According to latest stats:

India-49% of men are actively seeking or indulging in extra-marital affairs. Women don't lag much behind.

Pakistan-7% of men are actively seeking or indulging in extra-marital affairs (they are the next highest offender!)

Egypt-6% of men are actively seeking or indulging in extra-marital affairs

Saudi Arabia-5% of men are actively seeking or indulging in extra-marital affairs

In India too, Hindu couples are the highest on the infidelity index, Indian Muslims being on the lowest in India, apparently that's one bad thing they have not assimilated themselves yet into, but that's a different discussion.

Thanks to Islam which puts even heavier legal penalties on illicit affairs between married couple, while the legal penalties of non-married illicit affairs being already very strong and in most cases deterring.

Not that I doubt that the rates wouldn't be much lower in Muslim countries, but it's worth noting that these stats are based on what people are willing to admit to. Even under the condition of anonymity, I doubt too many Muslims would be willing to admit to "actively seeking or indulging in extra-marital affairs".

Funny thing is that a woman is least safe from sexual harassment in Egypt followed by Pakistan then by India.... this is according to first hand experiences of some of Western female friends who have travelled those countries.

Hailing from one of the countries mentioned I can tell you that these stats are obviously not accurate or representative of the entire population.

Also how does one define an extra marital affair? Is it just replying to one of the, hi you want frandship me? text and then saying you like some random person, or is it a full on, inappropriate, sexual acts involved relationship?

Some cities have a ridiculously high level of promiscuity, especially in the workplace.

Not to mention the high end, flourishing prostitution industry.

I wish men and women both were more considerate of each other's wishes and with lesser expectations that'd make life so much easier..

I agree, these stats are not right. The actual percentage is more than 95%. When I see people from these areas, I wonder how is it possible to have a relationship with literally every single person you meet on the street? Why do desi women make such a big deal out of their husbands getting a second wife? They DO share their husbands, with not 1 but many women from the very first day of their marriage. They believe in cheating but doing it with intelligence, as long as you don't get caught, it's okay to do. Their definition of relationship is different, they don't flirt like people in hollywood movies, they mostly talk about serious stuff (having very intelligent conversations) while they are flirting with their body language and eyes.

Every person has at least two relationships, one with less good looking person and the other with more good looking person. They receive gifts from the less good looking person and give those gifts to the more good looking person. It's very strange, you are not allowed to reject anyone, if you reject someone, then you are arrogant, that person turns into devdas and everyone hates you for hurting the devdas. But if you decide to insult that person, then that's perfectly fine. You can treat people like pets, getting money/ favors for every single smile you give but that's fine as long as you pretend to like EVERYONE who likes you.

BUT they work hard, they are successful and they have long, happy marriages and in the end that's all that matters.

A lawful additional marriage would not count as an 'affair'. Anyway, most of the countries under discussion are Sunni ones anyway.

I think you guys are missing the point here. 2nd, 3rd and so on marriages or a temp. marriage relationship in Islam is not cheating in any sense at all because Allah (swt) would never allow cheating and make it a halal act.

The article from where I copied the stats from was by an Indian NGO CEO lamenting the poor or perceived poor state of affairs of Indian woman plagued with violence, rapes, mutilation, and other crimes.

The stats of number of married men and women having a sexual affair with other married men and women caught my eye because Hinduism is currently the largest open pagan system of beliefs.

I connected this to pre-Islam pagan Arab which had almost exactly similar traits. For example an Arab clan leader Abu Sufiyan's wife was known to sleep around with many men, Muawiah was the product of one such union where 6 different men claimed the fathership of Muawiah. Hinda again was known to have offered her body as a bounty to the killer of Hazrat Hamza had he succeeded in the ambush.

It's not perceived poor state, women are really in a poor state. All women are shy by nature and giving up their character IS painful. Desis are obsessed with that movie "Umrao Jaan Adaa". They make sure that every woman becomes like Umrao jaan ada and then they make movies about it and pretend that they understand the pain women go through. I also think that this culture is very similar to pre-islam arab culture, and we need Imam Mehdi (A.S.)
