Salamun 'alaykum w/r w/b:

So here is the scene:

I have a Christian roomate.

He used a wooden spoon to stir a pasta meat sauce which contained ground beef which was non-halal (non zebiha meat).

He put the wooden spoon into the dishwasher. It comes out clean and dry and he puts it back into the kitchen drawer.

Next day I use that wooden spoon to stir some rice bioling in a pot.

I eat that rice.

Question: Have I just eaten something that has been contaminated buy a najis utensil? i.e I know that when something is Najis buy, I believe pork or non halal meat, or a dog licked it, then you need to wash with at least, kalil water seven times.

Is the dishwasher a sufficient form of cleansing that the utensil doesn't need to be washed seven times once it has been washed by a dishwasher?

Also, is there a difference if a utensil is contaminated with non-halal vs specifically pork? Or is that not an issue?

Please reply with sources from Ayatollah Sistani (my Marja).

Shukran

I think the dishwasher is sufficient because a washing machine for clothes is normally sufficient. They are both connected to the same water source, so by that logic it should be ok. Just to make sure, ask the office yourself:

http://www.najaf.org...hp?l=ENG&to=ASK

They reply within a day i.e. if you send it now, you'll get a reply tomorrow.

For the other part of the question, non-halal meal and pork are the same thing - they are both najis.

Also, washing 7 times doesn't seem to be correct, once is sufficient:

Question: If a dog licks my body or clothes, how should I purify it?

Answer: It is sufficient to wash it once. However, if the water is little, it is necessary to rid it of the water by wringing.

So here is the situation:

1) I have a Christian roomate.

2) He used a wooden spoon to stir a pasta meat sauce which contained ground

beef which was non-halal (non zebiha meat).

3) He put the wooden spoon into the dishwasher. It comes out clean and dry

and he puts it back into the kitchen drawer.

4) Next day I use that wooden spoon to stir some rice boiling in a pot.

5) I eat that rice.

Question: Have I just eaten something that has been contaminated buy a najis

utensil? i.e I know that when something is Najis, I believe pork or non

halal meat, or a dog licked it, then you need to wash with at least, kalil

Imam Ali Foundation:

Utensils and cups that have become impure because of najis meat should be

washed three times if purified with little water. If they are purified with

pure water connected to a kurr source, even then it should be washed three

times, as a matter of obligatory precaution.

I hate to be obstinate but I am still unclear.

If it is not a utensil, then was the dishwasher sufficient. I.e. was the wooden spoon used for cooking okay to be used?

Shukran.

Yes, it is as long as the najasat is removed and the water reaches all the najis area
