Every Shia Must Have This Book!

As salaam Wa alaykum brothers & sisters.

Recently I was listening to a lecture given by Seyed Ammar Nakswani and in the lecture he spoke about how some people bash Islam because they have nothing written about the Prophet (pbuh) until 150 after his death... At first I was confused and even more confused when Nakshwani then said they have a point and the Sunni Sahih hadiths and other ones like that were compiled around 150 years after the prophets (pbuh) death... But then he mentioned a book called "kitab-e-sulaym ibn Qays al Hilali"

He said that this was the first book of hadiths compiled by one of the companions of RasulAllah (saws) and AhlulBayt only 50 years after the death of the prophet.

He then mentioned a hadtih from Imam As-Sadiq (as)

"If anyone of our Shia does not have the book of Sulaym Ibn Qays Al Hilali, then he does not have any of our things and does not know an of our matters."

Perhaps some of you already have this book but for those who don't, I want to share it with you so inshAllah all the followers of AhulBayt can have this book.

Sister, I did it just then. It is extremely sad indeed. It took me to where Umar wants to burn the house of Ali Ibn Abu Talib (as). No wonder the Shia strongly dislike them.... Yet he is help in such a high position by the Sunnis even after what he has done :(

Also in the book Al Muraja'at the Shia scholar is replying letters to a Sunni and he explains to him Aysha's view about Ali. And I was so shocked about how 'the mother of believers' could have such hatred for the brother of Rasulallah (pbuh) in a narration people describe aisha as relieved and happy when she heard of the death of Imam Ali (as) :( 

I find it so dumb how Sunnis think anyone who saw or walked passed Muhammad (pbuh) is under the category of Sahaba and they are all good pious people.... When they need to look at history and see the wives of some previous prophets were not good people either... And they can't believe that some of his 'friends' turned out to be bad people after his death, when prophet Josephs (as) own flesh and blood tried to kill him..  If your brothers could do such a thing why is it so hard to believe that some of the companions turned out bad when Muhammad (pbuh) left the earth?

it goes to show how important and correct the famous saying of Imam Ali: "A friend cannot be considered a friend unless he is tested on three occasions: in time of need, behind your back and after your death."

Looking at the pdf the brother linked to, here's an example why some scholars have said the book is a forgery. Quoting from part of a longer narration, this is supposed to be Muhammad b. Abi Bakr describing the scene at his father's death:

When I was left alone with him I told him: “O father, say LA ILAHA

ILLALLAH.” He said: “I will never say that nor do I have power to say it

until I go to Hell and am made to enter the coffin.” When I remembered the

coffin, I thought he was delirious, so I asked him “Which coffin?” He

replied: “The coffin of fire which is locked by Fire in which there will be

twelve people. Myself and my this companion.” I asked “Umar?” He said:

“Yes, who else do I mean? And ten will be in the Well of Hell on which there

will be a stone. When Allah wills that the Fire of Hell flares up, the stone

will be lifted.” I asked him: “Are you delirious?” He said: “By God, I am not

delirious. May Allah curse ibn Sahhak (Umar). He is the one who stopped

me from the dhikr when I had understood it. He is a very bad companion.

May Allah curse him. Put my cheeks on the earth.” I made his cheeks touch the earth.

He continuously prayed for his doom and destruction until I closed

his eyes.

Then Umar came to me when I had already closed his eyes so he asked:

“Did he say anything after I went away?” I told him what he said. Umar

said: “May Allah have mercy on the caliph of the Messenger of Allah. Keep

it confidential because this is crazy and you are of that family in which to be

delirious in illness is well known.” Ayeshah said: “You have said truth.”

Everyone told me: “No one from your people should hear anything of this

otherwise ibn Abi Talib and his Ahlulbayt will belittle you.”

The thing is, Muhammad b. Abi Bakr (ra) was born in the year of the Farewell Hajj of the Prophet Õáì Çááå Úáíå æÂáå, which means he'd have been around 2 years old here.. Does the above sound at all like it's describing a 2 year old?

Now, now... there's no need to give just one side of the argument.

From the book on the tragedy of Sayyida Fatima (a) by Murtada Amili:

Shaikh al-Islam, `allama al-Majlisi, may Allah have mercy on him, the researcher-scholar and the genius renown man that he was, said the following:

“This narrative is one of the reasons for assaulting SALIM’s book because Muhammed (ibn Abu Bakr) was born during the year of Hijjatul-Wada’ (the Farewell Pilgrimage), as is well documented. So, his age at the time of his father’s death was two years and a few months. How could he, then, speak such words, and how could he remember such tales?! This may be the insertion of copyists or narrators. Or it may be said that this is one of the miracles of the Commander of the Faithful (A.S.) which he manifested to others. Some men of virtue have said that `Abdullah ibn `Omer admonished his father at the time of the latter’s death. The truth is that such an accusation cannot be directed at a book so well known to the traditionists, one upon which men in the caliber of al-Kulayni and al-Saduq and other ancient scholars reliable. Most of its contents are in agreement with what is narrated through authentic isnad in major reliable references. It is seldom that we find a book dealing with usaland which is free from such stuff.”

Added to what `allama al-Majlisi states are the following points:

1. Shaikh Muhammed Baqir al-Zanjani has said, “Al-Saffar, al-Saduq, Shaikh al-Mufid, Ibrahim ibn Muhammed al-Thaqafi before them narrated the exact tradition ver batim through isnad to SALIM but through venues other than his book.”

2. Segments of this tradition are narrated in other books such asTaqrab al-Ma`arif by the respected Faqih Shaikh Abul-Sal ah, Al-amali by the latter’s professor, Shaikh al-Mufid, in Al-K afiya fa Ibtal Tawbat al-Khati’a, also by al-Mufid, in Madanat al-Ma`ajiz by the revered `allama Sayyid Hashim al-Bahrani who quotes Ibn `Abbas and Ka`b al-Ahbar.

The issue of Muhammed ibn Abu Bakr talking to his father at the time of his death is mentioned by the authority al-Tabari in his book titled Kamil Baha’i and by al-Ghazali in Sirr al-`alaman and by Ibn al-Jawzi in his Tathkirat al-Khawass.

3. Remains to indicate is that what is stated about how old Muhammed ibn Abu Bakr was at that time is not the final argument here, for some have stated that he was about five years old when his father died, if he was born in 8 A.H. or four if he was born during Hijjatul-Wada`, 9 A.H., for that child could have been a genius.

`Allama al-Majlisi thinks that it could have been a miracle which Allah, Praise to Him, bestowed upon the Commander of the Faithful, peace be upon him.

Best not to be too black or white about these sorts of things. Try to learn something from the book while retaining some healthy skepticism and being realistic that parts may have been fabricated or added to over time. But enjoy nevertheless in the reasonable belief that some significant part of it is probably authentic and very old.

Having one or two doubtful hadith does not discredit the whole book. This is why we have Quran, logic, ilm Hadith and rijal and so on to verify Hadith.

Read Hadith with a grain of salt and once want to apply in your belief or practices, get them verified by top ulema who have knowledge of Hadith. Just do not make your faith or practice decisions based on one or two hadiths that you read. We do not have comprehensive knowledge of these things. Do not be like our Sunni brothers who read just one ayat of Quran (and ignore other ayaat of Quran) and start rejecting intercessions, start eating haram meat, and start washing their feet in wudhu, and so on. Basically their "partial knowledge of Quran and Hadith" make them follow ibless as oppose to "what Allah wants".
