What's Something Funny That Happened To You?

Do you have a funny story or something about your journey towards Islam?

I know for me, when I was still a Sunni and just beginning to look into Shiism, a brother said to me "You are not Sunni! You are a Shia doing taqqiya!" I speak Urdu and ask him why he called me a pillow lol (I had never heard the term taqqiya before and the word for pillow in Urdu sounds similar to the word taqqiya) :P lol

Yeah, that word gets misunderstood very easily. I have an incident to share too:

When I was a Sunni back then, I was with a person who's a Shia, and my adventure streak overtook me, so I asked him whether he'd be willing to take me to a Shia masjid (I just wanted to know what it looked like from the inside and how Shias pray etc). He said alright and we went for maghrib prayers. The congregational salah had already begun and I was still doing my lengthy Sunni wudhu, so this person told me to wait in the lobby of the masjid till he finishes prayers. I said okay. I wanted to pray maghrib too so I looked around and saw Shias picking up the turbah to prostrate.

I didn't want to feel like an outsider and honestly I was quite scared to be surrounded by Shias! So to blend in, I picked up the turbah and started my prayers. After finishing my salah, there were a couple of people in the lobby who were giving me such weird looks as if they were about to grab me by my collar and throw me out for being a Sunni. Now I realize what I was doing wrong - prostrating on a turbah yet joining hands while praying :P

It was awkward back then, now I find in it some humour.

A couple of years now. But I've feel like it was since yesterday.

Cool, hA:) its been only a few months for me so far but yeah, still feels like just yesterday for me too:p

Some memories are hard to erase especially ones like these because they turn your life 360 degrees. Sometimes I wish I could relive those times again, the hours spent in the library and speaking to new friends in the masjid over hot chai and niyaaz!

Ahhh yes, I kinda wish I could relive my entire journey lol it's so amazing meeting people and discovering things even when the truth is difficult to accept! Allhumdulilah. (:

Well, i have been though many situations from being a sunni and converting to Shia. But one thing that happened to me the day after i converted, were actually a bit funny.

That day, i saw one of my friends that i havent seen for a couple of years, so she werent updated on what i have been upto, i didnt think about telling her it either because we were talking about old days and so on.

The topic came to Islam, and this friend of mine started to talk bad about Shia, literary curse us, RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. But just to see what ever she wanted to say, i listened. When she finished, i asked her if she wanted to hear the great news about me. And of course she were excited and said yes. Then i told her, im a Shia, and left the place.

I cant even describe how many apologizes i got on sms :P Right now i talk with her, and my goal were to teach her about Shia, which i did and she doesnt have the same hatred for us anymore.
