Asak everyone,

I feel very shameful in writing the following but am feeling helpless and need help.

I am a practising shiite muslim but during teenage i caught a bad habit of watching pornographic things on internet. This has become an addiction now...I have tried a lot to stop this bad act. I have tried following things like:

1.) Regular praying to Allah

2.) Keeping Fast

3.) Keeping away from internet as much as possible. ( i cant completely stop as there are few things for which internet is must also my job involves use of internet)

4.) stopped looking at normal movies /drama/music anything

5.) Namaz-e-shab

6.) Astaghfar

7.) being in the state of wadoo

8.) lowering my gaze

however i am able to keep away from this shameful act for few days and then fall back into it again.

No matter how much i vow not to repeat it when excited i dont seem to take heed to those vows. After doing this act i masturbate which is again haraam. I feel very ashamed after this and for next few timings i dont pray thinking with what face will i stand in salaat in front of god...last time i made a vow and did astaghfar and i have repeated the mistake again !!

I cry for some time eventually i regroup my senses and make a vow not to do it again. this has become an endless cycle.....

Its like this either i am very spiritual doing Dhikr/fasting/ praying/ and reading religious literature and when i fall, i fall to very lows watching such bad stuff which is destroying my spiritual self........i am on either extreme....i am leding a double life...

This turmoil within is effecting everything ...professional and personal life....besides i start hating myself so much that i feel suicidal....

My profile is i am unmarried working professional of 26 yrs age. i have done thorough research on net about this type of addiction. Its a chemical imbalance and this addiction has been compared to cocaine addiction. the same chemicals get released and the craving is of same intensity. Marriage is often not the solution. besides this would be like cheating my to be spouse. If i am unable to control my addiction even after marriage i have spoiled her life as well. i feel like any other disease first i should cure myself and then marry.

Does anyone reading this on the forum has any suggestions as to how can i overcome this problem. anyone who has successfully won over his "self" ....any special dua or act.........Thanking you in advance..

you know, Like you said, masturbating is an addictive act and you cant put addiction aside all of a sudden. I think you should try and stop the thing step by step but be careful never to go back to the last step. Pressuring yourself too much might make you too tired and stressful and you might suddenly decide to leave the whole towba plan once and forever.

Like said, i would try to do tawba step by step so your body can get used to getting over the "excitement" without masturbating.

Inshallah khayr and inshallah what i said helps. :)

Let me just tell you something...

You can have all the golden advice you could ever want thrown at you, but it is literally impossible to stop when you have no willpower to stop, especially when you've done it for such a long period of time. All the advice in your head becomes theoretical, not practical, because you just can't get yourself to implement it.

Dude, you've been having this problem since your TEENS and you think coming on this forum will suddenly eliminate this addiction once and for all? You have a high sexual drive, nothing to be ashamed of, so you need to channel this powerful yearning and desire through...:

Short Period of Mut'ah. There's no choice. Unless you're man enough for commitment to permanent marriage or find the willpower to stop, Mut'ah seems like the only logical option to me.

mutah could be a helpful option for him, but be careful around here :o before the ones who think mutah is still haram come and attack you...

Wa Salaam

It certainly helped me to stop visiting pornographic sites when I realised that I was actually contributing to the sex industry just by visiting them. Each visit is often noted as a "hit" and is monitored by advertisers and promoters to decide whether to pay a particular site to display their merchandise. If you then think that your visit might be helping to keep a Cambodian or Thai youngster in captivity, that should inshallah be enough to stop you from visiting them.

Jazak Allah

Make a commitment to stop. Go cold turkey. Might sound hard, blunt and simple but it works.

If you make a firm commitment to something and really want to stop, then you will succeed.

Just stop. When the opportunity comes to engage in such acts, say no.

If you live alone, do this in addition to above advices

1. Make a vow to Allah that you will not watch porn again and if you did, you will do fasting for 60 days straight. Make it a vow and stick to it.

2. Buy a big poster size art paper and write this vow on it underneath a big title saying "NO TO PORN". Put other bad things about porn if there is a space left on the poster. Stick it in front of your personal PC/Laptop in a prominent place.

3. No matter what your parents say (stupid cultural parents will find one reason or the other to not get you married), get married, do permanent nikah and enjoy your life rather than living in the he'll of loneliness.

