(salam)

If Ali (radiallah anhu) was angry with the Khalifa's for stealing his position, then why were Hussein and Hassan (radiallah anhum) standing guard outside of Uthman's (radiallah anhu) house the night he was assassinated? If they felt betrayed would they risk there lives for a thief? I would like to get as many views as possible on this matter. Thanks.

Wa Alaykum salaam.

Perhaps because Imam 'Ali (a) was a man of justice and mercy. Yes, they would risk their lives. These are not ordinary people... They are the Ahlul Bayt (as).

Even if someone was your enemy would you let another individual kill that person?

You can use AN infront of words which start with Alphabets A,I,E,O,U...

Advising You again, Change your Ways and Behaviour , Or You Shall rise up like a Donkey...

Actually you my friend are...... Wrong. Dear he doesnt know himself so what can he show others.

Can you provide any Ahadith to prove this?

And furthermore, doesn't this put you at a dilemma? Aisha claimed that Imam Ali (as) was behind Uthman's death - if that is the case, then why would Imams Hassan and Hussain (as) be guarding his home?

I do not know any hadiths about this particular subject but here is where I got my information from.

When Hasan (ÑÖøì Çááå Úäå) entered upon Uthman (ÑÖøì Çááå Úäå), he said, “O Commander of the Faithful! I am under your command, so order me as you wish.” Uthman (ÑÖøì Çááå Úäå) answered, “My dear brother’s son! Go back, and stay in your home until Allah carries out His order. I do not need the shedding of blood.”[Musnad Ahmed, Virtues of the Companions, #753]

Hasan (ÑÖøì Çááå Úäå), Hussain (ÑÖøì Çááå Úäå), Ibn Umar (ÑÖøì Çááå Úäå), Ibn Al-Zubair (ÑÖøì Çááå Úäå), and Marwan (ÑÖøì Çááå Úäå) rushed to the house of Uthman (ÑÖøì Çááå Úäå) raising their swords. Uthman (ÑÖøì Çááå Úäå) told them, “I order you to go back home, put your swords in their sheaths, and stay at home.” [Tareekh Khaleefah Al-Khayyat, p.174]

This decision by the extremist members of the Shia’t Ali was not supported by Ali (ÑÖøì Çááå Úäå). When Ali (ÑÖøì Çááå Úäå) heard that extremist members of his own party were plotting the murder of the Caliph, he immediately dispatched his own son to defend Uthman (ÑÖøì Çááå Úäå). Ali (ÑÖøì Çááå Úäå) sent a letter to Uthman (ÑÖøì Çááå Úäå) saying, “I have 500 men, so give me the permission to defend you from these people, otherwise things would happen that they would kill you.” Uthman (ÑÖøì Çááå Úäå) answered, “May Allah reward you for your good intentions, but I do not want blood to be shed for my cause.” [Tareekh Damascus, p.403]

Also brother I am neither a sunni or shia just a Muslim as the Prophet was. I reverted to Islam in 2009 and since then I have not taken a sect/madhhab because of this one Ayah in the Quran which reads...

Surah 6:159

"Indeed, those who have divided their religion and become sects - you, [O Muhammad], are not [associated] with them in anything. Their affair is only

to Allah ; then He will inform them about what they used to do."

My only dilemma in life is that I do not understand everyone's point of view something I wish to do. I feel that the truth is right in the middle, as it normally is, so to be a little bit of both (sunni/shia) would (in my opinion) make me a complete Muslim.

Aslamalaykum,

Even if someone was your enemy would you let another individual kill that person?

I think Imam Ali (as) took this action after knowing that they (Banu Umayyah) accused him of being leader of 'revolt'

Both brothers made some valid points, the Imam knew they will accuse Him so He a.s left no excuses for His enemies and sent His sons to protect the house of Uthman (if this is really what happened) as we can see the Ummayad supporters did accuse the Imam as Ibn Taymiyya says:

ßÇä ØÇÆÝÉ ãä ÔíÚÉ ÚËãÇä íÊåãæä ÚáíÇ ÈÃäå ÃãÑ ÈÞÊá ÚËãÇä

“A group of Uthman’s Shias (followers) accused Ali of giving orders to kill Uthman.”

Brother like you my first actual introduction to Islam was through Sunni books, so I can understand what you are trying to say; but sometimes you just can't be both, there comes a dividing line , even if you wish to avoid it, it still is there and then you have to choose.

Anyhow , I have read the same thing , but as usual I forgot the source, that Imam Al (as) aappointed Imam Hassan (as) to guard the third caliph; one reason can be behind it that He ( as) wanted to avoid bloodshed and He (as) could have thought that by seeing his sons there people will feel hesitant to go to that limit and the presence of Husnain (as) will help to bring people to restrain themselves----but again this is just an idea on my part.

Shall I Imagine,

He Saw and thought about the Future Of The Ummah In Them...

Imam Hassan (as) Hussein (as)

The Ummah required Them...In the Future...

I am sorry, I could not understand---

If they Would Wait to Protect Him and If They Would get Hurt Or Killed, They were Young and They Were From Ahlul Bait, Very Important, For Spread Of Islam, They Were Sons Of The Knowledged in The future they would spread Islam...

So Simple.

Understood...Sister/Brother..???

Or No BloodShed, Allah Knows the Best...

WaAlaikumu Salaam,

u can't even bring the hadiths, and if u did, u would had realized they are weak

but for the sake of the argument, lets say Imam Ali (as), Imam Hasan (as) and Imam Hussain (as) were there... but was uthman the only person in the house?

what makes u think they were there to defend uthman, and not the many innocent women and children in the house?

Marwan and his ummayyad kin guarded uthman primarly maybe it was because of kinship Ali sent his sons but his sympathies were definately with the revolutionaries whether Husnain guarded uthman or not but its well established that 3 out of the 4 alleged killers of uthman had good ties with Ali.

his biggest ummayad champion muwayia abandoned him completely. The rebellion against Usman had a very broad base.

Good to see you brother, hope all is well?

That's true. Sunnis could make a big deal out of the fact that Muhammad ibn Abu Bakr was involved with the rebels but he remained close with the Imam (as).

Imam Ali (as) was a man of justice. He was aware of the polital fallout of the fitna of rebellion. He probably knew that he would be accused as people knew that he was against the khulufa.

Evenso, he (as) did not retaliate against that combatant that spat on his face out of personal vendetta. He was composed and fought for Allah ÓÈÍÇäå æÊÚÇáì.

He did his best to avoid the upcoming fitna, but the fitnamongers still accused him of being part of it. However please note, even though he may have sent Hasnain (as) to quell the assasination at that point due to the fitna that would follow, he himself did not go. We know of the military prowess of them all but why did Imam Ali (as) not go?

Was he making a point? did he know what was going to happen from Rasulullah Õáì Çááå Úáíå æÂáå?

To add:

Imam Ali (as) did not support the fitna of 'Muslim' vs Muslim. He would avoid that whenever he could and that is why he did not wage war for his rights. Unfortunately someone who was so opposed to 'Muslim' vs Muslim was targetted by all those with influence and they did exacltly what he worked so ardently to avoid.
