Roots.

Watched in 1978, so not recently

Highly recommended.

This is one of the very few slavery-themed dramas I remember being produced, and I was worried that it was somehow culturally cancelled; so it's great to see it still being available.

This is where we are about a year into the story

Give it 1-2 years, and. movie production will have been completely upended. Time now folks to start writing scripts for those Islamic 'Hollywood' blockbusters you never dreamed could be made.

Hi guys I recently watched the new Willy Wonka film. I personally didn't like it. I feel as though this new guy didn't do justice. I love the original with Gene Wilder. It's my favourite film ever as I believe Willy Wonka was a sufi.

Anyways I suppose this is off topic but then again this is in the OFF TOPIC section

Good one to watch when you are cold and hungry

I used to read 'A day in the life of Ivan Denisovich' at school in the playground during breaktimes in the winter and the story resonated better that way.

Same would go for this, I think.

If you don't know the plot already, you've been living in a cave, so spoiler alert. The survivors of an air-crash eat the dead to stay alive (true story).

Pignorant

This is on Amazon Prime and is about animal welfare in the UKs pig industry. The focus is the use of carbon dioxide gassing as a means of 'humane' slaughter. The latter is a claim made by the industry.

The animal rights activists who made the film challenge this by putting CCTV cameras down into the chambers where the gassing takes place to show what the pigs go through.

It is not pleasant and goes on for several minutes.

Worth remembering when we are next sent on a guilt trip about halal slaughter. I saw the latter with my own eyes a few weeks ago in Oman. Within a couple of seconds, it is all over. The pens seemed reasonably decent too.

I am watching middle eastern tv shows because I’m bored.

My summer vacation has just started and I’m currently looking for a job/internship to waste my time doing something for my future. But for now I will watch during the day some middle eastern show and during nigh I will watch some horror movies with my father and my aunt.

An entertaining look at psychology and business

The context is the arrival of synthetic diamonds as competition for the real thing. Well worth watching, if for no other reason than helping you decide how much to spend on diamonds.

No other land

This film made by a Palestinian-Israeli collective shows the destruction of the West Bank’s Masafer Yatta by Israel's occupation and the unlikely alliance which develops between the Palestinian activist Basel and Israeli journalist Yuval.

Having read the reviews there was no way I was going to pay to watch this. And I am glad that I did not - just caught it for free on a streaming service.

It is a good family-friendly view.

It never ceases to amaze me how films like this actually get made. The budget here was $45million. That means a lot of eyeballs assessing whether it would likely make a return on its money.

How could so many people get it so badly wrong? It's a film where not a lot happens. You could tell from looking at the script - without spending a penny.

Reading some background gave me grounds to speculate what likely went wrong.

The scriptwriters previously wrote the script for 'A Quiet Place', which had a budget of $17m and grossed $341m. So you can imagine the pitch. Invest in these guys' latest script, and you can get your money back 20x.

Lions for Lambs

Might have reviewed this previously. Anyway it's good and family friendly. It's really a series of dialogues even monologues held together with 'live action' in the loosest sense of the term. So if you want a war movie - this ain't it.

But if you want some ideas kicking around about the 'War on Terror' then it's ok, especially for younger family members. It's directed by Robert Redford and Meryl Streep has a strong role so you know the perspective will be reasonable.