Rizq is in Allah's hand. Search a good spouse and marry. The only practicable solution. Taqwa and Piety can stop you from doing but it needs very strong will power and determination but we are surrounded by sinful environment of cable, net, mobiles etc and it becomes difficult to control one's carnal desires.

well it will be a little hard, i haven't read all the replies but well suggest some sorry if it is repeated, there are certain things you need to do to purify your heart.

1- try to attend as much as possible the congregational prayers ( specially don't miss the Friday pryers), and concenterate on your namaz beside wajibat try to do as much as possible the mustahabat.

2- cut tv off for 1 month and see how it goes with your self ( instead you can watch some islamic vedios).

3- don't go through facebooks(shiatanbook) and others filthy online communication websites.

4- reduce your contacts with your friends from the opposite sex with whom you don't have and family relationship ( don't do sms).

5- manage your toughts , pick up a islamic book and read it and keep your self busy with it ( i suggest yusuf al- qarzawee books if you find in english).

6- do lot's of azkar during the day and after your prayers ( when you stop remembering Allah(s.w.t) then shiatan will come to you ...and will overcome your toughts).

7- don't listen to music, it is destroying the soul.(No1 thing which move human towards fasha , i am sure you are listening too much through out the day).

8- try to increase you contact with your friends and visit your relatives , do regular exercise , probably most of these dirty toughs come when you are alone and under depression.

9- read atleast 50 ayat of qurhan every day recommended in the morning (do read tafsir al-mizan and ponder on it's tafsir if you could find time it is available online).

10- give zakat and khairat as much as you can , helping others through financially or other mean will help you purify your soul.

11 - the last but not least you need to find how shiatan is deceiving you( probably mostly through eyes, listening or other thing).

hope you will find these things helpful, these points help me a lot.

regards,

Salams,

The solution is twofold. If you fail to do either one, you will fail in the long run.

1) TaqwaAllah

2) Marriage

1) There is no word in English for TaqwaAllah and it is a concept. You may have heard it explained in the wrong way so I will try to explain it. The best way that I have heard it explained is that it is a realization that Allah(s.w.a) is watching and aware of your actions.

How do you know if you have it or not ? That is important to know because it says that the mutaqin (the ones who have taqwa) are the ones who will succeed in this life and the next and will be in paradise. So this is the best way it was explained to me. If you have the ability and the desire to disobey Allah(s.w.a) and the realization that Allah(s.w.a) is aware of your actions keeps you from doing the act of disobedience, then you have taqwa. If this realization falls short of stopping you from committing the act of disobedience, then you don't have it.

Taqwa doesn't happen overnight and it is something we must work at. Noone is born with it and it is not inherited from parents and it is not particular to a certain nation or tribe. It takes hard work to acquire and to perfect it to a level where it consistently stops you from committing sins sometimes takes years or decades. The ones who had the highest level of taqwa were the Prophet(p.b.u.h) and the Imams of Ahl Al Bayt(a.s). They did not commit any sins not because there was something special in their DNA sequence or they were something more than human beings, it was because they had a very strong realization of the presence of Allah(s.w.a) and the consequences of sin. They saw disobedience for what it was and if anyone saw the reality of disobedience to Allah(s.w.a) they would never ever disobey him. The problem is that most of us only have a very vague notion or none at all of the consequences or potential consequence of disobedience to Allah(s.w.a).

Here is an exercise for you. Next time you want to look at porn, think about this. The Infinite Creator of the entire universe is watching you as you are watching those scenes. His attention is not distracted and he knows what you are seeing as well as what you are thinking while you are watching it. He(s.w.a) can wipe you out of existence with one word. You already know that he has commanded you not to do this ('Tell the believing men to cast down their glance...', Holy Quran) and you are doing it. In addition, according to the ahadith of Imam Sadiq(a.s), he has bragged about you in front of the angels because you have prayed and because you said Duaa in the past. Do you really want to dissapoint your Creator and risk making Him(s.w.a) angry with you ? In addition, it is possible that the Imams of Ahl Al Bayt and Fatima Zahra(a.s) is observing your actions. Aren't you shy in front of them ? Also, death is not far off. It could come to you while your are in the midst of this sinful act. Then what will you say to the angels when the question you in the grave ? Will you realize this or will you keep fooling yourself into believing that noone is watching you.

Also, ,maybe Allah(s.w.a) is placing you in this situation in order to give you an opportunity to repent and build your taqwa. Think of this as an opportunity rather than a failure.

