Salam Alaykum, I am a convert to Islam. My conversion story is here, http://www.justanotherabdullah.com/.../yusufs-road-to-islam-a-revert-story/. In any case I was wondering if there is proof that Shia Islam is true and that Sunnis are misguided. Also are sunnis kafirs and go straight to hellfire?

Salam.

Sunnis are also muslims but they have been misguided by some so called 'Sahaba' and Banu Umayyah'

see this

Sunnis that have returned to true Islam

see here:

I suggest you to see this; 'Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) left Quran and Ahl al-Bayt (as)

This is what we are following - '2 Caliphs' - Quran and Ahl al-Bayt (as)

Congratulations! I confirm you it is the clearest path to heaven, well done.

I won't talk bad about Shia nor Sunni but I can tell you both are misguided. If their intention is right, neither of them is going to hellfire.

If you haven't done so yet, I suggest you start reading the Quran first - it's amazing - before moving on to hadiths (historical tales).

Remember, maintaining islam = 5 pillars. Expect a few tests from God himself in the near future!

and Allah knows best~

What gives you the impression that both are 'misguided', atleast you could state a reason why you have reached this conclusion?

Are you one of those Qur'anist who say: "I am not this or that..." ?

Waleikum-salam, brother.

Your present your curiosity of faith in a way that shi'a Islam is not the truth. Therefore you must surely have been told that this is the case. Can you present us the reason why shi'a Islam is not truth, that have been narrated to you by people of other schism or faith? God-willing, we can explain it [what you do not know] for you and eradicated the falsehood, shattering the idols.

You will be given most the opinion of our brethren. However, you should therefore study about our faith through our books. Historical books has already been presented, check the earlier posts, and a library of other topics can be found here: al-Islam.org

As for your second question, the kafir are those who do not believe in the Oneness of God, no matter their faith. Furthermore, on the Day of Resurrection, God will ask us about your deeds and intentions, and our faith has an impact on our deeds and intentions, that is what is concered right and wrong, prohibited and lawful. Hence the many of hell are there due to their elders or scholars they followed.

Consequently, the so-called-shi'a has not been promised a freeway to Paradise, like the Jews claim for themselve, nor the so-called-sunni. The companions of Paradise are those who followed the Prophet (pbuh) to the letter, and his progeny (pbuh). Those who accompanied and worshiped the Taghut1 are the cursed and terrified on the Day of Judgement.

I am a shi'a - a lover and follower of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and his progeny (pbut) - and I affirmed their truthfulness through history and their narration. Verily, whosever listens to their narration will understand what a divulge and massive knowledge they have been blessed by their Lord. And it is excatly this wisdom that differiated Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) from the Taghut and other people. I therefore urge you to seek out their knowledge.

My brethren has given you historical facts about Ghadir and other events at the time of the Prophet. I urge you to read about what happened after the demise of the Prophet (pbuh) and the events of Karbala - connected to his (pbuh) grandson, Husayn (pbuh).

As for their knowledge you can read the book of Imam 'Ali (pbuh), Nahjul al-Balagha, which is available online. And about the entire progeny of Muhammad (pbut) through al-Islam.org

Lastly, concerning your second questions. The caliphate of the Sunni are Abu Bakr and 'Umar, Imam 'Ali (pbuh), and 'Uthman. The Shi'a has twelve caliphate from Imam 'Ali (pbuh) to his elven descendents (pbut). As I already mentioned earlier, our elderly and scholars are those who will guide you to the hellfire or paradise. You can only know the truth about Sunni and Shi'a by probing in the lifes of our caliphate and compare their knowledge of the Quran - which contains the laws of the prohibited and lawful - and their wisdom.

All praise is due to God - the One whom we attain success and prosperity by - and may God bless Muhammad and his progeny (pbut).

1The Taghut are people who claim [prophethood and] falsehood against God and His Messenger, refereed to here:

[31:33] and be not deceived about Allah by the Deceiver.

Salaam bro,

I have little time to read your story, but I've saved it for later.

just wanted to congratulate you on finding the right path and on questioning the legitimacy of your choice :)

Difference between shia and sunni is wether God chose the 12 caliphs or People choose the (4? 6? ) caliphs. As you have read above it all comes down to the hadith of Gadeer Khum, study that! Also whenever you see some freaky uncomfortable thing that is attributed to shia it probably isn't true ( we have the same quran, we follow the sunnah, there's only one God Allah the all mighty, we don't have a tail...)

Here are some illustrations I made earlier, they come very handy now :D

I'll leave you with this one

Peace be uppon you brother!

Salam Alikum brother,

Mubarak (congratulations) on your reversion. Brother first thing you need to understand is our ultimate goal in life is to reach the perfection that Allah (swt) wants from us. That perfection means to remove any sort of filth that we have within us and become his sincere servants. It means to remove sins such as lying, stealing, fornication etc and follow the path He wants us to follow, which we refer to as Siratul Mustaqeem (the straight path) in our prayers.

This is the purpose of creation, be it Christians, Jews, Hindus, Atheists, Muslims (sunni, shia).

Once you understand that, then you can start researching on what school of thought focuses on this. Is our purpose to just do 5 things as reffered by Wings? Or does Allah (swt) wants us to ultimately reach the stage where we live each of our moments remembering Him (swt) so He can keep increasing His mercy on us. These are some basic things to ponder over, and once you get that you can look into both sects.

