In a word: yes. Materialism can't hold a candle to irreducible subjectivity and absolute-ness of Consciousness. As much as sophists may contend to the contrary...

Materialism isnt as popular as it used to be. Philosophers, many of them atheists, have realised that it has too many problems. In this book many of these philosophers (inc atheists) explain what these problems are. Inshallah I'll eventually get round to reading it...

On the american version of that site someone wrote: "Materialism is a metaphysical position, not an empirical deduction". What an excellent phrase to use against the proponents of scientism.
