1. Kisanis [al-Kisaniyah] who claimed that the son of Amirul- Mo’mineen, Muhammad ibn Hanafiyah, was the Imam after Imam Ali or Imam Hussain (peace be upon

them). As they did not adhere to Imam Zainul Abideen’s leadership, they wanted to get rid of him because he used to stand up against their deviations.

2. Zaydis [al-Zaydiah] who claimed that Imam Zainul Abideen’s (peace be upon him) son Zayd was the Imam after him and that’s to get rid of Imam al-Sadiq’s leadership who used to stand up against their deviations.

3. Battris who claimed that Abu Bakr and Umar (May the curse of Allah be upon them) were believers as a means to reconcile and get closer to the Mukhalifeen (the opponents to Ahlulbayt peace be upon them).

4. Mughairis [al-Mughairiya] who claimed that the Imam after Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (peace be upon him) was al-Mughaira bin Said (May the curse of Allah be

upon him).

5. Muhammadis [al- Muhammadiyah] who claimed that the promised Imam Mehdi was Muhammed bin Abdullah bin al-Hassan falsely known as al-Nafs -e- Zakiya who was then killed during the time of Imam al-Sadiq (peace be upon him).

6. Nawousis [al-Nawousiyah] who claimed that the promised Imam Mehdi was Imam al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) and that he is still alive as a means to get rid of Imam Musa al-Kadhim (peace be upon him) who used to stand up against their deviations.

7. Isma'ilis [al-Isma’iliya] who claimed that the son of Imam al-Sadiq (peace be upon), Isma’il was the son after him and that’s to get rid of Imam Kadhim’s leadership who also used to stand up against their deviations.

8. Faat-hies [al-Fathiya] who claimed that the Imam after Imam al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) and before Imam al-Kadhim (peace be upon him) was Abdullah al-Aftah.

9. Waqifis [al-Waqifa] who claimed that the promised Imam Mehdi was Imam Musa al-Kadhim (peace be upon him) and that he is still alive as a means to get rid of Imam Ridha’s leadership (peace be upon him) who used to stand up against their deviations.

10. Nusairis [al-Nusairiya] who claimed that Imam al-Hadi (peace be upon him) was the Almighty Allah and that Muhammed bin Nusair was his prophet as a means to get rid of Imam Askari’s leadership (peace be upon him) who used to stand up against their deviations.

The Batriyya are actually a subsect of the Zaydis, and their Zaydi counterparts were the Jarudiyya. The Batriyya rejected taqiyya, Imamate/divinely-appointed successorship, and they were favourable or neutral towards Abu Bakr and `Umar, but not `Uthman. The Jarudiyya were more Shi`i in persuasion - founded by Abu'l Jarud who was a companion of al-Baqir (as) and a narrator of hadiths - and they believed in a partial Imamate, and awaited Mahdi, etc.

And Sa`d b. `Abdillah said:

Muhammad b. Nusayr an-Numayri would declare that he was a messenger prophet and that `Ali b. Muhammad Úáíå ÇáÓáÇã had sent him. And he would profess [the belief in] reincarnation and ghulw in regards to Abu’l Hasan Úáíå ÇáÓáÇã, and he professed Lordship in regards to him. And he professed the legalization of relatives (maharim), and allowed for men to have sexual intercourse, one with another, in their posteriors (i.e. anal intercourse). And he would allege that the receptive partner is one of modesty, humbleness, and humility, and the active partner is one with desires and good things, and that Allah ÚÒ æÌá forbade nothing of that. And Muhammad . Musa b. al-Hasan b. al-Furat would strengthen his reasons and assist him.

Sa`d said:

When Muhammad b. Nusayr became ill with the illness that he would die from, it was said to him whilst his speech was heavy: To whom will this affair go to after you? So he said with a weak, trembling tongue: Ahmad. They did not know who that was, so after him they had split into three sects. One sect said, “he is his son Ahmad”, and another sect said, “he is Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Musa b. al-Furat”, and another sect said, “he is Ahmad b. Abu’l Husayn b. Bashar b. Yazid”. They had differed and did not return (i.e. agree) upon a thing. And from them is Ahmad b. Hilal al-Karji.
