A butterfly gently unfurls its wings…

The glory leaves you breathless, but only for a moment

Snap!

Package it, label it, post it online!

An innocent child, squinting in amazement at a crawling bug

That’s so cute you gush, as you reach for your phone

And

Snap!

Upload and tag it, be right on time!

A drunkard man, being a fool

Such a waste of intellect and you shake your head

Gently though

So your video isn’t grainy

Myspace and youtube, all in real time!

A radiant bride has made her grand entrance

Entranced by her beauty, everyone stand

Simultaneously reaching for their purses

Click!

Before I send her a prayer

The moment is mine!

A lush green forest, in the background a smoky blue mountain

You want to exclaim

SubhanAllah!

But the moment is lost

Click!

Ah well, I have it in bytes!

A learned man, has come from afar

Every word he speaks is a pearl

I must catch my camel

I can hardly wait to leave

And go share online!

At the sacred ground, I am brought to tears

Am I really beholding the Ka’abah in my eyes?

Ring!

Shush! I’ll call you after tawaaf!

Labbayk…

Click! Hey I got a close up

…Allahumma Labbayk!

Another wonderful piece. I too hate modernity. I live under a mountain (what we call a mountain...). It is forest - all green all year except when snow falls. Right at the pinnacle, at it's greatest height, at it's highest extremity - a telecom tower. As well - it is carved up as private property; they even threw up gates. You need permission to go up there. Perhaps a sequel about distance ownership by a rich few who live in cities hundreds of miles away from the properties they own and none can walk on?

awesome.

yes, that last one, it's surreal isn't it.

how about the kodak moments etched in ones memory, that last forever, can one learn to capture them in real-time, and store them away?

btw, when reading "~Alamulhudaa~" at first, thought it was alhamdulillah misspelled lolol was trying to read it, and was like wtflip ... ohhh

Hmm.. that sounds like an interesting challenge. lol, i write most of my poetry while commuting. As it so happens, I pass a lot of such areas as I commute, and have thought a lot about that, only never in poetry. If any of my bus rides turns out such a piece, you will definitely get to see it :D

You know.. about 40-50 years ago, when one would read the predictions about a time when music would be played in the 7aram, they would have thought:  woah that's taking things really far. Now in the middle of tawaf you could hear junk like ajraam or bob marley blaring :( In the masajid, a khutba is going on and you hear someone busy texting, or jumping to look through their text messages RIGHT after salah, or somebody in i'tikaf updating their facebook status every 5 mins: "wow, what an amazingly peaceful feeling im having" "i wish i could stay forever in i'tikaf"

As for kodak moments captured in one's heart.. I think they are best stored there, somehow reducing some 'moments' or 'feelings' to material form reduces their sanctity and perfect beauty. For example, one can read many descriptions of one's first sight of the Kaabah, and how it would bring one to tears, and just reading it can bring you to tears, that is how well it was captured. No description however can match up to actually experiencing such a moment...

Alamulhuda:  mama mia, my spelling isn't thaat bad (not always anyway :shifty: ) One day I was going through a photo album and a conversation was going on in the background which I wasn't paying attention to, then I came across Emam's (qas) photo and out of the background conversation i heard the word 'alamulhuda'. I don't know what/who they were talking about, but it fit perfectly with the picture. lol.

Thank you. Unhappily - I must defer reading it. I shall need to take some sleep within the next few hours and will not likely have an opportunity to read it again until Friday. I am too tired this moment to read it properly. A poem for me even.

Now that I know - a little time will make it better. I shall wait.

Listen to me! You are wearing down my solid, imperturbable Roman exterior. I had better do some thing decisively un-poetic before sleeping.