2) You should get married as soon as possible. Don't let anyone tell you that you should work on yourself first. Working on yourself is a continuous project and it doesn't stop after marriage. Marriage will help you overcome this problem, believe me, by giving you a halal outlet for your desires. The fact that you are having this problem means that it is already past time for you. You are 26 ? You probably became mature, Islamically, more than a decade ago. The desires you have are legitimate and were placed there by Allah(s.w.a) in order to push you to get married and fulfill the other part of your religion. I wish you success.

Also, like was said before, none of the advice will change your life for the better unless YOU implement it. We can't do that for you.

all the advice above is great and you should pick and choose what suits you best

my personal advice is this

stay off the net, pronto, your 26, you remember life BI (before internet) and ill bet you both my legs you were not flogging as much !!! go for a walk, go to the gym, do boxing, skydiving whatever, just keep yourself occupied, and when you get home to go to bed, sleep, make sure your dead tired and sleep...

Marriage helps obviously, but in this day and age, its not as easy to get married !!! Mut3a is another fix, but how many girls you going to find to do mut3a with you ? not only that, its still not helping you, because its temporary, so you need will power

one more thing, ill leave you with this

Would you watch porn with Rasul Allah a.s sitting next to you ? (stugferallah)

What about Nabi Isa, or Musa, or Yacoub !!! even better would you admit it to Fatima al Zahra ?

Just man up bro, thats the only advice i can give you, yeah it feels great, most guys wont say other wise, but then it becomes a disease, and its very hard to stop ! You lose the pleasure and you fill up with guilt, you become slack, your sleeping habits bang out, you miss prayer, and you become depressed !!!!

Besides most pornos, are just dirty mutts lol, you dont want a girl like that, not even for 1 day, believe you me you dont !!!

I think its about respecting women aswell, because then you objectify them, as sex tools, and that only, and marriage becomes not something about companionship, bondship and struggle, but sex and thats it !

Why do you think people cheat on each other all the time ?

gotta control your desires bro, if you were a teen, i would let it slide, its a new world, its all a learning curve, but your not a kid no more bro, you need to man up plain n simple

doing 7000 rik3at, or reading 300 ayats a day, wont help you bro, you need to look yourself in the mirror and tell yourself, your a sleezy cat, who thinks with his man part, and thats it !!!! Because at the end of the day, thats what you become, its what helped me stop !!!

Your worth more then that bro, and your not that weak !!! just man up and give it up

my 2 cents

That was what rid me of porn, for good. Even though I'm not married, and haven't done mutah, now just the thought of porn makes me want to vomit. Now even if I force myself to watch porn I feel disgusted by it.

(1) porn is almost 100% owned by jewish billionaires to keep the "goyim" trapped mentally.

(2) all the time you are looking at it, you are looking at another mans penis. this increases the chance of you becoming gay

(3) cant put this delicately, but its all basically the same things just with different people. doesnt that get boring?

(4) you become desensitised to normal sex with your loving wife (which is beautiful) so you need more and more stimulation to become aroused. pretty soon you wont be able to get hard unless you are imagining midget japanese necrophiliac gay horse porn.

(5) many porn sites contain malware which infects your computer, and can lead to stealing of your personal data, viruses and people monitoring your internet use,as well as bombarding you with adult site pop ups. which may be hard to explain when you are showing your mum your homework.

why do you link the prayer with your masturbation? just do ghusl , say astaghfirulah and don't miss prayers,

as many people said get married, one wife, two wives up to four

your 26 and you were ready for marriage at 13 or 14 which means its been 10 years your late ,,, I dont blame you but that is the actual problem

Every time you do it you are reinforcing the addiction. If you stimulate yourself with images it will increase your desire to masturbate, so that is the first thing you have to completely cut out. You need to deal with the testosterone so you dont go crazy, so if you are wanting to put marriage on hold before you feel able to control these things (which is honourable of you, well done) you should research activities that help regulate testosterone. If you do feel it is a genuine addiction there may be services in your area that might be able to help you.

Salamalaikum brother. All the suggestions above are great.

1.Write the names of Allah, and the 14 Masoomeen in beautiful calligraphy in all parts of your house. The great barakat of these names itself and when you see these Holy Names you will feel ashamed to do anything sinful.create wallpapers of the Holy names on your desktop.

2Recite the Quran regularly

3.Keep a few copies of the Holy Quran in different rooms, the sight of the Holy Quran will remind you Allah is wathcing you.