When you research Shia Islam, you have to refer to the Imams (as) as they are the ones who are perfect in every sense there is. They are infallible, and we refer to them in every aspect of our life. You should read up on their lives to understand what Islam truly means.

As Imam Ali (as) said Islam is nothing but submission to the will of Allah ÓÈÍÇäå æÊÚÇáì.

1. Read Quran for understanding without any shia or sunni commentary.

2. Learn Arabic as per your capacity because Quran is in Arabic.

3. If you don't know Arabic compare different versions of translations of Quran, because different sects manipulate the translations of Quran to serve their purpose.

4. Avoid hadith from both sunni and shia sources, they will misguide you. (Hadith is for those who have their religion established via Quran.)

5. And above everything, pray to Allah for guidance, because only Allah will guide you.

Salam ! As ur well wisher i suggest u to first learn quran, compare suni and shia sect with the book of truth and I bet that u will choose sunni. As sunni is the only sect which gets fixed on quran. There are many flaws in shism which are not found in quran just like their grand concept IMAMAT on which the shism is based! Allah ordered us to strictly h0ld Allah's rope and by this he means QURAN, so if u wana hold quran than stay away 4rm shism :-) .. And it has been also proven from hadiths of Prophet that majority of this ummah will be on right path and also there are some indications from the event of mairaj that majority of this ummah are on ryt path. Read ' waqiyah mairaj' in detail, u will understand :-)

Asalam Alykum,

I would like to add to what Azaan Shah said but in a more logical approach. I am trying to be a Shia of the 12 Imams (A.S.). Alhamdulillah, I do not value those who waged war against the righteous. But my opinions do not come from family. Additionally, Azaan Shah has neglected to advise that the first step to trying to understand the Quran is to learn the Arabic completely, Quranic Arabic. That will take years and inshAllah, I pray to Allah you all and I are successful in doing so. Thereafter you can conduct your research in proper manner. The most fundamental issue that people forget when they are reading a translation is that the translation is from someone else and that translation may not be as exact as its intended because as you are aware some words exist in some languages which require a sentence in another language to describe. I recommend though that while you are learning Arabic like I am, to research into who are the Shia, watch this lecture:

About the majority in the right path according to Azaan Shah, its obvious he hasn't read the Surah Waqiah yet. I recommend you calm down and before referring to Sunnah, refer to the Quran. Additionally, where did the word sunni derive from? Yusuf Estes answers the problem with sects quite beautifully:

My favorite speakers are: Hassanain Rajab Ali, Amar Nakhswani and Yusuf Estes.

My reasoning is that these speakers are Muslims. True Muslims. They do not go around belittling people because of sects. They don't say such or such school of though is mislead though they recognize the differences in rulings.

My personal opinion of the matter is very simple. I follow the 12 Imams (A.S.) because its logical. In Islam, we don't have house of Lords like English judicial system where few people sit and decide laws or leaders etc. That rules out the system that majority follow. Secondly, if that rule was right and Imam Ali (A.S.) was selected correctly, even then his ruling should be followed and those who rebelled must be always remembered that they attempted a coup against the rightly chosen. Additionally, those who say that if was all a misunderstanding need to start thinking because those who raised their swords in "misunderstanding" are answerable to Allah for the blood of so many. It is not Islamic to wage a war based on misunderstandings. Every war has a motive, no matter how trivial it maybe. Also after the war Muawiyah once in power didn't punish the killers of third caliph so then what was his true motive?

Finally, whenever there was a war at the time of the Prophet Muhammed (S.A.W.) women and children and working men where spared always with dignity and respect. Let me ask you to look at Pakistan. Who are getting killed? Shias who are working men, women or children. Why? What is their fault? And if the majority of the country is sunni then why is there so much corruption in Pakistan? Lets look at Arabia, retitled Saudi Arabia. They have so much wealth that they are building giant structures and even own a lot of land and companies in the UK. Why do they not invest in other Islamic countries? Why don't they donate to poor countries like Ethiopia? What would the Prophet (S.A.W.) would have done? Bought a Lamborghini or donated the money?

Verily it is very easy to give titles but you must research very carefully. I would never called a Sunni, Wahabi or even a Christian or Jew etc a kafir because I cannot judge an individual. Only Allah can. Yet you have these people who are giving clear fatwas against Shias. They are waging a war against the Quran because Allah says he is the best of Judge. Why so much hate? You see one video on youtube and you assuming thats our practice. Research your own sect you will find the same. There are silly people everywhere but that does not mean the theology and philosophical standing on the school of thought is fundamentalist.

I am proud to be a servant of the Ahl ul Bayt and I hope they accept my service. I am proud to follow the reasoning of the Prophet (S.A.W.)'s family. If you live in the west or if you research how election system happens, its always the powerful who control it. Such as BP funds either side and the winner must then return the favor. Hence corporations "gift" or "donate" money to a political party and that powers the campaign and have a strong say. In the end, it wasn't the Ummah's decision to elect a caliph. Even if it was then only a small group of powerful men sat and decided what to do. And they did that while Imam Ali (A.S.) was busy burying the Prophet (S.A.W.).

Think carefully and do not let emotions cloud your judgement. Surely we all have the same enemy who is Shytan. Do not give strong labels because Shytan can use the strength against you. May Allah help us and guide us and forgive us.

Ma'Salam.
