Because it signifies when Prophet Ibrahim went to sacrifice his son Ismail as a test from Allah swt, and because he passed the test - Allah gave him a lamb instead to sacrifice. It is now a continued ritual to sacrifice the lambs/other animals not only because of this reason, but also to give out to those who need it the most. It also commemorates the patience and submission that Prophet Abraham (as) delivered to Allah, hoping that we, during the celebration of this Eid, can act in the very same way in terms of these attributes.

99. He said: "I will go to my Lord! He will surely guide me

100. "O my Lord! Grant me a righteous (son)!"

101. So We gave him the good news of a forbearing son.

102. Then, when (the son) reached (the age of) (serious) work with him, he said: "O my son! I have seen in a vision that I offer thee in sacrifice: now see what is thy view!" (The son) said: "O my father! Do as thou art commanded: thou will find me, if Allah so wills, one of the steadfast!"

103. So when they had both submitted (to Allah), and he had laid him prostrate on his forehead (for sacrifice),

104. We called out to him "O Abraham! ...

105. "Thou hast already fulfilled the vision!" - thus indeed do We reward those who do right.

(Surah 37)

^Its a sunnat-e-ibrahimi, a tradition from Ibrahim (as) and one of the acts of the hajj pilgrimage, also a tradition from Ibrahim (as). In the Surah Hajj its says

[Shakir 22:34] And to every nation We appointed acts of devotion that they may mention the name of Allah on what He has given them of the cattle quadrupeds; so your god is One God, therefore to Him should you submit, and give good news to the humble,

[Shakir 22:35] (To) those whose hearts tremble when Allah is mentioned, and those who are patient under that which afflicts them, and those who keep up prayer, and spend (benevolently) out of what We have given them.

[Shakir 22:36] And (as for) the camels, We have made them of the signs of the religion of Allah for you; for you therein is much good; therefore mention the name of Allah on them as they stand in a row, then when they fall down eat of them and feed the poor man who is contented and the beggar; thus have We made them subservient to you, that you may be grateful.

[Shakir 22:37] There does not reach Allah their flesh nor their blood, but to Him is acceptable the guarding (against evil) on your part; thus has He made them subservient to you, that you may magnify Allah because He has guided you aright; and give good news to those who do good (to others).

Ok, so its not particularly for the sake of pleasing Allah. But rather for the people and as a tradition in Islam.

Why do muslims sacrifice animals during eid el adha?

Is there anyone specific who like started this tradition?

Why is it mus-tahab?

Is there any hadith or quotations on it by imam Ali a.s. ?

in the times of the old testament Jews used to sacrifice animals to cover their sins but it is not necessary any more since Jesus Christ came t2000 years ago and was killed for your and my sins and the sins of the whole world. He paid for you. he saved you. He redeemed you.

Jesus has already forgiven you. You ARE forgiven. All your sins already ARE forgiven! Salvation is a free gift. All this is thanks to Jesus Christ who came to the earth to die for you. He suffered so that you dont have to suffer. He came to die. He came to heal you. He came to save and redeem you. In Jesus you have salvation. In Jesus you have freedom. Jesus is LOVE. When you accept His salvation and believe in Him and in what He did for you then you will be with Him for ever in heaven.

isnt that amazing what He did? just accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior and receieve His salvation AS A FREE GIFT ;-)

and your life will change for ever! only in Jesus you can have sureness of salvation

you can please God the most when you respect what He did for you. He sent His own Son to the Cross so that you could be free from sin and its consequences.

There is no justice in sending your own son to get killed by some Romans. Nope
