Salam alaykom!

I wonder if a person who is 110% that he would not drink is allowed to be with friends who drink?

Wassalam

WA wr wb,

Let's, for the sake of discussion, say that you are allowed to be around 'friends' while they drink. Why would you want to? By doing this, you are sort of giving them your implied consent that it is okay and your support their choices, hence being their friend. I would rather choose others whom I'd consider friends. Likewise, I would hate to be around pot smokers.

If the ability to reason is affected, you don't get the utmost potential out of them. We need to surround ourselves with sharp people in order to continuously ascend. Or would you rather sit with 'sheep'? No need to inhibit your own growth! You're setting up your own handicap. If you make it clear that you will only be with them when they are of sound reasoning, they may come to respect, cherish your time, and take you more seriously.

Im no scholar or anything....but Im guessing no. Most things arent allowed in Islam. So if in doubt just dont do it!

This statement is false. Let's take alcoholic drinks as an example. First of all, alcohol isn't in most drinks. So even if you attempted to say that most drinks are NOT allowed, you'd be mistaking.

It´s my classmates. If that makes a difference in the topic....

It´s just for the gathering the class, and come closer to each other.

I'm assuming it's outside of class, since I don't think they'd be drinking in school. Will your teacher be there? If so, maybe discuss with your teacher and tell 'em that you want it where you can participate as well (in a normal setting where all of the brain cells will have an equal opportunity).

yes, it´s outside school, so it´s like a "klassfest" as we call it in sweden, a (classparty), I would like to be there to just hang out. This sounds like I'm somehow trying to get permission, but it's not like that. I'm just saying that I'm not actually doing anything wrong...?

Just be careful. It's sort of stated that when the angles bring la`anah upon the drinkers, it may encompass you, even if you aren't drinking, if you are with them. I'd assume this means if you are close enough to be considered as being with them. Even still, personally, I don't like going anywhere if drinks will be in the same room that I am in.

I trust you will make the right choice, insha`Allah.

I think I'm gonna go for your advice. It sounds very wise to do so. Thanks

Definitely agree with you there.

Actually quite the opposite, the vast majority of things are allowed in Islam. There are only a small amount of issues that are forbidden.

Well, no. It doesn't make a difference to anything. Alcohol is haram to drink, be around, socialise around etc. You can't be sitting at the same table as one of your 'friends' is while they are sipping away. You are degrading yourself as a Muslim just by doing so, because you know very well yourself that it's forbidden, but are attempting to reassure yourself with excuses. It's not about whether or not it's going to tempt you, it's about doing the right thing for yourself and your spiritual wellbeing. Inshaa'Allah you make the right choice :)
