A Damning Sunnee Admission On Khilaafah

I found this beautiful admission by the Ahl al-Sunnah on what really happened at Ghadeer Khumm:

“According to the elders of our family, namely Mawlana Ghulam ‘Ali Qadiri, in his Mishkaat an-Nabuwat, the Prophet’s declaring Hadrat ‘Ali as the Master (Mawla) of all Believers was the statement which identified Hadrat ‘Ali as the possessor of the Khilafat i-Akbar (Major Khilafah). Hadrat ‘Ali was appointed by Rasulullah (S) as a Khalifa, while Hadrat Abu Bakr was appointed by Hadrat Umar as a Khalifa. While both Khilafahs are valid, they are not the same”.

They are sufi (Naqshbandi) and this belief of the superiority of Imam Ali over Abu Bakr is generally typical of sufi beliefs so I think your question needs to be refined as not all sunnis are sufis and therefore wont accept this view.

This is NOT just about the superiority of Imaam 'Alee (as) over Aboo Bakr and 'Umar. My emphasis is on whether what happened at Ghadeer Khumm was an appointment of Khilaafah or not.

Moreover, most of the Ahl al-Sunnah are Soofees anyway.

The political wilayah (which I assume they call Khilafat Sughra) was given to Abi Bakr, while the spiritual wilayah was given to Imam `Ali [as]. I think the most interesting point is that why did it need to be split? It eventually leads to one person holding both authorities again, anyway.

You are very correct.

But, in these days, one sees even Soofees claiming that what happened on Ghadeer Khumm was only a declaration of the friendship of Imaam 'Alee (as) with the Muslim Ummah. I have had personal experiences of this.

I think the Soofees are gradually being Salafized, although they do not seem to realize or admit this.

Yes, but since they have 1) spiritual leadership and 2) temporal leadership they have no problem reconciling between the two. Also, I wouldn't say that "most of the Ahl al-Sunnah are Soofees anyway." because while they may have certain shared views/beliefs it's not that black and white. How many sunnis identify themselves belonging to a particular tariqa?

Add to this the accusation that sufis have weak hadiths they follow further complicates this view that Ghadeer Khumm was in fact a declaration of the spirutal caliphate of Imam Ali.

As to your last point in the post above, the propogation of the salafi thought and availibility of published material is obviously doing wonders in eliminating differences of opinions on this matter.

Now, you are coming to my intention for opening this thread in the first place! Allaah has declared the Prophet (pbuh) to be the mawlaa of all believers in the Qur'aan (33:6):

النَّبِيُّ أَوْلَىٰ بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ مِنْ أَنْفُسِهِمْ ۖ

[Shakir 33:6] The Prophet has a greater claim on the faithful than they have on themselves.

Now, please tell me: does this verse only mean that the Prophet (pbuh) is the spiritual master of the believers?

i guess it has 23 meanings in arabic

so why do sunnis say it is friend @ghadeer khum

without actually putting it in the context
