High Tension in Lebanon after Death of Sheikh Abdul Wahid

Local Editor

Several areas in Lebanon are witnessing high tension with roads being cut and gunshots heard after the Lebanese army fired at a convoy of cars which declined to stop at an army checkpoint in the town of Alkwykhat in Akkar, which led to the killing of Sheikh Ahmed Abdul Wahid and one his bodyguards.

The National News agency said that "Sheikh Abdul Wahid, a was heading with an armed convoy to the city of Halba in the Akkar district to participate in the ceremony which was held there against the regime in Syria," and pointed out that "upon the arrival of Sheikh Abdul Wahid's convoy at the army checkpoint, he was ordered to stop but declined to then the soldiers fired at the car what led to the death of Abdel Wahid and his bodyguard Mohammed Hussein Moreb."

Armed groups set fire to tyres to cut off several roads in North Lebanon in protest, including a road leading to Syria. Similar scenes were repeated across the Lebanese regions; in parts of Beirut, in the northern Akkar region and in the eastern Bekaa valley where angry protesters set tyres ablaze to cut off roads

Army and police were trying to re-open roads in an apparent bid to ease tension in the country.

Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Miqati appealed for calm as the army said it had opened an investigation. Miqati chaired a security meeting and later urged the Lebanese, particularly residents of Tripoli, to show restraint and "act wisely." PM Miqati stressed the need to reopen roads and not to attack private and public properties

What were they thinking speeding through a check point ? This lawlessness has to stop !!! Im glad the leb army is doing their job

Their are people in the lebanese government and their supporters, trying to sow sectarian fitnah and chaos in lebanon to protect thier benfectors in syria, everyone knows who they are, the people who cheer at the murder of an innocent sheikh and his body guard, the people who were happy when cars bombs and bullets killed lebanese leaders, but lebanon is greater then them , and their fitnah and the terroists will be met by defeate in democracy and any place else were they can't just kill their way to victory.......

The Sheikh was cruising in a new Range Rover with another Sheikh, apparently on their way to a Jamaa islamiya convention.

There is now fighting in Tariq al Jidideh (Sunni Quarter) in Beirut.

Looks like Lebanon is going to the abyss.

You must miss the good old days when sunnis and christians ran Lebanon. Shine my shoe Shia boy, build my road Shia boy, clean my house Shia girl and don't expect the Lebanese army to protect you from PLO or Israel. Beware of who you step on.

I doubt it. They are fighting in the Sunni quarter, the minute it spills into the Hezbollah sector - game over.

I have to agree. People seem to seriously give salafists and the tripolians more credit then they deserve. They are like ALL their ideoligical counter parts

FAILURES. Seriously the only thing they are good at is making Islam look bad, putting rugs over women, not let them drive cars, and setting off bombs in super markets.

Dont under estimate the Shia quaters too... People think Hezbollah are an issue ? you would Amal to deal with. They usually take care of most street issues any ways.

Either way its unfortunate because its the alawites and Christians that are going to copp it the most. Not the Shia our only problem is Israel lol

I believe Shias in Lebanon have two problems, not the 'only' problem. The biggest one is the internal problem, the Salafists-&-Puppet 14 problem, then the Israeli problem.

AND, when Alawites face genocide from the hands of Zionist puppets and Saudis dogs, the Shias will not consider that as one of their problems? Alawites are hated because of their Shiism background. Within a country be it the Alawites, the Christians or Sunnis, anyone who will face unjust massacre that is the problem of all and should step in to prevent it.

Back to the topic; at the moment the army is doing a good job. It is preventing people from taking things in their own hands. If the army let one part of Lebanon to be a weapons' smuggling route for the terrorists in Syria, then the other parts will step in to confront them. So, the army must prevent people of Lebanon to take part in another country's conflict, especially in such a sectarian divide that Lebanon lives by.

Brother its not as simple as that i wish it were lol

Im pretty sure the alawites can hold their own against the sunnies up north and so can the christians . If anything in a country like lebanon, do you think the sunnis will get away with that sort of behViour ? Honestly as bad and un islamic as i may sound, that whole northen part of lebanon kind of deserve to get their hands dirty. While we were getting slaughtered in the south, no electricity, no clean water, no clean meat ( bec elec keeps cutting out) they were all busy drinking coffee at star bucks and playing WOW online and growing their hair listening to wa2el kfouri and 3amr dyeb..

Its about time they got their hands dirty and we will offer those who supported us with blood our blood and those who with words our words.

Trust me the salafists are hopeless they can not and will not be able to cause a massive stir in lebanon. We had our civil war when the rest of the ME were still riding camels . Trust me its lebanon is alot diff to iraq or syria.

Let those salafist make a scene and scream a little louder, we are lebs not Iraqis thr second they cross the line they will be put in their place.

No neeed to worry brother we got sh*t locked down here :P

rick james so you are a member of hezbollah and from south lebanon, and faced the isralie occupation ?

and whats an armed convey, how many cars did he have, were their machine guns on their cars, most lebanese figures have bodyguards is that an armed convey, and if it was an armed convey why did that armed covney not fire back at the "soldires" who murdered the sheikh, the news is not very clear ? and people should understand that it is because of saad hariri and people like ahmed fatfat and the ulmea of the north that a horrible tragety does not occur, and lebanon does not explode .