4.Remember the famous words of Imam Mehdi a.s." where he says, we see the actions of our shias and we remember them"

5.Muharram is arriving soon, when the tragedy of Kerbala is being recited and your heart is wrenched with grief, at that time PRAY,PRAY to Allah to cure u of this malady, I will guarnatee you , you will be cured.

all the above advices are excellent

you have got many so i will only say that dont spend much time in the bedroom and the bathroom

and its very difficult to get a girl for mutah today and you are right that 1 st you should cure your disease and then marry or else you will make the worst and biggest mistake of your life.

in the end all it depends on your will power and Allah s.w.t

try to make some efforts surely the almighty will help you out

Marriage is the only thing that will help. Your 26, you should be married by now. And the gay thing is true, your masturbating with another males penis on the screen. Think about that. That alone will make you want to stop kus what if Allah curses you not for just masturbation but being around with another male's being on the same screen? And going to the gym is the next best thing. And over masturbation damages your penis. So if i were you, id go to the gym and start looking for a wife. While your in the gym youll get a better body too thats two pluses in one shot.

I can assure you that marrying will help , it helped me stay away from such related things entirely .

and when you say : Marriage is often not the solution. besides this would be like cheating my to be spouse. If i am unable to control my addiction even after marriage i have spoiled her life as well. i feel like any other disease first i should cure myself and then marry.

Let me inform you that once you are married , and once you make love with your wife , the resultant act will reduce the levels of dopamine in your brain ( the hormone for excitement and enthusiasm ) and will significantly increase the level of serotonin ( the brain hormone which is for calmness and ( well it calms the mind and you think clearly ) .

Thus you wont have the desire anymore .

besides that going to the gym also performs this function in your brain .

and the suggestions mentioned above from all these people are awesome to say the least .

also remember : Think of what the Prophet (a.s) said:

من أحب أن يلقي الله طاهرا مطهرا فليلقه متزوجا.

"Whoever disires to meet Allah in a pure condition must marry (take a spouse).

And regarding cheating the spouse , it is irrelevant .Once you are married , i feel is doubtful you will ever again go to that sin again.

I cannot begin to understand how people consider marriage to be a cure for anything except loneliness and that would be temporary if there is no love. I cannot speak from experience but it is my understanding that people into porn are not satisfied with the activities of a "normal" sexual relationship. I use the word "normal" to avoid being graphic but what I mean is life can't be a porn show all the time. The women in those movies are acting it is their job and it is fake.

2.) Keeping Fast

Brother, this is something many teenagers go through, so nothing special about it. In your case it seems Marriage is compulsory, after a few months of married life, things will change for the better Inshallah. doas are ok, but you must take practical steps also. So don't go on blaming yourself, it is biologically natural to be attracted to the other sex. Get married as soon as possible, and get all these guilty feelings behind you; you have a life to lead, and there are more important things ahead, and more serious challenges and responsibilities to face, before you finally kick the bucket.

Ali

"In your case it seems Marriage is compulsory"

Of course you are absolutely correct my brother. After a few months his life will change greatly. He will have no time to watch porn any longer and his life will take another direction but.

After 6 or 7 months what will he have:

1. A wife he has grown tired of because he married her to cure himself of a porn addiction. The lust has worn off and he finds there is nothing else left. Let's hope there is no child.

2. He has a mound of bills because he finds 2 cannot live as cheaply as one.

3. He has a job he may not want but had to take to pay for a place for he and his spouse to live in.

Now what is our friend doing besides maybe feeling guilty for the position he has put a young lady into? He is looking for an escape and the sexual excitement he does not have at home, what does he do he returns to the disease he did not treat properly but with a band aid that has fallen off.

I am gonna try to keep this as G-rated as possible. But can someone please explain the logic behind "seeing another mans privates will make you gay"?

Please explain the logic behind this.

Good luck!

This is not a joke. My friend and I ( my friend is a medical doctor ) thought about offering a Mutah service for brothers in this situatiom We would put ads on Craigslist then the girls would come to the office and sign a contract that states that they are either muslim Christian or Jewish and they are not a virgin and they haven't had sexual relations with anyone since their last three monthly cycles. Then test them for pregnancy and stds and do the Mutah contract for the br after maher was agreed on and the time period. We came to the conclusion that it would probably work and be popular amoung the brothers and that both of us would be assasinated within a few months...either by our own wives or by some other ' concerned' community members

Yeah you just opened pandoras box for all of the annoying little teenage boys running around this site with wild fantasies of multiple one hour mutahs daily. This thread will be out of control soon.
