Silver =d (and Other Precious Metals)

Is anyone else investing in silver (or other precious metals)?

I *just* purchased my very first piece. It is an American Silver Eagle. 1 troy ounce. I bought it from a local coin shoppe. They charged $5 over spot, which came to a total of $35.72 USD. I think the premium is a little high, but I was so excited to have the silver to worry about it. In the future I'll probably buy online. My goal for now is one troy ounce per month, although that may be difficult. I don't know. But I'm really happy right now. I got a 2011 coin, which is a little disappointing. I didn't think to look at the dates when he gave me the bucket to go through. I just picked a shiny one :P I was hoping to get a 2012 coin for my very first one, just to symbolize my commitment. Oh well, it's not like it matters :P The shop keeper was really nice. He gave me some pointers on collecting and told me to keep an eye out for certain years because they are much more valuable (not because of silver content - they're all the same, but because of rarity). If I found one, I would honestly probably just sell it to buy more silver, just because I am only interested in having a stock of silver - I don't care about rare coins.

So what about other people? Do any of you buy silver? Got any tips for keeping it? How do you store it?

I was expecting to see a silver eagle statue, not coins. Who is the woman in the coin?

I like this depiction of her more than the actual statue. She appears more graceful in this one.
