Alhamdulilah akhi. That is a very amazing and inspiring story. You talking about how you got your first Qur'an, reminds me of when I got mine. I knew where the mosque was, and I had been there once but never got a Qu'ran. So the imam emailed me and told me that next time I go, to go to the bookshelf and I would find a black one that I could take. So my mum was looking at an apartment across the street, and she told me to meet her there. So before I went to the apartment, I sneaked over to the mosque to grab the Qur'an and put it in my backpack. lol

I really enjoyed reading your story :) Insh'Allah I'll post mine on here sometime . . .

Salaam Brothers/Sisters

If you have any comments or wish to ask me anything regarding my journey to Islam I would love to hear them :)

Salaam

Bismehe Ta3ala,

Assalam Alikum Brother Ali,

Thank you for sharing your story. Insh'Allah you will share it one day with your children. Amazing really, how you wanted to find the truth and Allah swt helped you. Allah swt continue to guide you and show you to the straight path.

My question is how did you decide between shia Islam and sunni?

Salaam alaykum.

Well, first I didn't really choose as the brother I mentioned in the story was actually a Shia. Back then, I didn't know there was such a difference between Shia Islam and Sunni Islam.

So technically I was a Shia but somehow I found myself trying to 'expose' or disprove everything the Shia believe in. I would try and find things to use against the Shia and I would show my friend and tell him about it but every time I tried he had a response or an answer.

Eventually I decided to continue studying the two School's and determine for myself which one was more correct. I eventually concluded after much research, that the school of Ahlul Bayt (as) was far superior to the Sunni School of Islam.

Now here I am :P

a very thouching story.

i was just wondering what were the things that made you shia? i mean when most christians do reasearch about islam, most of it is based on sunni beleifs since the majority of muslims are sunni. did you research into different sects as well or was shiaism the first thing you looked at?

Your story was really good.

Wow, this Najib guy seems amazing, May Allah reward him for his effort :)

And congratulations to you OP, you took an amazing step forward.

Seems like you always wanted God in your life even when you were not religious at all. That is very fascinating to me.

It is strange when I read if people haven't met a Shia Muslim yet, maybe go Melbourne or Sydney? I am sure there would be lots of Shia Masjids etc as those are big cities.

May Allah bless you for your reversion :)

Yeajh, Alhamdulilah Allah gave me a friend like him. We still talk almost every weekend, he is like the older Brother I never had.

Yeah, to this day I still havn't meany Shi'as, well technically I know two as there are 3 reverts at my Mosque, me, my friend from School and another Brother. All three of us are Shia lol but everyone else is Sunni. There is another Brother who reverted to Islam exactly a week ago, masha'Allah but he is Sunni I am presuming. Anyway, the other revert he has went to a Mosque in Sydney, or Campbeltown actually and he said he really liked it there.

Yeah, there are plenty in Melbourne and Sydney, I plan to visit some soon insha'Allah.

Thanks for your kind words,

Salaam alaykum.

Salaam alaykum,

Hey lol, sorry it took me a while to respond. I kinda forgot :P

When I first discovered Islam I had very, very little knowledge about the different groups/sects. The main reason why I originally was a Shia was because Brother Najib is a Shi'a so when he made me videos explaining how to pray and do wudhu it was according to Jaffari School of thought. After a while he started explaining how there are two main paths a Muslim can take (Shia and Sunni) and he said he is on this path and he believes 100% this is the right path but I have to make that decision myself and not just take his word for it.

So yeah, basically that was the reason why I was Shi'a but overtime I felt this thing inside me. It was really weird, I was always trying to find faults within Shi'a Islam and do my best to find excuses as to why I didn't have to be Shi'a as all my brothers were Sunni, there was not one Shia at my Mosque. But now there are 3 Shi'a at my Mosque including myself lol all 3 reverts to Islam are Shi'a :P But, I didn't want to make myself look or feel any different, I just wanted to fit in as best I could and if I was a Shi'a then it would make me different in a way.

Anyway, safe to say if I didn't meet Najib I probably would never be Shi'a and I would of went to my Mosque and been a Sunni. He taught me everything in Shi'a Islam and would give me resources and what not to further my studies on Islam.

But at one stage there was a period were I was 'Sunni' you could say, that's when I was finding faults in Shi'a Islam but everytime I would tell my friend about it, Najib would always have a response.

There are many things that 'made me Shia'. It never really made sense to me that our Prophet (pbuh) would leave this world without leaving someone behind to look after his community, especially when we see Prophets in the Qur'an ask Allah to appoint for them someone (Musa ('a) asking for Harun ('a) & Zakariah ('a) asking for an heir which he found in Yahya ('a) as well as Sulayman ('a) inheriting from Dawood ('a) ) I couldn't accept that the most important of Messengers would leave his community without appointing someone to lead after his death. No president or prime minister could or would do such a thing, it was illogical to me the the Greatest of Creation would.

Other things I saw in Sunni Islam which just didn't make any sense, the fact that they wash their feet when the Qur'an clearly says "Wipe" & some Hadiths in their collection of Sahih, which are obvious fabrications.

But yeah, that sums it up I think :P if u have any more questions don't hesitate to ask :)
