Salam,

Just had a debate with a Pakistani community member bent on creating divisions between people. I found the discussion futile and unnecessary but apparently the division monger group finds it big enough to create fitna.

The person was implying that in the famous Durood on Prophet, all those who say "Muhammad wa aal-e-Muhammad" were wrong and all those who say "Muhammad-din wa aal-e-Muhammad" were right. As in the full salawat "Allah humma Salli Ala Muhammad wa aal-e-Muhammad".

What is your opinion from the Hadith and classical text? Does all this even matter in our opinion?

Salaam,

They are both fine. It's a grammar thing in Arabic.

"Allah Humma salle ala Muhammad Wa ale-Muhammad"

If you say it this way, you're meant to have a slight pause inbetween 'Muhammad' and 'wa-ale'.

"Allah Humma salle Ala Muhammadin Wa ale-Muhammad"

This way requires no pause and you say it as one continuous sentence.

Salamalaikum

A trusted friend of mine has read ahadees that it must be mohammadin was aale Mohammad and that is how I was taught to recite all the time and I have seen most of the elderly shias recite that way. And if you have a hadees for Mohammad was aale Mohammad then you can bring it forward if not ur argument is weaker here.

What argument? I'm asking a question..

Please don't derail the thread, post the Hadith in Arabic here if you could, would be a great service for all of us.

I guess both way is correct:

Found one more thread:

Ibn Hajar Makki writes in his Sawa-iq al Muhriqah, on page 87, that the Holy Prophet warned the people not to send batar salawat (salawat which has lost the tail i.e. curtailed). When asked what a batar salawat was he replied: "If you stop at 'Allahumma salli ala Muhammad' You should say: 'Allahumma salli ala Muhammad wa ali Muhammad'"

Sahih Muslim: Chapter on Salat on Prophet

(17)Chapter: Sending Salat Upon The Prophet (saws) After The Tashah-hud(17)

Abdullah b. Zaid-he who was shown the call (for prayer in a dream) narrated it on the authority of Mas'ad al-Ansiri who said:

We were sitting in the company of Sa'id b. 'Ubida when the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) came to us. Bashir b. S'ad said: Allah has commanded us to bless you. Messenger of Allah! But how should we bless you? He (the narrator) said: The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) kept quiet (and we were so much perturbed over his silence) that we wished we had not asked him. The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) then said: (For blessing me) say:" 0 Allah, bless Muhammad and the members of his household as Thou didst bless the mernbers of Ibrahim's household. Grant favours to Muhammad and the members of his household as Thou didst grant favours to the members of the household of Ibrahim in the world. Thou art indeed Praiseworthy and Glorious" ; and salutation as you know.

Ibn Abi Laila reported:

Ka'b b. 'Ujra met me and said: Should I not offer you a present (and added): The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) came to us and we said: We have learnt how to invoke peace upon you; (kindly tell us) how we should bless you. He (the Holy Prophet) said: Say:" O Allah: bless Muhammad and his family as Thou didst bless the family of Ibrahim. Verily Thou art Praiseworthy and Glorious, O Allah."
