Well, I recently atteneded a lecture on Umar(It's part of my course in school.. Yawn sunni history). Umar's rule was quite effective, He conquered the Persians, conquered Jerausalem etc. People were pleased with him as He allowed the conquered people to practice their religion/culture freely, even the ruler was allowed to rule over his people. Only Umar's deputy remained in the city to overlook it's position, not as a ruler but as a guide simply. In My Opinion, Umar wasn't really an Islamic ruler. He's a worldy ruler. Umar was infact quite a brilliant diplomat too.

I can't really say the same for Abu Bakr, All he did was sit and murder people during the Ridha wars. Khalid Bin Walid defeated Musailma not him

That's more or less the way I feel about Umar too. Good politician, but not a very good Muslim. Kinda someone who more often than not only followed the rules of Islam when they benefited him personally.

Whom were famous enemies of Islam defeated by Salman Farsi? If you can't think of any, does it diminish Salman Farsi hero status in anyway?

Actually for me Salman Farsi (ra) defeated a whole Army when he (ra) told to the Prophet (s.w.s) and muslims to dig the hole around Medina...

You got a point. ;)

Salman Farsi is considered Ahlul Bayt too.

Let's just forget Umar is even a Muslim for one minute, Look at him as a Worldy ruler. He was really effective, Usman messed up his system though by appointing his own family members and removing people from high ranking posts etc. If He would've died during Umar's reign than things would've gone so much smoother for Imam Ali(a.s) imo.

Still no Sunni that wants to leave a comment? :shifty:

Seriously, what is your problem?

Prophet (pbuh) said; "Don't call him Salman al-Farsi, Call him Salman al-Mohammadi :D

Hehe lol abu bakr and umar.

I read the joke of the day now.

If it was the name of imam ali a.s instead of this 2 I am sure we would be getting a long list of the enemies of islam which was defeated by maula ali a.s.

And as people mentioned that umar was a good politician

On this I will like to say that its a natural thing if u want some pose u have to make people happy without the public support you can't have your position

And he did all thing just for the caliphate.
