Salamu Alaykum,

I just wanted to do some market research. I am starting a business for Muslim T shirts and am planning to have a quote from one of the ahlulbayt or the prophets on the back of the t shirt and the person who said the quote on the front written in caligraphy.

I wondered would people be interested in t shirts like this? What quotes would you be interested in having on t shirts?

Thanks very much,

Ali.

HAHA ive been wearing a hoody with a quote from Imam Ali for the past 2 years and never had any problems hamdillah. These quotes will apply to everyone not just muslims. Mind opening quotes to get people thinking. The hill billys you refer to wont even be able to understand it properly.

and thank you for the input ismi_ali :D

For starting a business its a really good idea no doubt. But the problem with wearing such shirts is extreme care one has to worry about. For example: cant wear it to bathroom so have to change it all the time, cant let hindus/sikhs/atheist etc rub against it (unintentional or intentional).

One of my friend has a shirt that says Mehdi (as) and the poor fellow has to take it off everytime he has to go to bathroom to even do his Wudhu. That might be a drawback and people might not buy them.

Wa Alaikumus Salam,

There are other businesses out there which offer Muslim Ts which you can look to for a market study. I would warn against copying another companies items such as the keep calm as you open yourself up to potential issues.

I've also seen them at Islamic conferences and those companies do well as young teens and college students are looking for a means of expressing their Muslim identity.

I dont think this is the case, it should not be haram to have the name when you go the the toilet. That is only the case with the name of Allah swt or a verse from the quran. I will contact scholars though to confirm this.

it might be worth taking a look at the muslim tshirt businesses and studying their strategies and their customers without copying of course. Here's an example of one: http://www.designmolvi.com/

to be honest, I would wear something with a good quote not a T-shirt maybe a hoodi?

I know of 3 or 4 muslim youths shia and sunni that have a clothing label that are in the north east united states. here is a link to one of there websites http://profoundaesthetic.com/ The only problem is that you have to go all the way. you cannot just take a shirt and write quotes on it. there is no copyright. that is just block text on a shirt. anybody can take that quote or just buy a shirt and make copies of it its easy and there is no "BRAND". you have to start a name brand. make a logo and make a specific design that is on all or most of these tee's

It's a really interesting idea but I have a few reservations.. If the shirt gets dirty, can we put it in the wash with dirty clothes or will we have to wash by hand?

I don't think it's ok to throw something that has say, "Muhammad" written in Arabic on the floor/in the laundry basket. Just wondering! And what do you do with it once it's worn out? You can't really throw away something like that..
