salaams brothers im living in australia melbourne i come from a turkish sunni muslim backround and the girl ive been seeing for the past two years is a shia lebanese muslim and this is what im confused about when my girlfriend told her parents about me ofcause they wanted to meet me etc when they found out i was a sunni her dad wont let me get engaged with her daughter unless i convert to a shia :S.. is this normal????

Their is no difference between Christians & Shias.Christians worship Jesus [ Hazrat Essa (A.S)] and ask help from him, similarly Shia worship Hazrat Ali (R.A) and their Imams.They ask help from their Imams instead of Allah.Accoridng to Shia belief their Imams have same attributes as Allah :S

You believe in Allah and Hazrat Mohammad (S.A.W) but at the same time you also believe that Hazrat Al (R.A) has same attributes as Allah and he is present everywhere like Allah and is ready to help you when ever you call him."Ya Ali Madad", "Mola-e-Kainat Ali" & "Ali Moula" are examples of your Kufria beliefs.You also consider Hazrat Ali superior of all Prophets including last prophet Hazart Mohammad صلي الله عليه و سلم

So even if you belive in Allah and Hazrat Mohammad (S.A.W) , you are out of Islam , because you do shirk as you make Hazrat Ali as a partner of Allah.

Lool , May Allah bless you for making me smile. Since 1400 years, muslims were debating our marriage of your second Caliph and from now own there will be a new topic to add, his highness the Ottomon's engagement with A shia sister. What a joke. This is related to fiqah not to Shia Sunni debate.

First of all his highness as you are the true muslim, can you name that relationship which you had since last 2 years with this sister of yours!!? It does not sound good from very pious personality who cares so much about Islam and is worried about his engagement, and is going place to place, forum to forum , announcing the very first post over this issue and speak also of " I have been seeing" wow.

Ask for fatwa to repent if you think that you were committing any sin by your respected shunni alim. Please beware! some might order you stone to death :) ...

Answer if not you but any other person ever comes to this situation, for a sunni man there are few proper ways to tackle this situation;

1- Become shia , believe me you will never end up as companion of Hell by following Allah through Muhammad s.a.w and his progeny p.b.u.t.

2- If you really love the shia female, then respect her family values , repent for the sin, which you had been in and get married to some Indonesian muslim shunni sister of yours. Indonesia is most populated muslim country, if you are having problems here and there, try there.

3- If girl become sunnis then there is big disadvantage in that relationship. You will become very harsh on her, always doubt her. The fact if she can sell her faith for a man then she can be sell her so many things just like this will never left you live in peace and psychologically you will suffer from Major Depressive disorder for the rest of your life. So avoid this one.

I say option first is good. Just try it.

I don't know her family or how traditional they are....but they don't have to be very traditional. Just the fact that they are Lebanese they will make her life a living h3ll until she leaves him and she is probably being showered with different choices to marry as it is right now.

It is normal bro, even vice versa.. Think about it her father doesn't want you imposing your views on her, pretty simple right? So why aren't we muslims? Because of Imamate?

Do your research, calling a shi'a a kafir is pretty off track, especially when your asking for help. I suggest you first understand our Aqeeda to familiarise yourself with us 'non-muslims' and then you can sort out your marriage, inshaAllah.

Imam Ali (as) is an imam, not a Prophet (as) and he is not superior to Rasul (pbuh). Don't insult us, you cannot compare anything to Allah سبحانه وتعالى, seriously do some research first before you start quoting from our books even, our books aren't 100% authentic are they? Only the Qu'ran is, open your eyes and you will see. May Allah (swt) guide you.

This is usual Sunni approach. They have no knowledge whatsoever about the Shia Islam but they always come forward claiming to be most knowledgable of the subject.

Coming to the topic. This is advice of the most of the scholars that a Shia Muslimah or Muslim can marry a Sunni Muslim or Muslimah provided there is no apprehension of misguidance. If there is apprehension of misguidance then a Shia Muslim/Muslimah should not marry a Sunni Muslim/Muslimah. In the present case, this fatwa is fully applicable as the op of this thread has shown that he has no understanding of Shia Islam and there is every apprehension of misguidance for the Shia sister.
