I heard briefly about "The Moores" on a documentary. They were a group of muslims who did not cause any trouble and lived along side many christians in a christian society who benefited from The Moores scientific research and designs. Then The King and queen attacked them and took over all The Moore's accomplished works. I was wondering just how significant were "The Moores" to Islam and what exzactly were there specific beliefs? If any one knows.

The Moors were not only blacks of Africa but also the Arabs and the red hair and green eyes Berber.

They were referred to as heathens by the Medieval Christians.

Both the Moors and the Sephardic Jews were important people when it came to developing Spanish culture.

Interestingly enough lol the name "Omar" was entered in the Spanish vernacular for boy names when moors eventually mixed in with the Spaniards. I've even heard rumors of moon symbols and pendants entering indigenous cultures in the Americas all thanks to Moors who brought these ideas with them on the ships when they were sailing side to side with Sephardic Jews and Catholic Spaniards.

Moors was a generic term that the Christians used for Muslims of North Africa. Amongst the various kingdoms there were Sunni, Ommayad, Shia and even Khariji Kingdoms.

I dont believe the Christians particularly bothered differentiating between them

Fatima might also be because of the town fatima in Portugal which is a pilgrimage site rather then a name come into being due to popular usage

I am interested in the black moors too. But I was talking about the Moores who lived in Spain and were used for their intellect for years to contribute to the christian kingdom who then turned it's back on them and killed them taking over their uniquely built mosques and making them into churches.

Salam name of Fatima has been existed in Andalus until now because of migration of some Shias after defeating Shia governments in Tunisia & Maghrib (Morocco)  which Shias have been exiled into Andalus after fall of their governments in Tunisia & Maghrib (Morocco) which they have preserved their faith & tradition even they could establish  Idrisid Dynasty which has been a Moroccan dynasty with alliance of Berberswhich has had some Shia inclination  which Idris Dynasty have called themselves as descendants of Imam Hasan (عليه السلام) ;

which it has been said that the city of Fatima has been established by a group of Shia Muslims ; which later has been turned into Christian city after fall of Andalus which it's citizens have been forcefully have been converted to Christianity  so therefore popularity of name fo Fatima has been popular since entering Muslims into Andalus which later incident of town of Fatima has caused reviving popularity of her name .

It has not been used for cursed Umayyads because they always have used racial apartheid of separating themselves as so called "elite Arabs"  from rest of people even from Muslims of north Africa & Yemenis who have migrated to Andalus .

In Portugal, mouro (feminine, moura) may refer to supernatural beings known as enchanted moura, where "Moor" implies "alien" and "non-Christian". These beings were siren-like fairies with golden or reddish hair and a fair face. They were believed to have magical properties.[27] From this root, the name moor is applied to unbaptized children, meaning not Christian.[28][29] In Basque, mairu means moor and also refers to a mythical people.[30]

Moreno can mean "dark-skinned" in Spain, Portugal, Brazil, and the Philippines. Also in Spanish, morapio is a humorous name for "wine", especially that which has not been "baptized" or mixed with water, i.e., pure unadulterated wine. Among Spanish speakers, moro came to have a broader meaning, applied to both Filipino Moros from Mindanao, and the moriscos of Granada. Moro refers to all things dark, as in "Moor", moreno, etc. It was also used as a nickname; for instance, the Milanese Duke Ludovico Sforza was called Il Moro because of his dark complexion.[26]

It has no correlation to Moores of Andalus which so called "Moorish Science Temple" has been invention founders of NOI for calling themselves as black inheritors of hidden science because term of Moor has been used for some black skinned & north African muslims of Andalus which you can find Berbers , Amazigh even some people with Iranian roots between them who have migrated to north Africa during Fatimid period   .

The Moros people were originally residents of the Roman province of Mauritania, which includes northwestern Algeria and northern Maghreb. They invaded the Iberian Peninsula in the eighth century AH. Following the establishment of the Umayyad caliphates and Marabouts (A marabout is a Muslim religious leader and teacher in West Africa, and in the Maghreb.), the Moros established the largest Arab-Andalusian civilization in cities such as Cordoba, Toledo, Granada and Sebia.