It is very sad. Regardless of his political views, no one should be killed (assassinated like this) if what you are saying is true that his car did not confront the army with guns. If the car failed to stop, they should have used different methods to attack and disable the car to stop it.

And as it is not clear how this attack began, it is also not clear who was behind it if anyone did it intentionally for a different reason. It could be a third party who simply wants to incite sectarian conflict and hatreds in Lebanon to drag it into the Syrian conflict and impose a civil war.

God knows the best!

Rick i'm in the usa by the way, i'm from beirut, and the cia lol, i also work for the m16, kgb, the illuminati and the mossad, you forgot to mention that, a long with your very long credentials i am sure in the "resistance".

Noah their are problems in lebanon with sunnis, their are dangerous people who have come into prominence after saad hariri left lebanon, due to threats against him, and now lebanon is missing saad hariri and moderate voices who can calm such a situation, i saw omar bakri on tv during this and it is scary that a lunatic like him or ahmed assir has influence with sunnis and can make a dangerous situation more dangerous.

What kind of threats against Harriri? From what I remember he lost his government and the other Sunni PM was appointed, he then fled.

And isn't this the work of Harriri who like other politicians when lost big, then created problems; I mean by bringing in more Sunni Salafis and enabling Saudis funding in Sunni areas to create a mess once his own government failed to proceed?

Their have been constant threats against him and after he left the government their were some immediate threats against him that forced him to leave lebanon, to protect his life and the life of his family. . And salafis in lebanon don't support saad hariri they have their own groups and one of the most now prominent of them ahmed assir is known to be against saad hariri. also saudis don't fund sunni areas because if they did north of lebanon would not be as poor as it is, their are many extreamly rich sunnis as their is poor, manny sunni's in lebanon are actually quite poor and are drawn to an ignorant ideology like salafism, also it was the government of fouad sanoura who confronted the syrian funded the terroists of naher el bared...

His convoy did not stop, the army shot at him, his bodyguards shot back... How can some of the army official be injured if they had not been shot at?

The fault is on both sides but more on the deceased...

1- His convoy did not stop at an army checkpoint while the atmosphere has been very tense in Lebanon for the past days. (His Fault).

2- The army fired directly, instead of shooting the tires only at least, but well GOD only knows how fast the Sheikh's convoy was going. (Army's Fault).

3- Yet after the Army shooting at them, they still did not stop and instead his guards fired back at the Army. (His Fault many folds, huge mistake).

4- After they were put to a stop and they had died, mass amounts of weapons and ammo were found in the Sheikh's convoys, where to? (His Fault)

This is so clear so stop protecting him just because he's a so-called Sunni, Noura, if it had been a Hezbollah official in his position that did the same thing and got killed by the army, you and your likes would be rejoicing now and moaning "It's Hezbollah's fault! They must disarm! Weapons are only supposed to be in the hands of the Army in Lebanon!" Give it a rest and stop being biased and illogical...

Peace

Hezbollah is a resistance. How could we not resist the oppressors, the infiltrators and the enemies of Islam? The enemies of Arabs? Have you watched a broadcast by Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah lately? Most of his speeches are about unity between Sunnis, Shias and Christians.

I respect your political opinion but please don't give out false information, because frankly, that's lying.

Dont under estimate the Shia quaters too... People think Hezbollah are an issue ? you would Amal to deal with. They usually take care of most street issues any ways.

Yeah like in 2008. Beirut Salafis couldn't last for three hours.

Salafis and Salifism is a cancer that threatens us all.

These are people who are totally brainwashed into being zombies, especially the youth.

I think this Sheikh died under very questionable circumstances, but he was also involved in some questionable activities, especially with the refugees - the ones who do not show their face.

He was also on his way to an event held by Khaled Daher to commemerate some people killed by the SSNP, this event was timed the same day as the one held by SSNP to commemerate the victims of the Halba massacre by Future Movement supporters.

It should also be noted this Sheikh was rolling in a convey of four new Range Rovers... and when I say "Sheikh" I am not talking about an Emirati style one. Where did he get the money?

Does anyone know how true the news that HizbAllah sent a black car to get shaker berjoui out of his building ?

It was false rumor, The pro saudi networks hate unity, thats why they want to make out that hezbollah are the ones that are propping up pro resistance allies, apparently the mourabitoun party were the ones that got him out.

While its harsh the sheik was killed, This was still nothing more than a aggressive stunt to intimidate the Lebanese army during a tense time, which backfired against the sheik and his convey.

What makes you think he was killed by his fellow Sunnis in the Mourabitoun?

I read that the soldier who shot him was a Christian, which could obviously be false.

Anyhow, if it was a fellow Sunni group which killed the Sheikh, it would be the best outcome - less dangerous sectarian wise.

the driver of sheikh wahed told the opposite, that the sheikh stoped at the chekpoint, and the "soldiers" insulted him and so he turned the car around and then the "soldiers" shot at his car and murdered him and sheikh mereb. and if this is true the soldires should be prosecutred. also 4 unarmored range rovers now make up an "armed" "convoy".

I was replying to "Martydom" on the incidents on what happend in Beirut the other day."Martydom" asked weather hezbollah were the ones that escorted berjoui out of his building, i replied it was all rumors and that it was infact the mourabitoun that helped him and his collegues escape before the mustaqbal thugs burned down their headquarters.
