TEHRAN - Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi has advised the Syrian government to respond to public demands and welcomed Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s promises for reform.

“If the majority of people in Syria have legitimate demands, it is the duty of the Bashar al-Assad government to respond to those demands as it has done so (thus far) and has fulfilled its promises to improve the situation,” Salehi told reporters in Tehran on Tuesday.

He added that the Syrian government has even promised to take more steps to satisfy the demands of the people.

However, a differentiation should be made between popular uprisings and the movements that are being made in certain countries, such as Syria, with the aim of exploiting the situation unfolding in the Arab world, Salehi stated.

He also said that the Islamic Republic of Iran has adopted a clear stance toward the developments playing out in the region.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Salehi said that Tehran is conferring with like-minded countries to achieve a solution to the crisis in Libya and a number of proposals have been made.

“We are working on the proposals, and if we obtain our expected results God willing, we will announce them,” he stated.

“We are seeking to help realize public demands in Libya and defuse the situation in the country,” Salehi added.

Asked if Tehran intends to recognize the Libyan opposition national council, Salehi stated, “The issue in question is not the intention to recognize revolutionaries or not to recognize,” but Iran’s principled policy is that the legitimate demands of the people, no matter where they live, should be responded to in an appropriate way.

He went on to say that NATO forces are furnishing the opposition with weapons, which is in contravention of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1973.

The NATO forces are “seeking to exacerbate the situation in this country,” he noted

What strikes me as being funny about this is how very similar Iran's response has been to that of the US. Both have made political points when governments they dislike start cracking down but waffle off with vague statements about how some non-specific reforms sometime in the not too distant future would be nice, if you don't mind, when talking to their allies doing very similar things. Interest trumps ideology I guess.

I would say there is clear evidence of imperialist US funding of the armed gangs in Syria, even Wikileaks revealed this. This is very similar to the documented reality of the imperialist Amerikkkan regime sending in millions of dollars in cash along with covert saboteurs to try to enact a CIA orchestrated "color revolution" against Iran back in 2009.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/middleeast/iran/2218623/George-W-Bush-raised-400-million-for-action-against-Iran.html George W Bush 'raised $400 million for action against Iran'

The White House has been reported to have secretly stepped up covert operations inside Iran with the aim of destablising its leadership.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/1552784/Bush-sanctions-black-ops-against-Iran.html Bush sanctions 'black ops' against Iran President George W Bush has given the CIA approval to launch covert "black" operations to achieve regime change in Iran, intelligence sources have revealed.

and Wikileaks on the imperialist Amerikkkan attempt CIA orchestrated "color revolution" coup against the Resistance supporting nation of Syria, that fights the evil colonialist Zionist "Israeli" Khazars:

I don't think you'll find any similar level of "mainstream" press sources backing up the silly, pathetic, false claims of the Al-Khalifa monarchy of Bahrain that "Hezbollah" was allegedly "arming the Bahraini protesters"! Everyone could see that the majority of Bahrain's population (under 1 million people) turned out in the Shi'a Muslim majority led demonstrations (against the Al-Khalifa monarchy which is a "Sunni" monarchy that only came to the island of Bahrain about 200 years ago from the Najd region of Arabia where the Wahhabi Saudi monarchy is also originally from)! The Al-Khalifa monarchy doesn't even really have any "Bahraini" military personnel, as the vast majority of Bahrain's population (70% plus) are the Bahraini Shi'a Muslim majority who are the indigenous people of the island and not allowed to serve in the military or government at all: because of this the Al-Khalifa monarchy can only bring in foreign "Sunni" mercenaries from nations like Yemen, Pakistan, etc. and grant them immediate alleged "Bahraini citizenship" to use them against the indigenous Bahraini Shi'a Muslim majority of the island of Bahrain. This is unlike Syria, where the Syrian military is majority Syrian Sunni Muslim (as the majority of the Syrian population is Syrian Sunni Muslims). So this destroys the pathetic claim of those asserting that the Alawis of Syria allegedly "discriminate" against non-Alawis; as all Syrian males (regardless of background or religion) are required to serve in the military (i.e. they have to complete required military service). I wouldn't be surprised if a disproportionate amount of the elite special forces of the Syrian military come from the Alawi community of Syria (who have always lived in Syria by the way and are not late comers to the land like the "Sunni" Al-Khalifa monarchy that just came to the island of Bahrain from Najd region of Arabia about 200 years ago with the support of the colonialist British Empire). But this is no more shocking then say the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia having most of their elite special forces (of the Saudi military) coming from one or two specific tribes of the Arabian peninsula who are seen as most historically loyal to the Saudi royal family/monarchy.

In Syria, President Bashar al-Assad is extremely popular and still enjoys high levels of support (regardless of what Western propaganda media owned by Zionist Jews likes to claim about small Ikhwan disturbances in cities like say Hama).

Ikhwan ("Muslim Brotherhood") rebels, Ikhwan was founded by colonialist British intelligence back in the day and today still loyal to the US CIA and British MI6.

Armed Western backed "Muslim Brotherhood" saboteur rebels in Syria, trying to carry out their mission of a CIA orchestrated "color revolution" coup d'etat against a strong, anti-imperialist nation of Syria and its popular current government.

Yeah that's why they were sucking on their thumbs while Gaza was being bombarded.

How much the Syrian people love the Assad dynasty -