The area was under Islamic ruling until 760, when the Franks came from the French territories and gradually began to occupy it, until in 801 they took full control of the area.

The region of Catalonia is one of the regions of Spain that witnessed the presence of Muslims during the flourishing of Islamic civilization in Andalusia. At that time, Spain was not essentially part of Andalusia, which is now called the province of Andalusia. Spain became part of Islamic Andalusia after the Moros (Spanish Muslims of Arab-Spanish-Berber descent) took control of it in 718 AD.

History: How African Muslims “Civilized Spain”

Quote

One the most famous British historians Basil Davidson, noted that during the eighth century there was no land “more admired by its neighbours, or more comfortable to live in, than a rich African civilization which took shape in Spain”.

The Moors were unquestionably Black and the 16th century English playwright William Shakespeareused the word Moor as a synonym for African.

In Europe’s great Age of Exploration, Spain and Portugal were the leaders in global seafaring. It was the Moorish advances in navigational technology such as the astrolabe and sextant, as well as their improvements in cartography and shipbuilding, that paved the way for the Age of Exploration. Thus, the era of Western global dominance of the past half-millennium originated from the African Moorish sailors of the Iberian Peninsula during the 1300s.

Long before Spanish Monarchs commissioned Columbus’ search for land to the West, African Muslims, amongst others, had long since established significant contact with the Americas and left a lasting impression on Native culture.

One can only wonder how Columbus could have discovered America when a highly civilised and sophisticated people were watching him arrive from America’s shores?

An overwhelming body of new evidence is emerging which proves that Africans had frequently sailed across the Atlantic to the Americas, thousands of years before Columbus and indeed before Christ. Dr. Barry Fell of Harvard University highlights an array of evidence of Muslims in America before Columbus from sculptures, oral traditions, coins, eye-witness reports, ancient artifacts, Arabic documents and inscriptions.

The strongest evidence of African presence in America before Columbus comes from the pen of Columbus himself. In 1920, a renowned American historian and linguist, Leo Weiner of Harvard University, in his book, Africa and the Discovery of America, explained how Columbus noted in his journal that Native Americans had confirmed that,

Quote

“BLACK SKINNED PEOPLE HAD COME FROM THE SOUTH-EAST IN BOATS, TRADING IN GOLD-TIPPED SPEARS.”

Muslim Spain not only collected and perpetuated the intellectual advances of Ancient Egypt, Greece and Roman civilisation, it also expanded on that civilisation and made its own vital contributions in fields ranging from astronomy, pharmacology, maritime navigation, architecture and law.

The centuries old impression given by some Western scholars that the African continent made little or no contributions to civilization, and that its people are naturally primitive has, unfortunately, became the basis of racial prejudice, slavery, colonialism and the ongoing economic oppression of Africa. If Africans re-write their true history, they will reveal a glory that they will inevitably seek to recapture. After all, the greatest threat towards Africa having a glorious future is her people’s ignorance of Africa’s glorious past.

In the realm of mathematics, the number zero (0), the Arabic numerals, and the decimal system were all introduced to Europe by Muslims, assisting them to solve problems far more quickly and accurately and laying the foundation for the Scientific Revolution.

The Moors’ scientific curiosity extended to flight and polymath, Ibn Firnas, made the world’s first scientific attempt to fly in a controlled manner, in 875 A.D. Historical archives suggest that his attempt worked, but his landing was somewhat less successful. Africans took to the skies some six centuries before the Italian Leonardo Da Vinci developed a hang glider.

Clearly, the Moors helped to lift the general European populace out of the Dark Ages, and paved the way for the Renaissance period. In fact, a large number of the traits on which modern Europe prides itself came to it from Muslim Spain, namely, free trade, diplomacy, open borders, etiquette, advanced seafaring, research methods, and key advances in chemistry.
