Salamalaikum, Ya Ali a.s. madad!

So say if your praying and your parents dont know that. When they call you, are you obliged to break your prayers to respond to them or are we meant to carry on praying?

Thanks.

From what I know, you only break your prayer if your MOTHER calls you. And this rule only applies to MUSTAHAB prayers, NOT WAJIB prayers. I heard this in a majlis couple weeks ago.

wa alaykom salam

Any mustahab or not obligatory prayer you may stop for whatever reason.

if the question is in the context of obligatory prayers, is there any for you to tell your parents that when you do not answer according to what is usual for you that this means you are praying and you will be with them as soon as you finish the rest of the salat your praying?

Take the example of Imam Ali (A.S) he did not break his prayer even after seeing a glint of the poisoned dagger, so how can we break the prayer if one of our parents have called. It is logic, if one have not answered to their parent's call there must be something important which the person must be involved with.

Breaking wajib prayers for no reason is obviously not allowed.

But like I mentioned earlier, I was in a lecture about 2 weeks ago and the topic of the lecture was the station of the mother.

The molana said that if you are in the middle of mustahab prayers ONLY, if your mother calls you, you should break your prayers. He said even if you were in the middle of long mustahab prayers such as Salaatul Layl or Salaatul Jaffar Tayyar, you still should break it.

He said lots of scholars have fatwas of this rule. I'm sure if we asked a more learned person, they would bring the appropriate references.

EDIT

Found something:

The Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his progeny said, "If you are performing recommended prayers and your father calls for you, do not break your prayers. But if your mother calls you, do break your prayers".
