I was reading things online and I am confused about travelling rules and fasting during the month of Ramadhan.

Last Monday, I left my house at 10:30am (after fajr) to reach my parents' house around 1:15pm (after zhur), which is about 145 km (90 miles) away from my house. I left my parents' house Tuesday afternoon at 5pm to reach my house at about 7pm. I fasted on both Monday and Tuesday. When I'm at my parents' house, I always offer full prayers.

Were my fasts valid or do I have to make them up?

What is the limit (km/mi) for it to be considered a travel?

Am I supposed to offer shortened prayers when i go to my parents'?

Jazakallah Khairan for your answers!

Assalaamu aleikum

The holy Qur'an came to us as a guide book. There are many hadiths that we should ponder over the verses of the Qur'an. That thinking them through is much more valuable than just plain worship. There was one this hadith I heard from Ammar Nakshawani from his new lectures of this ramadhan(Insha'Allah you all will watch them, they are very valuable to every muslim), that said in a nutshell the following: 1 hour of pondering over the verses of the Qur'an, is equal to 7months to 70 years of fasting and worship, depending on which verses of the Qur'an. Please watch the lectures of ammar in youtube to fully understand this. Just search "the abandoned Quran ammar nakshawani" and you can't miss it. That is the first of the lectures and by watching the first 3 of the series of this ramadhan, you will have so much more valuable knowledge. I have made a conclusion that travelling during fasting broke the fast in those early days because it needed strenght to walk or ride a camel. So to help people who were fasting, and they had to travel, Allah gave them the ease of not having to fast and offering shortened prayers for the travelling to go quicker and easier.

I think that when one travels with a car, bus, train, airplane or something else that you have to just sit and it doesn't need much energy from you, these rulings of travelling don't apply.

I.e. if I drive a car for 200km to some place and then come back the same 200km, it doesn't make me any more tired than just sitting at home typing this (Yes, I tried). And I believe that in the early days when there was no easy way to travel like in these days, travelling made you a lot more tired than it makes you novadays, and 'cause this religion is meant to bring ease and not hardship, the rulings of fasting were easier for a travelling person, in order to keep their body and mind functioning.

Think yourself, which one is better. A full prayer or a shortened one.

There is no way that a shortened prayer goes above the entire one if there is no harm of performing the entire one.

I am going to a family members house which is about 400 miles away to help them out. I understand that I should not fast BUT the problem is my mother (who is sunni) will be upset with me if I dont. Now i am stuck as to what to do.

Dont fast, make my mother upset ( sunnis fast when away, juat on the journey itself)

Or

Fast, because i cant go against the ruling.

Is there a way of meeting in the middle? Could i fast with the intention of it being Nafil, (mother's happy) and make up for the those fasts later on in the year. Or are nafil fasts also not allowed during travel?

Is there any chance you're going to stay there for more than 10 days? If that's the case, there's no need to miss the fast(s).

Furthermore, why should your mother know that you're fasting or not? It's between you and your God. Don't eat/drink in front of her. Besides, it's recommended to respect the spirit of Shahr Ramadan if one is not fasting so you shouldn't exactly be found eating by anyone anyway and should avoid eating/drinking even if you're not fasting.
