certain treatments for me. I went to the deoctor a couple of days ago, and he promptly said that the symptoms of what I am going through are related to stress. I am doing my A levels, and have also taken up a lot of subjects privately, which has added to pressure. The doctor has told me to stay away from any medication like Propecia, and told me to use shampoos containing essence of oil to nourish my hair. Thanks to everyone.
