The morning after pill doesn't cause abortion it prevents ovulation.....that is why it is allowed.

It is not simply to stop to ovulation. It can actually stop the implantation of the zygot from the uterus. And if there is no implantation then there is no life. So technically you are not killing a baby but shedding cells.

Yes....but many people think it still works if you are already pregnant or believe it causes abortion. There was an Evangelical Christian screaming on the radio a while back calling it the abortion pill.

i think its allowed, but it depends on what marja you follow. I wouldnt suggest it though, its has some serious side effects such as blood clots which can lead to deep vein thrombosis. I know someone who got that because of the pill and now she cant have children because of the medication shes on. Better to use a different form of contraception.

Salams,

According to some marjaa (check the one you follow), the traditions state that the soul (nafs or ruh) doesn't enter the body until the zygote implants itself in the wall of the uterus. That happens approx 10 to 14 days after conception. So for a few days after conception, what is inside the mother is not a human being but just a collection of cells so it is permissible to stop the cells from developing into a human life. After the implantation of the zygote (which is possible at ten days, based on what I know ), the zygote is now a human life and abortion is haram.

The Christians Evangelicals are very different. They incorrectly believe that life began at conception or as soon as the sperm enters the ovum.

For us Shias, life actually began when the embryo is implanted on the uterus. I don't remember the high school biology that well but in the initial stage what is happening is that you now have the DNA from both the parents to form a single cell. We do not call this life yet. It will go through a complicated process call cell division. This is not a baby. It is after 7 days that it can travel down the fallopian tube. It takes a few days to attach itself completely in the womb. As soon as it gets stuck to the uterus wall then it get nourishment and only then it can sustain the life.

The Sunnis are absolutely wrong when they allow abortion below 4 months. This is out-right murder. The baby's first heartbeat is around week 5. Heartbeat is one of the most visible sign of life.

Good info on the topic

http://www.enotes.co...tal-development

The egg is fertilized in the ovum and after fertilization takes two to five days to travel from the ovum, down the fallopian tube to the uterus

When it is in the uterus, it takes some time for it to implant itself into the uterine wall and begin receiving nutrients from the mother.

When the implantation is complete, it is now a human life and abortion is haram.

Since there is variation in the time window for the process of implantation to happen, in order to stay on the safe side,

the pill RU-486, should be taken within 1 to 2 days after intercourse. That way, there is no chance the pregnancy has

moved from the Pre-Zygotic stage (before implantation) to the Zygotic State (after implantation).

Also, definitely, a sister should check the website or contact the office of her marjaa beforehand.

I only know the fatwa regarding this from my marjaa (Sayyid Fadlallah(r.a)), and I know that there

are some others who allow it also, but I haven't checked their fatawa.

If some other br or sis have links to fatawa from other marjaa regarding this issue, please post links here.
