not sure about outside their houses, but the women of the household all observed the hijab/ niqaab

Basically Fink I think what he left out is that since the women of the household observed hijab that muslim woman should also observe it.

Hey thanks guys. To be honest with you, my question isn't to see whether hijab is required or not. But to get an idea of the role an Islamic govt plays in people's lives.

This is an interesting problem.

If it is not enforced, then should any level of decency be enforced?

If not, should people be able to walk in bikinis or naked in the street?

If there should be a level of decency, what is the level of decency required by Quran and Sunnah to be enforced?

If there is no guidance on that matter, then doesn't give validity to human judgement in laws that have to do with morality as well?

Thank you mac. for the input

This is obviously a complex issue dealing with man's liberty and govt's role in guiding moral standards. The question of where is the red line drawn?

I find it hard to strike a balance between the Quran's constant reminder that prophets and messengers are primarily warners, and with the Idea of an Islamic state that enforces a certain code of conduct. I really hope we can get some more details not only on this subject but the overall relationship between govt and people based on Islamic teachings.

Case study: A modern man recieves pornography to his home thru sat dish. The man is single and has no family living with him. Does govt (including Islamic) have the right to prohibit him from doing so? Would it be more appropriate for govt to play a consultative role?

A woman without hijab in an islamic society, is being promiscuous, and openly sinning and thus hijab is enforced. A man watching porn at home, cannot be proved, until witnesses are present, who probably will be spying on him (which itself is a big sin). The Gov't has to stop this sin from happening. Remember the Imams (as) wont consult with you regarding not wearing hijab or watching porn, they will act to remove that sin from society. This goes for most laws in islam.

And yes the Imams (as) and Prophet did and would enforce Hijab.

The Prophet and Imams did enforce Hijab? Can you give some examples?
