In the wake of Iran's firm operations against the Party for Free Life of Kurdistan (PJAK), Iran's Intelligence Minister Heidar Moslehi says the terrorist group is close to being eliminated.

“With regard to the fine measure taken by the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), the PJAK terrorist cell will definitely move towards disintegration and deterioration,” Moslehi told reporters on Wednesday.

He added that the Islamic Republic has thwarted many plots that the terrorist group intended to carry out inside the country, IRIB reported.

The PJAK's conditions are such that we feel it is on the verge of collapse, the Iranian minister said.

Members of the PJAK terrorist group -- an offshoot of the Kurdistan Workers' Party -- regularly engage in armed clashes with Iranian security forces along the country's western borders with Iraq's semi-autonomous Kurdistan region.

PJAK launches its attacks from Iraq's Qandil Mountains in the areas under the control of Kurdistan Regional Government.

On July 17, the IRGC disbanded a terrorist cell linked to the PJAK, killing at least five members of the group.

During another operation on July 25, IRGC forces killed 35 members of the terrorist group, and captured some of the PJAK members.

IRGC has recently deployed 5,000 military forces in the northwest of the country along its common border with the Iraqi Kurdistan region.
