Wow two maraje' mashAllah.. May Allah bless them with long life and perfect health. Thanks for posting.

Many ppl have similar experience with marajae', out of taqwa and humbleness they never allow anyone to kiss their hands. I love them because they are the most embodied in following the true sunnah of Prophet (pbuh) from among the ulama today.

alhamdulillah, he looks in really good health, much better than sayed al-Hakeem and sheikh Fayyad, why are there all these rumours flying around that sayed sistani is going to pass away before the others? He could well outlive them, see how straight his back still is, its a good sign.

About the hand thing, it is haram, no two ways about it, so its great to see the sayed behave in this way, masha Allah

And said (Imam al Redha) (as): "The man should not kiss the man's hand, for indeed (when he) kissed his hand (it is) as if he prayed to him."

He let us kiss his hand when we met him last year, so I think he was just doing it out of humility in this video.

Most videos I've seen of Marjas show their hand being kissed.

If it was haraam then I'm sure NONE would allow it to be done to them as they are extremely pious.

Notice how they kiss his hand, then start upping it by doing like a sajda on it?

This doesn't bother you at all?

I don't see sajdah :donno: I only see people

- kissing his hand

- putting their forehead on the back of his palm and

- putting their cheeks on his hand

I don't think it is meant to be like a sajda at all; it's really a cultural thing. Especially if you see individuals from the subcontinent kissing the turbah after salah and then sort of sliding their forehead on the turbah.

Regardless, I think anyone will find it really hard to believe that people in the video do sajda on Khomeini's hand, even people who others think glorify him too much.

personally i havnt ever researched to if it is allowed or not, but according to iyt sistani, if it is not out lust, it is permissable, and i dont think in any of these it is -.-

Question :

Can a man kiss another man?

Answer :

If it is not out of lust, there would be no objection in it.

i will try and find out the sources and hadith etc etc on this but as i follow taqleed of sistani, i have no objection to it

I didn't mean they are literally intending to do sajda to him, but essentially they are imitating the same act they would as they do in sajida after salat. The forehead is the place of sajda, so why do that to his hand? But I noticed folks doing all sorts of strange things like this. Like when (I think it was) Jawadi Amoli came to lead salat at the school I was at, the students were mobbing him afterwards, such as taking his cloak and rubbing their face in it. Note, he didn't seem at all comfortable to me with the mobbing. But it got me thinking, if they will do such things to a regular scholar, how in the world would they conduct themselves in front of the Ma`sumeen?!

Before we derail too much, will say I loved that snippet of the OP's video with the Sayyid withdrawing his hand like that.

Its a cultural things.....one should not read too much into such gestures..... just different ways to show respect or affection.

some shake hands, some kiss hands, some kiss the forehead, some kiss on both cheeks (as we see many arabs do) and in some cultures people touch feet of the other person.

brother think about what you just said for a minute, 'he's going it out of humility in this video'? Humility when the camera is on him is nothing to be proud off, in fact its a pretty big insult. More likely the hadith about hand kissing is weak, as such, it can't be said that it is haram, so the sayed probably lets the laymen kiss it, if they want to that much. However, he clearly doesn't like it or approve of someone who should know better doing so, look at the force with which he removed his hand.

But in light of the hadith (and the video), if you get the chance to see him again, would you kiss his hand?

Bro, you got me wrong. I'm in no way suggesting he did it for the camera. I'm sure he cares more about Allah's eye watching him than a camera. This man is so pious that when we met him, he refused to hear the voice of a woman and made them write their questions. So I would never insult him.

All I was saying is that he's not withdrawing his hand because it's not permissible to kiss it. This is because he allowed us to kiss his hand last year. Maybe he's withdrawing his hand in this video out of extra humility, regardless of whether the camera is there or not. Like I said, his level of piety that I witnessed suggests he doesn't care about cameras but only cares about God.

I think it's a waste of time .. Shorten the greeting time and celebrate Allah SWT in an infinite amount of ways ( example: praying, talking, eating, relaxing, etc )

wAllahu Aalam.

Salam

I am pretty sure the Syed did this because the other syed didn't greet his guest first.

Notice he was talking with a scholar and the other syed didn't show him attention.

We can all but guess, but it could be many reasons. I thought the alim sitting next to Ay. Seestani is Sheikh Fayyad who is also a marja. It would be an extreme disrecpect if one says salam to one and not to other. Also in Islamic akhlaq, it is to start shaking hands from right to left. Sheikh Fayyad (or the white turban alim) was sitting on the right side of the incoming person, and he just showed respect only to Ay. Seestani, and obviously Ay. Seestani did not appreciate it.
