Mental Health- Why The Misery?

Salam Alikum everyone, I was wondering whether there is any good islamic books/ lectures that will help in positive thinking. Whenever I face a trial (employment problems or breaking up with fiancé) I go into depression. I know everything happens for a reason and its for the best. Not only do I know it but I have seen it with my own eyes and experienced it numerous times. After the hardship I have always got something much better than what I had. I keep the management of my affairs with Allah (swt) and it gives me peace of mind. Yet, I can not stop thinking about what happened and feeling upset and depressed. I know that what comes in the future will be better than what I lost inshalla but I continue to be heart broken. Maybe because I am a very impulsive person and too emotional. I always have a negative state of mind and freak out. Is it lack of faith? I have has so many trials that taught me patience and yet I still get unbearably emotional and negative. How do I become patient in the sense that anything I face will not affect me? Being quiet about it and not complaining is not called patience right?

I have a lot of mental imbalances and i am a full blown schizophrenic( the reason why this post caught my eye) ,and i will tell you that patience doesn't just mean to be quiet and not complaining( actually its very healthy to verbalize your complains to god alone), it perhaps means to accept your situation and circumstances, and you can only do that by understanding the root cause of it and realizing that you deserved it, till you don't do that you are merely denying it and it will keep resurfacing again and again which you will experience it as depression.

"How do I become patient in the sense that anything I face will not affect me?"

that is faith and you already said

"After the hardship I have always got something much better than what I had. I keep the management of my affairs with Allah (swt) and it gives me peace of mind."

so you pretty much know it and you have felt it, you just have to maintain focus.

sorry cant help you with the islamic books and lectures for positive thinking

i am a nut case and i feel fine alhumdulillah :)

Assalam,

I have found the book 'For a Better Future' by Abdul Adheem al-Muhtadi al-Bahrani to be a great source of comfort in difficult times. Please find a full text version here (al-Islam.org).

As well, my absolute favourite lecture series is one on the 'End of Negative Suffering' by Brother Khalil Jaffer. Please find a YouTube link

.

InshAllah, I hope you find some solace in these links.

Thanks everyone :) All useful advice.

What I learnt this time is to ask Allah (swt) to help me overcome my state of sadness. If Allah (swt) is most merciful, then he has more mercy than we do for our own selves. If i feel sorry for myself, Allah (swt) will feel sorry for me more than I do for myself (well thats how I see it) ... with that mentality and realisation of Allah's (swt) love for his creation and his compassion, I reached a new me inshalla.
