A salafi says:-

The Shia narrations prove without the shadow of a doubt that the infallible Shia Imams are a source of misguidance to their own followers before anyone else, let's see why with our own eyes from al-Kafi.

Ahmad ibn Idris from Muhamad ibn 'Abdul-Jabbar from al-Hassan ibn 'Ali from Tha'alabah ibn Maymoun from Zurarah ibn A'ayun that he said: I asked Imam al-Baqir (as) a question so the Imam gave me the answer then another man came and asked the same question so the Imam gave him a different answer, then another one came and asked about it so the Imam gave him a completely different answer than both of us. when both men left I asked the Imam: "O son of Rassul Allah, two men from 'Iraq and from your Shia came to ask you but you gave each of them different answers." He replied: "O Zurarah, this is good for us so that we may remain safer because if you all agree on this then the people will believe in it and they would be guided to us but we will not remain for long."

Later I said to his son al-Sadiq (as): "Your Shia always walk away from you with different opinions and answers" so he gave me the same reply as his father.

'Ali ibn Ibrahim from his father from ibn abi Najran from 'Assim bin Humayd from Mansour ibn Hazim who said: I said to al-Sadiq (as): "What is the matter with you, I ask a question and you give me an answer then another man comes and asks it so you give him a completely different one?" The Imam replied: "we answer people in matters of addition and deletion." I said to him: "Then tell me about the companions of Rassul-Allah SAWS do they narrate truthful narrations or do they lie?" the Imam said: "They are truthful" I asked: "Why did they differ?" he replied: "Do you not know that a man used to come to Rassul-Allah SAWS and ask a question then he answers him but later he would answer to the same question differently because the Ahadith they abrogate each other."

How can we explain these hadiths?

(bismillah)

the answer is too easy...

The First Narration shows how Ahlul Bayt (a.s) were intelligent in their plans...

The problem which may we ask ourselves, is:

why Imam replied to a question differently to different people?

Note: replying differently does not mean that the answers be opposite.!

To answer this question we need to read other Hadiths about the responsibility of Ahlul bayt in responding...

As our Holy prophet (as) said and also Imam Sadiq (a.s) says here, they say :"We talk to people as their wisdom."

this is the first reason, maybe the first guy who asked the question, could not understand as much as the second guy asked Imam...it's clear...like a teacher, who explains a problem to those who understand more...

there are many other explanations, I would explain if needed...

wassalam

Much of the hadiths we have were issued under taqiyya. The first hadith is demonstrating the wisdom of that. If the Shi`a all agreed on everything, they would have been easy to spot by the oppressive governments and been even more persecuted (as well as it being possibly led back to the Imam (as) eventually). If you read the hadith literature you will find much that is like this, X amount of hadiths that say one thing while you have these others that say something seemingly different, with the explanation being those other ones were issued under taqiyya. This is possibly one reason for using the criteria of opposing the `Aamma in determining which of two different hadiths to go with (after all, the taqiyya position would most likely be in agreement with what the `Aamma said, with the one that is different possibly reflecting the real answer). That said, some scholars have been of the view that determining which is which is not something we can know with certainty, thus as a grace we the Shi`a have been permitted to act on any of them and our responsibility (to obey the Imam) would still be taken care of.
