i have been asking everyone about this, have done research about it and i have not come up with a straight answer. even the marjah's answer to that question is a bit ambiguous. so the question is,

what islamic songs and music are haram and which are permitted?

for example, songs like this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdJjYn74FNU

other songs by

- sami yusuf

- iman group

- noor group

- seven8six

i know people have asked these questions before, but i want to be specific about what songs and music i am refering too. i know sayid sistani says that music used for gatherings and parties is haram, but thats still unclear! so please have a listen to these islamic artists and tell me what i should and should not listen to, with proof please!

thank you for your support

Take it this way, if it feels like its music that you would hear in the top 40 chart, then it is haram. I would say Sami Yusuf's music is haram as there is heavy instrumental in them. I prefer islamic songs with no instrumental, and if they do have instrumental, then they shouldnt be an instrumental of the ghina type, ie the top 40 music charts type.

E.g. Halal nasheed:

What I would classify as haram:

Grey areas

Youtube - I have heard from my parents - Ahlulbayt TV

Music is haram. thats what i have been told since childhood

From the little knowledge I have, the only type of music ever played without our aimma objecting was the rythmic beating of drums during war at the battlefield

Although, nowadays there is a lot of confusion with some marja allowing some sort of music; then there is islamic music (what a joke!), and motivational music etc

In the end, i wont be surprised to see islamic beer and some one asking whether it is halal or not

reading the following book might give you more insight: Music and its Effects here

thanks for the link.

lol, there is actually 'islamic beer' that people are indeed questioning whether its halal or not. i think its brewed from wheat or something. but anyway, my friend was telling me how muslims were buying it as a form of halal non alcoholic beer. whatever that is, i mean come on, its beer, its haram, end of story, whether its brewed from apples, grapes or wheat. i dont know, people just like haram stuff.

lol, your comment was met as a joke, little did you know that it was true.

thanks again and salam
