An Iranian lawmaker says new documents provided by the family of Shia cleric Imam Moussa Sadr, who went missing in Libya, show that he still alive.

Mohammad Karamirad added on Sunday that a delegation representing the Lebanese Amal Movement, headed by Khalil Hamdan, had been invited to Iran by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Meanwhile, another Iranian lawmaker said the Article 90 Committee of the Iranian Majlis (parliament) has discussed the case of Moussa Sadr in its latest session.

Lawmaker Seyyed Fazel Mousavi, told the official Majlis news agency, ICANA, on Sunday that the Lebanese delegates had also attended the session and that both sides had agreed to form a joint committee to investigate the fate of Moussa Sadr more seriously.

Member of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Javad Karimi Qoddousi announced Majlis plans to send a delegation to Libya to investigate the fate of Sadr.

“We need to contact Libyan revolutionaries who have been witness to the martyrdom or the presence of Imam Moussa Sadr in Libya,” the Iranian lawmaker said last Thursday.

Qoddousi added that following the 'fall' of the fugitive Libyan ruler Muammar Gaddafi, Majlis is stepping up diplomatic efforts to clarify the fate of Imam Moussa.

“The investigation will be carried out in cooperation with the Lebanese Hezbollah and the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq, both of which are important in determining the fate of Imam Moussa Sadr,” he went on to say.

Sadr, the founder of Lebanon's Amal Movement, was a popular and highly revered Lebanese Shia cleric of Iranian descent, who disappeared on August 31, 1978 while visiting Libya.

Sadr was scheduled to meet with officials from the government of Gaddafi along with two of his companions, Mohammed Yaqoub and Abbas Badreddin. It is widely believed in Lebanon that the Shia cleric was kidnapped on the orders of senior Libyan officials.

In 2008, Beirut issued an arrest warrant for Gaddafi over Sadr's disappearance.

He's definitely dead he's been either tortured the whole time and then killed or got killed right away. Plus if he is still alive he would be about 85 years old which would make it very unlikely for him to remain alive

When Mokhtar can escape the prison of Ibne Ziyad alive then Imam Musa Sadr can also be alive...Lets hope from Allah, He is best Protector...

Yeah imagine the boost of faith and morale that would give people.

I fail to see the conclusive evidence you have to bring to show he's "definitely" dead. This is just your assumption. And many, many people live past 85.

Inshallah we pray he is still alive.

Inshallah

i remember Sayed Hassan saying in 2003 or 2007 i cant remember which year, but i remember watching on tv in lebanon during the anniversary of his birthday, that there was some info and he might very well still be alive, but they didnt want to say it until it was confirmed 110%

I really do hope he is alive, Inshallah ya Rab, it will once and for all unite ALL the shia in lebanon !!!!

InShahAllah he is still alive. I have been following this story closely over the past month or so and my conclusion is that obviously the Iranians have some information that they are not sharing with the public. That is a good thing at this point, because if all of us knew what they know, then the wahabis, zionisits, imperialists who are his enemies would also know it.

Also, my grandfather is 91. He still rides his bike to the beach and back everyday. So the objection based on age is not logical.

At this point, it is useless to speculate what they know or don't know. All we can do is pray and ask Allah(s.w.a) to bring this great man and scholar back to us so that we can benefit from his knowledge and leadership, Ya Rub!!.

Lebanese Politician: Kidnapped Shiite Cleric Still Alive in Libya

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Iran-born Lebanese Shiite cleric and leader, Imam Musa al-Sadr, is alive and in the prisons of former Libyan dictator Muammar al-Qaddafi, a Lebanese politician said.

"We have been in contact with Libyan opposition and revolutionaries during recent years, and they emphasized that Imam Musa Sadr is alive… but believed he has been frequently transferred to different prisons in Libya," member of the Lebanese Amal Movement Khalil Hamdan said on Wednesday.

He stressed the significance of following up Sadr's case "with patience and precision," and stated, "Based on the latest information, we believe that he is definitely alive".

The top Amal official expressed hope that the cleric would be released in the near future thanks to further efforts by Iranian and Lebanese officials and his family, MNA reported.

Earlier, the Iranian parliament had also said that it planned to dispatch a team to Libya to probe into the fate of Sadr.

Al-Sadr an Iranian-born Lebanese philosopher spent many years of his life in Lebanon as a religious and political leader, before he went missing during a trip to Libya at the invitation of Muammar al-Qaddafi.

In August 1978, al-Sadr departed for Libya with two companions to meet officials of Libyan leader Muammar al-Qaddafi's government. They were never heard from again, and many believe they met with foul play at the hands of Qaddafi.

Former Libyan regime consistently denied responsibility, claiming that al-Sadr and his companions left Libya for Italy in 1978. However, others claim that al-Sadr is still alive and is being held in a secret jail in Libya.

Rome has persistently said that Sadr never arrived in Italy on the alleged flight.

Alright everybody. This is the latest news, 25 june 2012

The committee in Lebanon officially tasked with investigating the fate of Imam Musa Sadr denied that the body recently found in Libya belongs to Sadr.

According to a report carried by Al-Intiqad Daily, the committee issued a statement on Saturday, June 23, rejecting the recent remarks by head of Libya’s National Transitional Council Mustafa Abdul Jalil.

Abdul Jalil earlier this week said that Imam Musa Sadr’s body and remnants of his clothes have been found in Libya.

“We have discovered a mass grave and believe Imam Musa Sadr’s body might be among the bodies found there,” he said.

The committee said while it believes Sadr is alive, at the request of the Libyan side, it took part in carrying out DNA tests to determine whether the claim that the body belongs to Sadr is correct.

According to the committee, the outcome of the tests proved to contradict the claim.

Imam Musa Sadr and his two companions Sheikh Muhammad Yaqub and Abbas Badreddin disappeared in Libya in 1978 during a visit to the country. There have been a lot of efforts to determine their fate in the past three decades, efforts that have intensified since the fall of the former Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi.
